Chris and speedy thanks hugely for posting this. I have had niggles of concern about whether team resolute would qualify if it was built British. This has erased those concerns and paves the way for team resolute to get the work. Really good news! Thank you
Chrisatrdg, good post. Very encouraging news for Team Resolute - combining the advantages of a more competitive international bid and UK Shipyard build. It seems the ads for new staff at H&W Belfast is gearing up for the bidding contest.
Allow me to provide more detail and comment.
I noted 3 things in particular:
1) Ben Wallace was reading a prepared response.
2) He referred to the vessels as "warships" and seemed to emphasize the word, thereby allowing international bidders.
3) He also seemed to emphasize the word "alongside."
Verbatim:
Question: Will the government support GMB unions call for the FSS order to be placed in UK shipyards?
Answer: Mr Speaker. We have already started a market engagement exercise and had a healthy response. I intend to announce the procurement timetable for these WARSHIPS in due course, after market testing has completed. We intend to encourage international partners to work ALONGSIDE UK firms to bid, which will build on the succession of the Type 31.

Hon Ben Wallace MP said & I paraphrase with regards contracts for the type 31 support vessels ' Started a market engagement exercise & had a healthy response - announce procurement timetable in due course - encourage international partners to work along side UK firms to bid which will build on the succession of type 31 '.
Edit: In short MOD have put it out concerning building of type 31 support vessels & had a good response from the potential bidders & partnering with international partners is being encourage to build on 'the succession of type 31'.
Looks like INFA have a good chance of getting on the bidders list with existing partners.Expect invitation to tender hopefully by end of this year.
Chrisatrdg - In relation to your 11.59 post I would be very surprised if those questions are reached. Defence questions will not start until about 2.35 after prayers so they will only have about 40 minutes to answer questions until the topical questions will be asked.
Oral questions: Defence (including Topical Questions) being asked this afternoon in the House of Commons.
Q35. When his Department plans to award the contract to build the Fleet Solid Support Ships; and if he will make a statement.
Gill Furniss MP (Sheffield, Brightside and Hillsborough, Labour)
Q36. What recent assessment he has made of the contribution of defence procurement contracts to the UK economy.
Christian Matheson MP (City of Chester, Labour)
Edit: Will be interesting.
