I have no agenda and will not be playing the silly childish games as I have seen on here. Some times the truth hurts.
prdc. "I have no agenda and will not be playing the silly childish games"
Pleased to hear that. My antenna registered a new profile with very similar rhetoric to another here. Then lo and behold he appears and responds to your post.
New posters always welcome but someone arriving with sleeves rolled up ready for a spar sends a warning signal.
I shall keep an open mind considering your statement above.
PRDC - I should have been more fair to RMG employees in some of my comments - but some people incense me. Your comments that you have seen the good and the lazy are apt. Some (not sure of the proportion) are exceptional, most are very good, and then some are darn right lazy and expect something for nothing. But you are entirely right - there are those who know their rights but have forgotten their obligations. There are those willing to give extra and go the extra mile, but strike action at this juncture when an organisation is going through a turnaround phase and is in the middle of negotiations is plain dumb!
Nuri as a postie we still need to protect ourselves. And as a lot of posties on here state it was a signed agreement between management and workers that all of a sudden management are trying to tear up in our office we gave up a lot of duties and o/t for this agreement why should/would we not protect ourselves. Im sure in life you have stood up for yourself when you feel your not being treated right/fairly. There is a lot of bullying going on which is unacceptable. I agree with i spy that some managers are soft and let the shall we say louder staff get an easier time. When i starter in 2000 there were early finishes but that has by far gone most finish on time most do their lapsing for free. Its not a walk in the park as it used to be. Just giving my honest opinion.
Defroster66 I know you will understand that the agreement is very detailed and full of lots of detail and different aspects. I don't believe RMG want to tear up the agreement there may be some elements that need amended in the light of some jointly agreed deliverables not materialising. I am making massive assumptions as even the grounds CWU have stated just generalise. Totally agree with you 100% on standing up for yourself if you feel you are being treated unfairly. I would also urge you if you or any colleagues have any evidence of bullying please contact the helpline as this has no place in the workplace. I appreciate your balanced opinions. GL
Defro. I am not anti union or wanting to unleash a storm but in the guise of devils advocate. First your word should be your bond etc, but it's my understanding that this agreement was negotiated by Moya who then stuffed a wad in her handbag and ran from the scene.
If you are the new CEO of a company that is on it's back and you find the previous incumbent lumbered you with a poorly negotiated agreement. Do you soldier on or try to revisit it and get something better ?
JB. Hadn't refreshed screen so your response was not evident. In which case I would have left the point with you.
Red I'm sure there are parts that need negotiating but I'm on the understanding that's not what's happening. As much as i feel rico can improve things you can't come in all guns blazing and not expect backlash from the workers.
Defroster66 that's the difficult bit for us outsiders now. What is Rico actually doing / saying? I would imagine the discussions that are ongoing are quite difficult and complex. "The union said: "In setting this timetable we clearly believe that the business, in spite of their own media campaign, are not working within the spirit and intent of our national agreements and are following their own agenda." Quite difficult to assess and measure "working within the spirit and intent" and very subjective Rico may think he is. In an earlier message the union said it was about pay and conditions. Hopefully mediation will sort it out.
Redceo, my understanding is that Rico doesn't like the agreement that the CWU had with Moya Greene and Sue Whalley (which is why Whalley was first out of the door).
As a long standing Royal Mail/GLS employee he knew what he was walking into and didn't need to take the job.
Oli. He didnt need to take the job but obviously thought he could turn the company around. I understand his remuneration is to a certain extent based on performance. He also invested heavily in himself by using his personal income to buy a considerable quantity of shares.
This is exactly what I want to see from the executive who will grow my investment. If in the process of baking the cake he needs to crack a few eggs so be it. I believe the workforce will benefit in the future from being part of a Company that is respected. Not one that ended its days as a basket case bought by the Russians Indians or Chinese.
Been retired from rm for a year now so lack info, but I heard that Rico would not buy the biscuits as that was part of the agreement, the days are long gone of the sue and Terry road show.
Oggie. Apologies for the typo with your name. Predictive text :-(
Don’t disagree with your general statement mate, but his change may involve breaking 20,000 eggs. BTW I do work there, I have the free shares plus my own, topped up again 2 days ago, because IA and Brexit already look priced in to me and some.
Hi and welcome Labbloke. I hope it's not so many. My question is would you rather be a British Steel owned by the Turkish Army or the survivor of a massive overhaul that resulted in a stronger enterprise that was a leader in its field?
Hi and thanks, yes of course the latter, but this could be achieved by negotiation over a decent timetable. To come in as he has and lay out this way forward is like waving the proverbial red rag to a bull.
Labb. I do understand your frustration. There are many ways to lead some become your friend others create a hostile environment around themselves. I don't know how Rico is with his trusted circle but my hunch is he is fully focused on the job in hand.
I also get the feeling Rico will move Heaven and Earth to achieve his goals. I personally would stick with it and have Rico as a friend not adversary. After all you catch more flies with honey.
@ Labbloke.
Please don't think that IA is factored in. The reason there has not been a drop in price is because the market does not believe it will happen.
If there is an actual walkout and further dates proposed for more, then the price will drop.
I Spy
Cheers Isleworth for the reply. I do think it’s already factored. Rico announced his long term plan in June, which encompasses losses of up to 20,000 jobs. In the most unionised private company in the U.K., the MMs know that IA would be a big upcoming factor. One of the reasons on the huge downmarking of this share, yes I know Brexit hasn’t helped as well. Once we get past this issue and it will be completed this year then this will fly. RMG has landholdings which more than outstrip it’s current SP alone. Never mind the profit, GLS and other profitable holdings it has
20,000 = £70,000 a week in subs, Terry & Dave ain`t going to swallow that.
