Applied Graphene Buoyed As It Gets First Production Process Patent

Wed, 17th Jun 2015 07:18

LONDON (Alliance News) - Applied Graphene Materials PLC saw its shares rise early Wednesday after it got patent approval from the Japanese Patent Office in respect of its graphene production process.

This approval is the first of the group's patent applications to be granted. It is still pursuing applications relating to the production process in five other geographic territories. The Japan patent covers the proprietary process used by the company for manufacturing graphene nanoplatelets.

"The granting of this first patent for Applied Graphene Materials' graphene production process confirms the proprietary nature of our process. We anticipate that Japan will be an important market for the group," Chief Executive Jon Mabbitt said.

"We are continuing to build on our existing platform of intellectual property and know how, concerning both the production of graphene and formatting graphene dispersions, to provide the greatest enhancements and performance benefits for our partners and customers," he added.

Applied Graphene shares were up 4.4% at 235.00 pence early Wednesday.
