No idea why this is being called "special dividend", it's actually a compulsory share buy back. there is absolutely NO dividend at all. Once all the dust has settled I will get rid of my Tesco holding and buy another chunk of Ocado to make some REAL money that I can keep.
Tesco share price in a 'This is money' portfolio is currently showing
an ex special payment/pre consolidation price.
I'm sorry to tell you you'll be no better no worse off, You'll end up with whatever you started with.
THIS IS FOR yr11-shx
Every little helps!! :)
Every little helps!! :)
Dave Lewis (ex CEO) said that he wanted to reward shareholders for their patience and that 5 billion of this Asia sale would be returned via a SD! He said said that it would help shareholders who lost out after the accounting scandal!
What are we supposed to believe!?
I have got a side bet on with one Mr W. Buffett of Omaha. His entire fortune against my meagre £2000 Tesco holding. He says next weeks price will be price . £2.75. I say £2.45. It's death or glory .....
Worth mentioning that if your holding is a small one and/ or you do not hold in an ISA or other tax free vehicle because you're not a taxpayer, then any loss due to taxation does not apply.
Extract from the company circular dated 26th January
The effect of the Share Consolidation will be to reduce the number of Existing Ordinary Shares in issue by approximately the same proportion of market capitalisation returned via the special dividend (for these purposes, the market capitalisation used is that as at market close on 22 January 2021). It is anticipated, therefore, that the market price of each Ordinary Share in the Company should remain at a broadly similar level following the Special Dividend and the Share Consolidation
In other words the dividend will be offset by an equivalent reduction in shares, this will result in NO change to the share price come Monday.
In addition, I hope no one buying recently was thinking they were getting a free lunch by way of the 0.509p dividend.
If you purchased these outside an isa wrapper, don't forget any dividends you recieve over £2000 ( including any from your other investments this tax year) will incur a tax liability which will put you at an instant loss come Monday.
Is largely down to the size of the SD. It involves existing shareholders copping for a large sum, and prospective investors searching out if they can make a quick buck. But Tesco don't want short term get -rich -quick investors. It does not encourage shareholder loyalty. SDs combined with consolidations are an American led trend that has spawned itself into the UK and likely to spread. How you feel about that depends on how much you prefer the good , old fashioned, honest special dividend dispensed by firms who have has an exceptionally good year for genuine profits. You can not blame some investors for thinking the American trend is a case of " cutting the feet to fit the shoes". Lol
I dip in time to time but tried to clarify the misconceptions flying around.
that I have ever seen so many new posters on this board. Usually, the activity comes about when a SAYE plan comes to maturity so it makes a change to see so many investors on board. I'm sure there will be similar activity on Monday and thereafter silence.

https://www.tescoplc.com/investors/Scroll down to View Letter to shareholders. This will explain in simple terms why the price is planned to open around the same price around 241/2. Certainly not 188p.
How if the price went down?
Today £11m worth of shares were sold against £55m worth of shares were acquired. The ratio in favour of buyers is almost 5 to 1. The buyers must have seen it is worthwhile buying TSCO shares at the eleventh, instead of selling. I failed to grasp what are the benefits.

I think you are wasting your time in trying to educate those who do not understand and will not listen.
I'm amazed that there are people owning shares who somehow believe the SD is a free gift!!
Be interesting to the share price action next week.
Please Boys! NO recriminations on Monday morning. We are all in the same boat, whether we have sold out today or kept our shares. My guess is that both camps will be approx just as well off whatever we do except for a slight benefit for those who go the full nine yards for the final dividend qualification date of May.)
You do not need nreves of steel for this one lol
My Nan said she’s going to do a big shop! I’m hoping she goes to Tesco’s

what is going to happen over the weekend to justify about a 17% increase in market cap from
post consolidation.
Ok I believe share prices will be £2.80 Monday morning.
Yes I understand this that’s why I said share price will be £41.80p
y11
Don't think so. You will have less shares.
Does no one pay attention to their own investments.
I hope so that means I’ve made 20 percent in 4 days.

excluding normal market movements, Tesco will be at about the current share price on Monday
