Rather than wait for the re-investment to go through, is anyone else going to re-invest now, with their own money, before the rush of re-investment orders that will come in once the special div is paid ? And/ Or anyone planning to trade the spike in the share price ?
I will be topping back up to my original share number, probably today or tomorrow . The SD will just replenish my funds buffer. I would like to see approx 1.5p added to the next divi which would bring my yield back to where it was. Hey ho.
Sold at before consolidation at 248.
Planning to go back in under 240.
£5bn return to shareholders on dividend day should result in price uplift.
In theory I'm probably right in practice I normally **** up.

Hi JR and Easy-Living
Did the equivalent re-investment this morning, even at 239.4 I still lost out by around 7 shares overall but it doesn't really affect my average in the SIPP and ISA. Decide what to do with the DIV cash when it comes Cheers GL.

That has worked out fairly well for you selling only about a few pence off of the recent high.
Of course investors didn't know that 250.7 was going to be the high.
I didn't sell near the high, which a lot more people would have done if they had a workable crystal ball, so it came down to a personal decision of chance.
There were of course others selling out before XsD which resulted in the drop below 240p, at which stage I purchased more.
Tesco is currently at a level that will give a good level of income stream compared with cash, and shouldn't give sleepless nights to investors.

Just got back in at 238.80.
Think the company will provide a steady dividend, and only sold because of the uncertainty around the consolidation. At a loss to understand the recent hysteria!!
Sit back now and wait for the dividend and top up on any weakness

''Just got back in at 238.80.''
Excellent- about the same purchase price as mine last Friday
So I'm a newbie but mainly hold for long term growth and investment. I have H and L and Equiniti account for my tesco shares. Can someone shed some light into this recent news about Tesco. I had 1500 shares and was delighted I'd receive 50p per share from the special dividends which equates to about £800. I had my shares since 2007-2008 up until now when i used to work for them and they were doing BAYE/ SAYE schemes. They were at £4.30 at their peak and I had an income of under £200 a year from the dividends but now just holding them in the long term in the hope they get to this amount again then sell. anyway I am now down to 1,184 239p at a cost of £2,829.76. apparently it costs £112.67
£2,717.09 2411.55% ? although I did own 1500 shares. does anyone know what will happen? will I receive the special dividend on the 26th feb and what will happen to the share prices? Am I at a loss/gain?
PS i have chosen to take all the dividends out as cash as I don't trust what is going on
And DOWN she drifts !
236p Blimey..Blink you miss it.
Could have nabbed an extra 0.5% on my buy today.
Never mind. The ongoing CV19 Recovery and reinvestment uplift should cancel this out. We'll see.
Cheers & GL
thanks Tigra. I'll check on the 26th Feb and see what the value of the remaining shares are once payment has been made :)
I've just bought at 231.8p to restore my original holding in the hope that once the SD arrives in people's accounts a lot will re-invest and push the price back up. Hoping I don't regret it, time will tell :-)

I've done exactly the same, so!d last week (pre exdiv) at 246.5 so I'm fairly happy considering I was eyeing it up at 239 yesterday .. I think it could go lower but it's a case of being happy with the price your in at .. I've got caught out being greedy before .. I had a few quotes rejected before a successful buy, I wonder why? I'm with IG ..
I'm better of than if id stayed in for the dividend ..
Good luck ..

I imagine you meant to get back to your original share count, which would give you a greater percentage of Tesco than you had before. I did similar but at a higher price level.
yes there is a wall of money coming, that shareholders will have to find a new home for.
LTI..
Yes, I bought back the amount of shares I "lost" after the 15-for-19 consolidation, which I planned to do anyway with the special dividend when it's paid next Friday. So I'm back to my original number of shares. Net result is the average price on 15,000 shares has moved from about 153p to 195p but, like you say, now own a higher percentage of the share capital.
It was the timing of re-investing the SD that I became a bit pre-occupied with. Bit the bullet on today's drop which I hope is partly due to the current 100-odd points drop in the FTSE 100.
