IT's all too easy to say this or that share is crap
Quite often it's not the share that you're holding that's the problem, it just that you maybe holding them at the wrong time
that's the way it is as another poster put it, we need a good period of growth and even a dose of steroids for some to make them the way they're meant to be, and what we was hoping for
let's hope we don't have to wait too long to get some good growth years back
Does anybody have access to Stockopdia and know what Vod's rating is?
Fleccy, vod has so many promising business prospects going for it and personally really happy that, for now, MSMs and general market is incapable of appreciating the huge potential in the coming years. It's a bit like EVs 10 years ago. German car makers scuffed at the thought of an EV future. Look at them now. Tesla can't even see them in its rear view mirror. Same will happen here. On the market side of the equation, tesla is massively overvalued, but thats a separate discussion😃
Imo three particular application areas that will differentiate vod from the rest in the coming years, and as a result, the businesses service revenue is likely to get to parity if not higher than the consumer side of the business. These are:
1- IoT https://www.iotworldtoday.com/connectivity/vodafone-hints-at-iot-spinoff#
2- M-Pesa https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/financial-services/our-insights/driven-by-purpose-15-years-of-m-pesas-evolution
3- A.I. and Automation https://telecoms.com/516280/vodafone-and-googles-new-mega-ai-is-the-best-of-big-tech-and-telco-collaboration/
We live in an ever changing world where tech is evolving at an alarming rate, but that only creates new opportunities. If companies dont adapt and embrace change and new technology they will become obsolete and bankrupt faster today than a couple of decades ago.
I also see a potential tie-up between vod and Starlink in Africa.
Another important event, on the horizon, is the hoped for Vodafone UK/Three merger. Under normal circumstances there's no way I could see the CMA authorising this deal, but I'm not entirely sure whether behind the scene's talks have already taken place with the regulators. From Vodafone's point of view, it appears £4.3 billion of Group debt will be transferred into the new combined company, with Three UK adding a further £1.7 billion in debt through refinancing. The new company, MergeCo, will have total debt of £6 Billion and distribute its annual cashflow to its shareholders.
https://investors.vodafone.com/sites/vodafone-ir/files/2023-06/merger-of-vodafone-uk-and-three-uk-13-june-2023-vodafone.pdf
It's likely Vodafone will eventually take full control of the new company, at some point post the three year lock up period. I also suspect/speculate Vodafone will become an Altnet consolidator at some point, probably integrating them into the ex C&WW core network assets as they're acquired. Of course this is all extremely speculative and dependent on the Altnet's falling on hard times, but there's a possibility the UK will eventually have three main Telecom providers, BT, Vodafone and VMO2.
Can I have 74.5p for next week please.
It would be very easy for the ceo to stop or seriously reduce capex for 12 months on top of the staff cuts to present a good set off numbers to increase mcap imo.
Fleeces - Nothing new has emerged as yet although something could do at any time.
Jaxi50 is rarely wrong.
When he talks, I go short.
At least I would do if I knew how to short.
Although I do avoid buying Vodafone except for last summer when I bought a few at 1.18 and sold for 1.21.
It was a miracle that I didn't get trapped.
Fleccy - agreed and that's why I am going in super heavy.
Mrlong - indeed pundits are ignorant of brand value. For Gods sake, Vos is UK's top brand!!!
Jax - you forgot the ca €400m/year cashflow positive deal (to be rolled out by end of next year) with 1&1 signed this week? As a result Telefonica DE is wetting its pants.
Old news Jax, anything new?
Let’s not forget the material hit to revenue in Germany coming direct from the horse’s mouth
https://www.digitaltveurope.com/2023/05/17/vodafone-expecting-material-hit-from-change-in-german-tv-law/
I agree. VF is Undervalued. Yes, if you look at the immediate headline now, there’s an argument for being at 72p currently. But the bigger picture of infrastructure, brand, customer base etc etc isn’t being priced. There’s no easy, fast or cheap way to build a network of this side and they are reducing capex and infrastructure is in place at yesterdays price, build today would be a lot more expensive. in 12 months, we will start to see staff reductions in reports and other cost will stabilise if not reduce, whilst still billing on the lagged inflation increases.
