One of the difficulties faced by investors in gas storage facilities in the U.K. is the current approach to business rates. There is a lobbying effort to seek to reduce them as they equate to more than all of the other operating costs to run these facilities and are therefore a significant consideration on the economics.
I’d say the other big bone of contention lies with the charging methodology applied by National Grid, particularly on Exit i.e. on withdrawals from store. No recognition is given to the value that embedded storage has upon the operational costs (read compressor fuel) and reinforcement mitigations of a gas store and supply source within the network and usually close to points of high demand and at key nodes.
Both of these moronic constructions which are linked to appallingly thought through Energy Policy have to change to encourage more storage to be built so both developers and traders can invest with confidence and ensure greater price stability for the general public. (Note the recent lifting of the so called price cap imposed by Ofgem last week putting about £10 per month on folks domestic bills).
There’s common sense ..... and there’s uk government (yes Europe too but they are generally more visionary on storage matters)

Many areas of the firth of forth are protected. World famous mussels and King prawns in Loch Fyne. Didn't stop a royal navy nuclear submarine base from being built. This is a goer.
There is a deep water port at Larne. I've often got the car ferry from Stranraer to there. Anyway ...

hmmm,...the salt will NOT be pumped into the lough ...I don't know why we bother with this one !!!
Larne Lough and islandmagee is a protected area and has shell fish and Flat fish and wild life.
Just how deep do you you claim the water is near the site?
Do you think you could get big gas tankers from USA into the lough with all the salt pumped into the lough..
Try reading about Larne lough.

Mr jeffry,
Thats the negative take on things, the positive is that these warrants are putting cash into the coffers, they are a small distraction in the grand scheme of things.
Let's look positively shall we, all share enhancing news in the pipeline to come in the next few months, we have had a period of neutral news, extension of financing decision, placing and the EU grant wasn't succesful. In saying that the financing news was positive, the placing was explained as to what the funds were to be used for and the EU grant will be reapplied for.
