Applied Graphene Materials Gets Good Polyurethane Test Results

Fri, 17th Apr 2015 06:58

LONDON (Alliance News) - Applied Graphene Materials PLC on Friday said it has received positive preliminary results from independent performance testing conducted on graphene-reinforced polyurethane coatings using graphene it produced.

The initial results demonstrate low loading levels of its graphene nanoplatelets substantially enhance the scratch resistance and ultimate tensile strength of a polyurethane clearcoat with minimal damage to transparency or colour.

Polyurethane coatings are used in a wide range of industries including automotive, aircraft and general industrial coatings.

The results open up a route for Applied Graphene to further development of commercial applications in high-performance paints and coatings, it said.

"We are delighted with the progress that has been achieved. The results confirm our own research findings and indicate that these results can be translated to higher volume applications," said Chief Executive Jon Mabbitt.
