Aug 11 (Reuters) - The former chief executive of theFinancial Times, Rona Fairhead, and the former deputy governorof the Bank of England, Howard Davies, are contesting to beBarclays Plc's next chairman, the Sunday Timesreported, citing sources.
Fairhead, who is a non-executive director at rival bank HSBCHoldings Plc, is among those short-listed for the topposition at Barclays, the Times quoted sources close to the bankas saying. (http://thetim.es/1kUMRWO)
The Times said Davies, who was also the head of theFinancial Services Authority, Britain's former financialregulator, is also believed to be in the running.
John Sunderland, a non-executive director at Barclays, wasin April appointed to lead the search for a potential successorto Chairman David Walker.
Walker, who spearheaded an overhaul of Barclays' managementfollowing the Libor scandal, replaced Marcus Agius as chairmanin 2012 and was expected to serve for a maximum of three years.
While a handful of other names were still in contention, afinal decision was not expected until Christmas, the Times said.
