Been a tad busy these past couple of days. Was kicking myself yesterday as I took early profit as the SP began to flatline somewhere around 9am. Imagine how annoyed I was to come back and find she had hit 145. I could have had 10 more points on 15000 shares!! C'est la vie! Back in though as this will surely now rise. What is perhaps more impt than anything else yesterday was the massive volume -that bodes very well indeed. I will now hold my CFD contracts and let this ride to 180's plus!!! GL&ATB PS. TW came good today for me. I have a whole pile of shares at an average of 38-39 but also 4 CFDs with an average of approx. 26. Should have taken profit last week (or week before!!) but patience is the name of the game!! TW is my early retirement fund for when I turn 50 -lol!!
Hi mate i said i wasnt gonna post till my birthday but im 6 weeks early :) What Fantastic news Shares in GKN, up 75 per cent over the year, hit 145.3p, compared with their previous close of 133.1p, valuing the company’s equity at £2.24p on Wednesday morning. Nice to see we both hung in there Catcha soon and good luck
Excellent profit statement today, profits almost £170M Whoo hoo
Are you making money on TW? They slid a lot of late and with the government plans I can't see much scope for them. They are on m,y watchlist tho GL
Nope, I'm pretty happy with today, much as I had expected. I thought GKN and most stocks would trade flat after any gap fill until the american markets opened. Perhapos I did not expect us to slide back as far as we did!!. I knew last night that the FTSE would rise before the end of the day today -posted as much on the LLOY and TW BBs. I now expect a gap up tmw morning if all goes well o/n in Asia and Australasia. I may then jump out and get back in ony any gap fill. It worked a treat the other day!! I'm only into TW, LLOY, BARC and GKN although I also hold shares in CWP (best not mentioned -I'd settle for a 25% loss!!). Still waiting to break and hold 134 and then I might load up for the ride to 140+. I still believe this SP has significant upside from here. ATB.
Hi not as exciting today as perhaps you hoped. Lots of poor share performance everywhere, still we ended up on the day. With cfds, if you lose you lose. With shares if the price goes down at least you still have the shares and hopefully they will recoverin time. I qam in VOG and am down about 25% but if we get a good RNS soon then I hope to be in profit. GL for tomorrow
Interesting as I now question why I should ever want to own shares (except in an ISA) when CFDs can give me all the benefits of owning including divis and where I can get better leverage for my funds. I also very much like the PureDeal platform with IG Markets where I can set stops and limits etc. The other problem with shares is every time I was making a trade I was paying too much in stamp duty. I reckon in my first six months I split my profits 50:50 with the British gov't. I have no idea of the rules and regs regarding non-UK EU citizens rehgistering with UK trading platforms. ATB and already I'm looking fwd to a nice rise tmw and for teh rest of the week -I hope!!
Glad you made a profit today. Unfortunatley as Ilve in France and at the moment buy shares through HSBC France, it is very expensive and so I am waiting for the right moment. It is possible to buy relatively easily and cheaply on the Paris exchange but very difficult for London. I am hoping to open a trading account in the UK but it is very difficult. I have tried cfd's but whether through inexperience or stupidity, I didn't do very well. At the moment I prefer shares., GL
Damn good timing if you ask me. £600M contract, thats some serious dosh, I wonder what it means for the company logistically. I was kicking myself Friday evening for having spurned the opportunity to sell out at 134 on no less than 4 occassions last week. I generally play the rule that if an SP fails to break key resistance on the third attempt then its time to sell up. On Friday I got distracted with trying to get back into BARC and then everything started to collapse with the SPX (my preferred yardstick for market sentiments!). When I saw 140 first thing this morning before opening I thought it was a computer glitch so when we opened and it was over 138 I pressed that sell button as fast as I possibly could and made a tidy wee profit. Got back in on gap fill at 132 with one CFD. If tmw looks good I'll look to pick up another. I suspect we will see a very upbeat 2Q10 -future growth/income projections must be the envy of its peers!! lets hope the 120's are now behind us! ATB
Good news about the engine components orders! I'm always optimistic, probably a bad thing but looking forward to first half results which must be due soon. GL today
Big day tmw IMHO. Its break and hold 135 or prepare for a backward slide. I'm feeling optimistic. GL&ATB
