LONDON, April 11 (Reuters) - Barclays has hired Rafael Abati from UBS as one of two senior bankers to lead its energy transition investment banking business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Barclays said in a statement.
Abati, previously head of energy & infrastructure M&A for Europe and head of M&A for Iberia at Credit Suisse before the Swiss bank´s merger with UBS, will co-head the Energy Transition Group business in EMEA alongside Marie Freier.
He will join the British bank in the coming months and will report to Mike Cormier, the global head of the unit, and Tim Main, Head of Investment Banking EMEA, Barclays said.
"Rafael's deal experience in the power and energy sectors complements Marie's expertise in ClimateTech investment banking and sustainability research," Cormier said in a statement.
During his career, Abati has advised on deals such as the acquisition of a stake in Naturgy by Australian investor IFM and the takeover of Solarpack by infrastructure fund EQT. (Reporting by Andres Gonzalez; editing by Jason Neely)
