No substantial buys to support the price rise, maybe an optimistic bias being experienced.
Hi Alex, As this only floated at the beginning of August I think the majority if not all of the funds are currently sitting as cash. My understanding is that money raised will be invested over the coming months so as I type this the bid is 112.5p so not a bad return for one month on effectively cash! Point of the rise is probably a desire for other investors to get on board but existing holders not keen to sell. More of a long term investment with I recall reading somewhere the aim to return 10% to 15% growth per year by 2023. Its actually risen faster than I expected however its early days and prices go down as well as up. Incidentially, if you do end up with say a 15% return pa in the future then on float price of 100p thats a heafty yield of 15% and accordingly I personally believe that sometime in the next couple of years we could see the price at 200p which would still equate to a 7.5% yield. Even that price would probably entice further interest. Hydrogen is also getting a lot of news and interest as lithium for battery power is not in easy supply athough I understand there are substantial deposits in Afghanistan! So Hydrogen, starts to look ever more enticing. Good luck whatever you decide. All IMHO + DYOR. Best regards to each and all, JPDM
I looked over this on primary bid and didn’t buy. Hoping to start a new position relatively soon. Would like to know the portfolio before I commit.
Don't forget that Woodford's issue was holding illiquid assets in an open ended fund. The run on that fund, fire sale and subsequent suspension affected his IT too. Just look at HGT's graph to see successful investing in private equity can be.
It's suddenly started taking off, not just the price but the amount of trades. Hydrogen is getting quite a bit of press at the moment, at this rate I would expect a fundraiser sooner rather than later, which wouldn't be a bad thing because the management won't be happy until they have the cash available that they initially wanted. I just hope they include the initial investors in their plans.
Whilst I'm pleased to have seen such a rapid rise I can't quite understand why it is happening so fast when the daily NAV reported has stayed pretty constant just under 98p!
Am I missing something?
Neil Woodford was extremely good with large quoted companies for a very long time but, he had no experience in unquoted companies in various
specialist sectors. One bad example doesn't mean the same for every other investment.
This looks like an interesting place to invest. Maybe I could use it as an offset to my investment in Thungela. The only thing that scares me a little is the mention of investing in unlisted companies, we all know what happened to Neil Woodford when he tried that.
Hi Jamesy, I sort of go with PM444 but would add that it is difficult and its not always down to facts but good old sentiment. The only problem with sentiment thou is that sooner or later that needs to be backed up with facts so you end up with a price that is like an elastic band and the sentiment (beit positive) stretches the price up however, at some stage facts and results have to back that up or the price pings back again. Currently the sentiment is very positive and hopefully some sort of news from the fund managers indicating where our money is going is going to back up any price increase. It is difficult to know where to turn but all I would say is that rather than chasing one or two individual Hydrogen company's this fund does hopefully give exposure to a range and scope of Hydrogen companies and hopefully spreads the risks rather than a single investment, thats why I've invested. I would like to think that the Fund Mangers own expertise adds weight to investing with them. Just my thoughts... Best regards and good luck to each and all. JPDM
Jamesy, the management is very experienced, heavy backing from good investors and the opportunity to invest in unquoted companies.
As you say, particularly with the current interest in hydrogen and a good vehicle to invest with less volatility and a balanced risk. IMHO.
Not much to base a punt on here??? Can't see rise down to anything other than Hydrogen being the in thing as the IPO was disappointing, particularly given the interest in Hydrogen. Am I missing something? I'd like some exposure to hydrogen but difficult to know where to turn at this stage...
I'd agree with that.
I believe we are in at the commencement of a new universal development.
Quite surprised with a 5% uplift, following the IPO difficulty.
However, all good here.
Well 3.5% return in less than a month is a good start. Certainly been plenty of hydrogen related news and thanks to those fellow posters who posted the links over past days. I do believe that we are going to start hearing a lot more or at least see an increase in 'Visibility' regarding Hydrogen. Best regards and good luck to each and all. JPDM
Does the price rise suggest news is coming ?
Lots of mixed views and stats regarding H2. A collection here:

The future is promising.

One of the characteristics of several listed hydrogen is their volatility. If you look at their share prices they can easily move 5-10 p.c. in a day and 15-20 p.c. in a week. Unlisted stocks are a different matter - it's more difficult to pin down their prices other than the last one you paid. In a volatile sector you want relatively frequent NAV numbers but I must admit daily seems a bit over the top. Weekly should do. Overall several H stocks have seen a fair bit of slippage from their euphoric highs of last year so a bit of bottom fishing by Hgen is no bad thing. They are now good value for the 1-3 year period.
Thanks Crocqman.
Can understand a quarterly, possibly monthly return.
However, releasing a daily RNS for it, seems a bit of overkill.
This link might be useful regarding NAV.
How, why, etc
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/n/nav.asp
Funds and trusts are obliged to produce a NAV on a regular basis, whether that be daily, monthly, quarterly, etc.
This fund is publishing the NAV daily, per the prospectus (p.59)
Can any-one shed any light, as to why we are receiving daily a NAV in an RNS?
If so:
1. What's the purpose.
2. How long will it continue?
Thanks.
Not seen anything so far.
As others have pointed out, their website is pretty basic just now (it seems more geared up to pre-launch), and there does not appear to be anything anywhere else (HL,Mornigstar, Trustnet etc) to outline holdings as yet.
Not too concerned as another fund that launched a week or so earlier has no holdings showing either just yet, although they did give out more info pre-launch on target companies via a good webinar (there was an element of in-specie transfer for this particular fund launch though, so some more transparency)
It is possible that they are still building their portfolio and my guess is that we may not see anything until the fund is fully invested and at target weights
anybody any idea of holdings this fund has?
I would be concerned that the intended growth of 10 - 15% per year that was targeted would possibly be sacrificed to provide the discount in raising further funds. I am all for some discounted rights issues to existing private and institutional shareholders to increase the market cap rather than dilution in growth.
I liken the scenario to Gore Street, and several others in the green energy categories. Always raising money to grow the company, because there will always be a thirst for new investments. I expect two to three years of raising funds at a discount. Eventually we will get where they want the company to be. I just hope they are able to increase the share price before they continue raising funds.
