LONDON (Alliance News) - Barclays PLC Tuesday said it has chosen a successor to John Sunderland as Chairman of the board remuneration committee after appointing Crawford Gillies as a non-executive Director.
Gillies, who has been on the boards of Standard Life PLC since 2007, where he has chaired the life insurer's remuneration committee, and of Mitie Group PLC since 2012, will become a member of the Barclays' Remuneration Committee from May 1.
In a statement, Barclays said it is intended that Gillies will succeed Sunderland at a date that is yet to be agreed, consistent with ensuring a smooth transition.
Gillies has over three decades of business and management experience, initially with Bain & Company, a firm of international management consultants, where he was managing director Europe from 2001 to 2005.
While at Bain he worked with major companies in the UK, Continental Europe and North America across multiple sectors. He was Chairman of the law firm Hammonds, now Squire Sanders, between 2006 and 2009, has chaired Control Risks Group Holdings Ltd since 2007 and chaired medical device company Touch Bionics between 2006 and 2011.
He has also held public sector posts in England and Scotland. He was an independent member of the Department of Trade & Industry from 2002 until 2007, chairing its Audit & Risk Committee from 2003 to 2007. He is currently Chairman of Scottish Enterprise and he is a former Chairman of the Confederation of British Industry in London.
"I am delighted that Crawford has agreed to join the Barclays board. He brings immense experience in a range of different industries, including the financial services sector, in addition to a background in strategy and the public sector," Chairman David Walker said in a statement.
Barclays shares were Tuesday quoted at 236.75 pence, down 0.2%.
