Si D, TOH has done a recce this morn. That unit, which had been sat in the mud for ages, has gone. Plus ‘the big blue Barge’ has gone too - whatever that is.
Had my eyes on two tugs this afternoon IVO Lundy. Looks like they proceeded down the river late afternoon. Wondering here whether they’ve gone to move that vessel that was on the mud outside the dockyard. Good night for it given the full moon and associated high/very high tide.
Looked at the past track on Marine Traffic and it didn't go anywhere near the drydock. Just kind of pulled away from where it moored.
Right, i'm going on a mission and may be some time. ;)
Tried the surf web cam from the kite shop in Westward Ho! lol

Must be too far out
😀😃
Yeah. Just spotted it has left. lol
I could head it off in the kayak as it comes down the coast from Hartland Point. :)
Hang on, got an idea!
New here, I am interested in this!
Thanks Si_D, think we posted at the same time :)
Towing something to Falmouth
Never know? They've bought stranger things in the past, like shipyards. lol
I know it's been on the cards for a while, like a few other things, but I've been looking at a mutitude of tugs recently as during the Scilly scutiny meeting JW actually said that they had "acquired " one, along with a CTV. We have seen this one before in Belfast and even though it came up from Southampton (where H&W don't have an office) it's owned by Holyhead Towing.

There's one named Flatholm that looks as if it's out of the water right next to Samson. Which is now live for all to see, btw.

Guess we shall see soon what is going on with it.
May be unlikely but not impossible that H&W have bought the tug?
Both of the M55's hull's were intact when they were floated into the dry dock. Not sure if they have compromised the integrity ot the Atherstone's hull whist using it for spares for the Quorn. Other than needing to keep them dry whilst doing any repairs to the GRP components of the vessels I'ld Imagine the main reason they were kept inside over this extended period was for security rerasons. Never know who's nosing about. ;) Would certainly have made working conditions easier with ability to disregard the weather. Can't imagine it will be very much longer before they are done with the Quorn anyway. A few more months if they are on track. As regards maneuvering them aroundaround to get the cable barge out. The Altherstone is on the left hand side of the dry dock, looking out, so is adjacent to the mezzanine level where the pic shows the cable barge under construction. I was trying to recall the timeline between the finishing of the Tower Lifeboat Station pontoon and the arrival of the Minesweepers and if they were "in the way" when that was floated out. I'd imagine the main reason to keep them inside is there are no quayside cranes at Appledore anymore. Inside there are a number of heavy lift gantrty cranes to move things in and aropund the vessels. So to answer your question , unless they are desperate for the space I can't imagine they would move them out to work on them. And if they are still there when the FSS work starts then we may have bigger issues. :)
Si - not sure how things are done at Appledore but may the M55 be brought out and finished on the water?
Sorry, KBS. A right click on the left hand pic and to open image in new tab and you can clearly see the Altherston. With maybe a few more bits missing than last time. :)
Yeah, good shout. But in the link that was shared a week ago by KMS, it looked a little way off completion. Good if they have got it done as they originally said for spring delivery.

LSEO3 , shouldn’t be far off imho

Maybe this is ready.
Maybe waiting on the tide to get over the sand bar, but after a lot of faffing about out in the bay the Afon Alaw has now moored up at the Newquay yard. Same place the Terramare and Samson were. So I would guess it's almost certainly something to do with the yard as that is their mooring and not somewhere where a casual visitor to Appledore would park up. Interesting.
Slightly smaller than Searose FPSO 😃
I'll show you a picture instead. Previously mentioned landing craft with the Appledore yard across the water. It's alongside the jetty I noticed the four H&W guys on last week. Obviously a secret MOD contract worth eleventy million, so expect this post to be removed.

Okay.
Si_Derman ref 08.12 post do not tell me hat after all this time the Atherstone is being evicted with no information as to where it is going.
Seems it had already left the yard, LSE. It's only stationed a few hundred yards across the river from the yard. Yesterday it did a short trip up the river from it's moorings up near to the RM base at Istow and this morning has gone out into the bay and looks to be heading straight for Clovelly. Testing out all the work it's had done at Appledore? Sometimes they beach them on Sauton Sands to offload vehicles for exercises. Hopefully the Afon Alaw has come to take the Atherstone away. :)
LCU 9738 left site this morning
AFON ALAW tug on way to Appledore, might not be to H&W
