agree brown adder.i sense an ever-growing USA emphasis.
Brixton and O2 are a trial case and that will work on small scale
Ticketing etc are aimed at the American Market
And lets not forget ADVERTISING revenue.
For example. There's talk of One Direction reuniting for their 10th anniversary this year. How can they do that currently?
"One Direction will celebrate their 10th anniversary on July 23, 2020. For months, the group's members have been hinting at a reunion. Liam Payne has been the most outspoken about the anniversary and said that he's been in communication with the other band members."
Liam has already had experience with a VR gig and it sounds as though he's leading on the reunion. Okay, so it's probably short notice for them to do a streamed gig on 23rd July, but they could announce a gig on that date.
You're doing a world tour in one night. Once the app gets more known - and with Live Nation and Ticketmaster on board it definitely will, I think you're easily getting 100k people for small/medium artists.
And even more so if social distancing measures are in place for extended length of time. Where do you go to monetise your act? Artists are all keeping their profile high on Insta and Youtube. But where's the money? I think agents will be lining them up to do exclusive gigs at Brixton.
Now the big move up comes :))
At the moment the venue is immaterial as there is no audience. Filming at the O2 with 20,000 seats would be pointless and whilst empty its also a soulless arena. The Brixton Academy looks great even when empty and will add texture to those that want to use the full 360 experience.
Seeing as there are no other gigs in town at the moment its possible/probable that big names will have to 'lower' themselves to Brixton if they want to earn any live gig money.
Plus I think that 10k tickets is a little pessimistic for Europe and America alone much less the rest of the world when the app is released.
Hi PSB.
Whats to say that the partnership doesn't extend and rolled out across all of the 02 Venues? This is a starting point and highly likely this could extend to the O2 Arena upon success.
A valuation is tough to guage simply because this is a first.
I note you say that there's so much free content out there. Where? No other company is providing 360 VR streams of musical venues... Can you please link us to any you find.. I think you will struggle.
Concerning the monetization. They will record once. Why would they record and provide a live feed every single night? It's no different from previous recording by Melody with the exception that marketing will now be driven by Live-nation and Ticketmaster. In terms of PR and 'presence' this is huge.
Also. Could Melody simply be on retainer fee agreement?
The Arden Broker note is up. Melody are acting and now focusing on revenue with a huge partner. IMO, other partnerships will be announced... US Based.
So that's a good question, but rather than thinking about it from the point of what artists does the venue currently showcase, think of it as it as it will be the venue to go to, to get your act to the world. It's a draw to the artist.
Welcome PSB123
The logistics for VR gigs is very different than for physical gigs. Brixton Academy doesnt have tier 1 acts because they cant generate sufficient revenue to pay the acts what they demand due to limited physical space. Its similar on the theartre side. John Gore said most theartres are small and you cant just keep hiking tickets prices.
With a VR gig capacity is infinite so a big start could perform if the demand was large enough. There must be lots of big acts with music to release so I suspect some of these gig with larger artists are linked to album launches etc etc
If a mega star or big band says the only time I'm performing this year is on MelodyVr at the Brixton Academy I could see big numbers attending. Ticket price? I would think upwards of £10 maybe quite a bit more for the biggest acts.
Hi everyone, I’m a music fan and investor and come in peace.
I really like the concept of MVR and would really like to invest but I’m struggling with working out a credible valuation right now. If I look at the partnership the morning and try to evaluate it on that:
I’ve been to Brixton Academy many times, it’s a great venue, holds about 10k people and has had some amazing gigs but it’s generally bands that are just below the top tier (it’s not an O2 or a Wembley for example) and often UK focussed acts that haven’t yet made it internationally. On that basis I’m assuming some decent demand but it won’t be earth shattering, if they can sell 10k ‘tickets’ per night to a virtual show that is paid for I think that will be a decent result. I also wonder about pricing, how much are people prepared to pay when there’s so much free content out there? I try to be conservative so I’d assume somewhere in the £3-5 range (could be well out on this) and that MVR may take £1-2 of that? Assuming 5 or 6 shows a week that would be £50k-£100k a week to MVR, maybe £5m a year. On a basic PE of 10 that wold be a £50m valuation with a chunk of things needing to go right to make it true.
Obviously there’s lots of potential to expand and the real prize would be bigger venues and acts which could easily happen but based on what we know today it doesn’t come across as a screaming buy which is a bit disappointing as I’d like to invest here. Have I missed something, could anyone make a compelling counter case? Thanks