You're highlighting something I've mentioned in some of my previous posts, definitely in reference to BT and possibly on this forum too:

RE: BTPS Briefing 2pm Today29 Jun 2023 22:15
EE alone was valued at around £12 Billion at purchase and it's now the new consumer brand of BT, so it should carry a valuation taking into account the combined entity with a revenue of around £9.7 Billion; Currently much higher revenue than Openreach, coming in around £5.6 Billion.
What I find most annoying, is the media bashing BT over its figures but skirting over the fact that capex will reduce over time, resulting in much higher Net Profit at the end of the FTTP/5G/IP Cloud transformation. Lots of speculation about debt increasing, but no mention of BT's projected cost savings. I take the view that vested interests are eyeing up Telecom assets, and putting as much concerted pressure on the sector as they can. It isn't just BT, the whole sector is taking a beating, look at Vodafone, Telecom Italia, Telefonica and less so Orange, meanwhile private equity are sniffing around for assets while the share prices are pushed down; Vodafone with Vantage Towers (KKR and GIP consortium), Telecom Italia with KKR's bid for their Landline Grid and you can bet Openreach is on someone's shopping list. The share prices of these companies say one thing, the vultures circling says another, in my opinion."
That isn't the only post, where I've brought up the contradiction between private equity investment in Telecom infrastructure and the valuations of publicly traded Telecom companies. My opinion is that retail are being slowly squeezed out of Telecom stocks, with big players quietly mopping up cheap stock in the background.
This is a little bit out there, but a massive amount of money is invested into the US tech giants, they resemble investment vehicles used to mop up and stop competition while growing themselves into behemoths. In the background they're also buying up certain Telecom assets, like Subsea cable and Server assets; Their business models are totally dependent on National Telecom infrastructure, which they have no control over and wouldn't be able to take over, but big entities betting the bank on US tech have a vested interest in ensuring Telecoms support the status quo. There are many possible reasons why Telecom valuations have been under attack for years, we can only guess what they are.
The surreal realities of these markets. KKR are said to be preparing a €10 bid for 80% of Telecom Italia's broadband unit only.
Remember Vodafone's broad band market share in Italy equals that of Telecom Italia. On the mobile side, which isn't covered in this bid, Vod has the largest market share ca 30%.
The fun part is that the €10bn bid is ca half of Vod group's entire market cap😂
Really weird times in the markets.
PS Increased my holding significantly this week.

"VOD still does not make it into my retirement fund though. I struggle to see the strategy for earnings growth with the plan to back it up."
They hold interests in various emerging market Telecom companies, that will likely see growth in the medium to long term; Who knows even Vodafone Idea might come good for them in the end, although I'm not holding my breath on that one. They're number 2 in Germany, so have opportunities to grow market share at the expense of DT, and they have opportunities to sell down other assets to bring down debt and fund investments elsewhere. None of those are a sure thing, but that's the chance you take when you invest in a company.
Share trading you mean. Bad for your wealth.
Fidelity analysed its clients’ portfolios between 2003 and 2013 and found that the best-performing portfolios belonged to those who hadn’t touched their investments. Coincidentally, many of these thriving investors were already dead.
So, pick the right companies with a good chance of growing earnings next 5 to 10 years, invest and wait.
VOD still does not make it into my retirement fund though. I struggle to see the strategy for earnings growth with the plan to back it up.
Thank for the sane message. Any one who does not like losing a bit of money should not indulge in share dealing. All share dealing sites are required to say clearly that a very large proportion of people lose money. Please, stay away from share dealing if you do noe like losing money.
Not sure why you is so rude to Mr long all the time.
Plus could you mind your language, the lads hear on the building site does not like it when you says 'balls deep'.
They is very sensitive hear.
Some of us has bet over £500 on the stock market and does not want to be upset by bad language.
I is not invested in Vodafone, but I has £450 bet on lyyods and would like your advice since you is a self proclaimed expert at share dealing.
Yours sincerely
