Autotrader & Ebay car scam (Pt.2)

Friday, 12th September 2008 10:04 - by Resident IFA

Wow! I am amazed by the response to my last-but-one Blog. Thank you. If you haven’t already, please read it. You will see five comments posted at the bottom, mostly grateful for the near-misses they have just had with the fraudsters. Little did I know when I wrote the Blog, it was practically a public service piece. To put it bluntly, I am chuffed it had this effect and use. I didn’t realise this was so wide-spread. It almost seems an epidemic. A colleague of mine passed on the link to the members of a networking group he attends. Quite a few of them came back with similar tales of woe and near-misses, one even recently being involved in this scam in reverse. He had a car up for sale, a fraudster offering to deposit funds to be released when the car arrived. Will these people ever stop? As always with this kind of thing, I think the more it can be publicised, the better. The scammers are always thinking of the next fraud to perpetrate, always trying to be a step ahead. I guess sitting on a sofa eating Pot Noodle and playing PlayStation/watching Jeremy Kyle gives you ample time to think! There is a clear vote here for people power. I am just old enough to recall Robert Lindsay as ‘Wolfie’ Smith, shouting ‘Power to the people’…how true. Spread the word. Feel free to send this link or, perhaps more importantly, the link to my previous 'Autotrader car scam' Blog to as many people as you can. This way, the so-and-so’s might meet their match, or at least be less effective and possibly be forced to earn a proper living like the rest of us! I have no intention of being the next Martin Lewis (I have more personality for a start!), but this has awoken an interest in me. If you know of any other frauds or scams, please make me aware of them by posting a brief description in the ‘Comments’ box below (Please do not post your telephone number). Until next time…
