EXECUTIVE CHANGES: GSK adds scientific heft to board ahead of demerger

(Alliance News) - The following is a round-up of London-listed company director and manager changes announced on Wednesday and not separately reported by Alliance News:

GlaxoSmithKline PLC - West London-based pharmaceutical firm - Hires Hal Dietz as non-executive director, starting January 1. Dietz is professor of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. GSK said Dietz will strengthen the scientific capabilities of the board of "new GSK" ahead of the demerger of its Consumer Healthcare business in mid-2022. Dietz will be the third scientific and medical expert on the board, alongside Jesse Goodman, former chief scientist at US regulator the Food & Drug Administration and Laurie Glimcher, chief executive officer of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. GSK on Wednesday reported pretax profit of GBP1.75 billion in the third quarter of 2021, up 4.8% from GBP1.67 billion a year ago. Revenue increased by 5.0% to GBP9.08 billion from GBP8.65 billion last year.

Allergy Therapeutics PLC - Worthing, Sussex-based pharmaceutical firm focused on allergy vaccines - Hires Cheryl MacDiarmid as non-executive director, starting Wednesday. MacDiarmid worked at GlaxoSmithKline since 1993. She currently is head of Commercial Strategy for ViiV Healthcare, the HIV joint venture of GSK, Pfizer Inc and Shionogi & Co Ltd. On Monday, Allergy Therapeutics reported positive top-line results from the G309 exploratory field trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Grass MATA MPL, a short-course subcutaneous allergen-specific immunotherapy candidate that aims to address the cause of symptoms of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis due to grass pollen.

Berkeley Group Holdings PLC - Cobham, England-based housebuilder - Executive Director Sean Ellis will step down from the board immediately and leave the company in 12 months time "to pursue other interests". Ellis has been on the Berkeley Group board since 2010.

Polar Capital Global Financials Trust PLC - invests in finance companies for income and capital growth - Hires Cecilia McAnulty as independent non-executive director, starting on Monday next week. McAnulty was a portfolio manager at Centaurus Capital, investing in special situation equities, distressed debt, and high yield bonds. Prior to Centaurus, she was head of Structured Finance for Royal Bank of Scotland, part of what is now called NatWest Group PLC, and a director of principal investing for Barclays Capital, part of Barclays PLC.
