I always find if Nasdaq has a bad day this share also has a bad day , if the ftse has a bad day this share also has a bad day we can’t win lately I’m also in for the long haul also . But it does seem like one step forward 3 steps back at the moment.
Weather the storm. I picked up some cheap shares earlier.
Inflation might not be the issue, CaptainPicard. SMT has a stake in Tesla. Tesla stated that they have not sold any Bitcoin and Bitcoin today has tanked. Regardless of the froth over the Bitcoin nonsense providing a valuation in discovering solution to a mathematical problem that has no benefit other than to criminals, The European Central bank is discussing insolvencies once financial support dries up. These are more likely to press on the asset valuation as that underpins the current share price.
FWIW, I have recently sold my stake in Baillie Gifford Japanese Smaller Companies and have ploughed the proceeds into UIFS.L Time will determine the folly or wisdom of my decision.
Great day to buy! Inflation has spooked the markets. Perfect time to take advantage of panic with a calm head.
It's that scary inflation monster spooking the markets again.
Always one step forward. two back at present and, for no obvious reason to me anyhow.Never seem to have the big gains (i.e. anything north of 40p) but when it’s a down ,like last week, (-80-90p) do we feel it big time.
Any explanation would be appreciated, and before anyone says it,I am in for the long haul.
Just not today Cap'n?!
Robleo, there is usually good reason for share price performance (or underperformance), particularly so with an investment trust. IMO the underlying assets that have weakened recently after a strong March and flat April. May has been as turbulent as the weather.
Short term volatility can be un-nerving, but more often than not, if investors can afford to do so, adding on down days to rebalance portfolio helps some whereas strengthening those that are making the greatest contribution to portfolio growth helps others.
Time in the market usually rewards investors
I have 100% faith in the management. Started in 2017 so well into profits despite recent turbulence. It will be in the £12 plus range again soon enough people. Should have bought more when it was sub £11.
Suggest you put it in your grandchildren's names as you will feel good and they will have time for recovery. Good Luck.
taffyman Re: Where else to put your money otherwise, I'm no expert, but for me I'm a bit on the cautious side, I have a selection of funds and a selection of high dividend shares plus Lloyds, with the funds, they are all in the blue and ok, but not big risers, my shares were all big time in the red due to the pandemic, so took the opportunity to sell off some of my worse performing funds, to average down on the shares, while they were at their low price, when I find a share of fund that I like, I try to top up on any dips, for me I need some income shares, but also need some growth, well that's what I aim for, but things don't always go to plan
what about you guys ?
Your are lucky to get more than 1 or 2 percent interest in bank accounts. So the way I see it, I'd be happy with more than that while the management plan takes effect. I won't say no to another 100% year though??
That is a very wise view on it. Where else to put your money otherwise ?
Oldsid 1,206.85p for me, I'm 65 now, so another year before retirement date, if I ever fully retire that is, not sure about the five year thing, but may as well leave it in and hope It comes back into profit, as long as it starts to show a profit, then I have no problem with leaving it build up for a few years
Good luck
Robleo well done on your decision mate I need to get to £12.87 and I’m in profit , I was in profit once so fingers crossed I’ll get there again and more I hope good luck all.
Thanks again guys for all your opinions and some good advice, I intend staying invested here, with the hope of getting back into profit, a few more days of rises and I should be there, and just see how it goes from there, note I have changed the subject title ??
All the best guys