I thought that was a very good piece. Today, all the shares on my watchlist were down except GKN. I am looking forward to seeing 150 soon, most brokers have it as strong buy, buy or hold so it is only a matter of time. I am hoping for a rise before first half results. GL
As GKN tends to follow the market and has a beta value of 1.62, I think so long as the FTSE keeps going up then GKN will as well. Keep a tight stop loss and get back in when you can. Have a good weekend, GL :)
Lets hope its third time lucky and that this time we break and hold 130. This is where I cocked up last time, the SP then fell back further than I could cover but this time I'll bail much quicker if it falls back. ATB&FYOC (follow your own convictions)
Good to see you back in. I am confident that we will get back to 150 but most shares have closed at a 6 week low today! I think there is too much nervousness at the moment. If it goes down to 102 I will top up.GL
I don't mind CFDs and I still think the reward was worth the risk even though events went against me. Not to worry I'm back in -bit like falling off a bike! I still expect 150+ in the near future, ie b4 the yr is out. I noticed on Thursday the SP closed bang on a Fib support (38.2% retracement for 09Mar09 low to 27Apr10 high) and it tested it again on Friday. I therefore jumped in today gambling that the S&P500 will not breach 1010 support (also a 38.2% Fib). If it crumbles I'll be straight back out for no more than hopefully the cost of the trade!! ATB
Interesting. I watched TW but they seem to have had a hammering of late. I keep looking at ALBK which have been up and down to 1.45 but are now at 0.85. CFDs are OK so long as you have a stop loss set . I got done on LLOY and RBS on CFDs so am only in shares at the mo. GL
I once had shares but sold out at 124 a few months back when I thought she was going to cycle back down to 100 which she did but not before hitting 154 after the latest round of takeover rumours. I then gotr back in on CFDs at 119 and took her all the way to 130. I then got stopped out on what I though was going to eb a retest of horizontal support. Got back in at 128 (I think) only to then watch it fall. When it failed to bounce off 115 I had to bail. Although the loss was sizeable for me (£2k) it was all paper profit so I remain quite stoic about the whole thing. My underlying sentiment for this company does not change and as soon as I believe the FTSE will turn for the good I'll be straight back in. I'm also holding out to see if 1010 holds on the SPX. GKN is one of my top four buys and will always be a first pick along with BARC, LLOY and TW. TW is another that is giving me a hiding both on shares and CFDs. I just don't get the recent market volatility! No idea on the divi -its never a consideration, I just view it as a bonus!
That but as you say loads of shares have taken a hit. Are you in shares or cfd's? In shares you can just wait for the correction, cfd's are a different matter. Doe anyone know when divi is to be announced?
While I was filling my booties I shat my pants -I've been well and truly taken to the cleaners. But I will be back as this SP is ******, as indeed are most others, and I do like GKN. ATB&GLA
Thanks mate, hope you are well and OK. Often pop in and read your posts -they have helped reassure me that this company is well worth investing in. 185 is actually quite conservative, I have much bigger hopes but thought I would get shot down and ridiculed!! ATB and take care of yourself.
Interesting chart. I agree that this could go to 185. I bought at 105 and was pleased when it got to 152, but held on as I saw it as a good investment especially as there should be a divi soon. I still see no reason to sell and am quite happy to hold. As Larryh says it is interesting what they have done with the Land division. The trouble is all the markets have been down and GKN is following that trend. I believe that the 150 was as a result of tentative takeover buying but we shall see. This is a good well managed company and I thought your chart analysis was very interesting GL
I have GKN playing beautifully off its Fib lines but also in an ascending wedge formation. Seems to me it has tried breaking free twice only to be sent back down to its ascending support line. IMHO I think there is a (weak!) possibility we could see 117-119 next week before she turns and punches through 130 for good. Look at the volume when she does touch support! Stuff the broker ratings, my target is 185, there is more going on over this SP than meets the eye. GLA, ATB & DYOR. http://host-a.net/Sinbab1/GKN26Jun10.JPG
I,ve been in hospital since Sunday sojust catchung up. Wish you well with the oilies, I'm in VOG and it is a testing time, lots of patience needed. The whole market did badly yesterday so I am am still holding on. Perhaps it may get back to 150 one of these days.. GL
