Travel test kits are available on the internet priced between £120-175 per kit so out of reach of most people. Stipulation is that you must do the test (swab back of throat) within 72 hours of travel, send it off and get a certificate back by e-mail. Of course the test only tells you if you have the virus in that moment of time. Once a reliable or cheaper test can be found then the world can open up again.
.... On second thoughts £120 may be worth it to find some sunshine in January...or go mad!
Castle I agree it's not fool proof. There's a price per QALY(quality-adjusted life year) though and it'll be based on similar, ie how many cases are we willing to risk.
This article is from 2014 but I'm sure there are more recent ones available...https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-28983924
Hi Castle, there's a reason it's getting reported and it's because it's big. There will be a risk based assessment for implementing it.
Castle 2012, really no problem with an opinion but you really don't know how testing works! for info, I just received a home test kit which is government approved for where i'm leaving (the UK) to where I'm flying (UAE & S.A). The requirement is two fold
1. test must be done within 72hrs of arrival at destination
2. must be a negative result.
if I cant prove I've had the test at the dep airport, i'm not allowed to board the flight
If the test result is positive either before I depart or on landing I get sent back 'isolated'
i'm guessing you don't travel much, this has been in force for a while now for many countries!
planes are still flying, airports still busy, just not as busy. The biggest issue stopping people flying is the blanket quarantine of 14 days to some destinations and from some destinations..That is the issue so 15 min turnaround will be a game changer. Please educate yourself before making a fool of yourself...education is free!
Looking at the bigger picture, I think the rapid tests will assist in dampening the spread of virus, which irrespective of any invested interests will be a good thing for health services around the world & humanity as a whole. If we can better manage the virus it should help us to return to a new 'normal'. Which in the absence of a suitable vaccine is a good thing IMO.
Wow, I honestly don’t you if you’re being serious? I’ll leave it at that for tonight.
Leaving on a positive note for all of the industries and sectors, rapid testing being rolled out around the world is happening now.
The U.K. government are already running 3/4 trials at present for saliva tests. Weather they buy the US/Korean tests could change the way our country operates and very very quickly.

Castle, I’ve educated you over and over again on many occasions. You never accept what I’m telling you (when it’s facts). It’s almost as if you don’t read what I’ve written.
What part of my last message did you not understand in relation to testing and areas of testing and the fact that it’s already been trialled and been successful.
I’m not desperate, I’m in this stock and I’m here until I hit my target which I’ve been clear from day one. You are not in this invested in this stock, yet you’re here daily commenting on something that has zero impact on you or your life.
You’re either divorced and lonely or again I’ll say it, stupid. Which one is it?
Castle, you’re even more stupid if you think they’d actually test amongst other travellers in the airport, risking a spread if someone tests positive.
How are we testing people at present? Ahh it’s a testing centre/tent (some of which are right next to the airport) some within the airport.
Europe have introduced self contained areas on site at the airport for testing.
All you need to do is produce the negative (text)/(document) to be eligible to fly/not quarantine. How the ins and outs are actually setup is for the government and the airports to agree on, that’s above my pay grade, as is it yours.
You do know that rapid testing was already trialled at Heathrow and was a success? This isn’t as far away as you think.
The government are terrified of being blamed for further covid spikes, hence the hold up. We are lagging behind the rest of the world with airport testing and pressure is mounting.

Stick with the facts and look at the figures don't just make things up and think everyone is going to jump back on plane's
It is not C19 that is stopping people travelling but government lockdown measures, ostensibly quarantine!
when that changes people will travel, that is why c19 is still spreading because the majority of people don't give a S**t...
You are deluded if you think that these things aren't going to change everything - the demand/desire to travel was evident when the last lockdown ended - it's not covid that's been the barrier but the quarantine rules which will go now with these tests becoming available now.
A phone app isn't going to get people back on plane's to much fear around and will be its something the world's got to get use to
So that's stage 1 sorted then - all that Boris needs to confirm on Wednesday is how these test results are going to be input on the app and then for everything to start opening again. No negative test result = no entry as I was saying last week,
No one wants to fly now covid 19 has put the fear in flying a vaccine to be used on humans is years away
