are out tomorrow, here's hoping we get a good set ( i think we will) GKN is a soundly managed business.
24-Feb-11 - Citigroup - Hold - 2.15 - DownGrade
Commiserations indeed, first time back since my last post and the decision to chase Barc at the expense of GKN has to be worst ever. Nevermind, I'm finally starting to take another look at this stock as the SP is finally retracing to back-test that rising support of an old ascending channel. In fact if you run a set of parallel lines from 07may09 to 11jan11 and 09mar09 to 25May10 you have a new wider ascending channel with the 50% line between the two almost defining the old ascending resitance line. %0% is actually 196, my old R line would be at 192. lets see how she bounces but I am now targetting 185ish, approx. the 38.2% Fib channel retracement, as my entry. ATB to all
A few years back, my father in law - a GKN worker - recommended buying these shares. He's no long with ut - so thanksm Fred.
confused GKN with GSK.
Is it true that \warren Buffett is a shareholder in GKN?
Such a shame that you sold out of GKN so early, commiserations. In one of your earlier posts you said that you wanted to buy shares in every sector, thinking about your words I wondered why you do not consider getting into two or three Investment Trusts some of which sell at a healthy discount to their assets. You could pick a good general overseas trust, another that specialises in Europe and a third that just does Britain. If you look you will discover internet sites that list the past performance and lots of other information, there is in fact one site that is the Investment Trust trade association, sorry I can't remember its exact name but you should be able to find it. In addition to this there are all sorts of magazines that publish this information on a monthly basis, time for a visit to W.H. Smith perhaps. In your shoes however I might steer clear of Unit Trusts. The annual management costs which are deducted from the Trust, i.e. your Trust in which you are invested, plus the usual 3%- 5% that you have to pay upfront just for the privilege of buying in, makes them, imho, totally uneconomic, others may disagree of course - particularly unit trust fund managers! All the best, storm.
LWB eh ? I'll watch with interest....what's your take ?
I have just invested in Low and Bonar LWB as I think that they could do well so we will have to see. Have a good weekend and GL
Wishing you all the best and I would certainly be interested in where you go next. In all seriousness I expect GKN to retest 160 if not 155 in the coming months. At that point I will be back in. If I had the courage of my convictions I would short although as a rule, I never short. So perhaps I will make sure I always have cash available to buy back in. But knowing my luck, this SP will simply sail away from me and be the one that got away. ATB
Thanks, I have emailled the bank to check but I would hope they have sold at 180 as it has been above 181 this morning. It is more complicated but shares in France but I hope I have been successful. This was my first share purchased, in at 105.1 and out at 180 so I am pleased. At the same time I am a bit sad to sell as I am sure it will go higher but that is now for someone else. I amnow looking at what to invest in next and I want to build a portfolio where I have a share in every sector. I am grateful for some of the information I have learned from you and Luckygold and in comparison with many boards this is very pleasant and polite. Hope to come across you in the future. GL
Congrats on holding out for 180 -did you keep the sell order or are you still holding? I wished I had better learnt the art of patience but I have also learnt the painful lesson of taking profit when its there for the taking. ATB
Been back for over a week now and I'm impressed with how this SP has been holding up. I'm still sitting out, I guess for two reasons. The first is I jumped into BARC at 308 for what was x4 the size of CFD I normally take only to then see the SP slip so I now need to cover my backside bigtime. The other is that GKN has now just crossed over and above a long standing upper trend line for a channel that has been running since early last year (soory no graph to show). Daily Stoch is over the 80% percentile, volume is getting incredibly thin, RSI is 75% and momentum may just be turning. This could still fly higher but I'm nervous it could also turn for the worse. I've had a good run making over a 100 points on this SP but I might now take a wait and see approach. Looks like you may be thinking the same!! ATB
Are still on holiday in NZ or are you back in Blighty? I have a sell order in for 180 aand thought itmight go there this morning but it fell back, still I am learning the art of patience. ATB
I hope it does keep rising if for no other reason than to see where it gets to. Unfortunately for me I pulled out first thing this morn at 172, just before it dived before recovering. I'll look to get back in on any retrace. ATB
Nice to see it close on a high today. I hope it continues tomorrow but am not hopeful with the way the markets are at the moment.
Nice to see that german car manufacturers hey have just had their best Q on record (or was it since 2008). Regardless, got to be good news again for GKN. ATB
I hadn't seen the article. Currently on holiday in NZ and have limited download capacity so I have had to curtail my internet browsing. Its good to see GKN back in the FTSE100 and as you pointed out earlier, hopefully this will now improve its SP which I still consider to be significantly undervalued. AT
Don't know whether you caught this news? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/industry/8021549/GKN-back-from-the-brink.html ATB
Morning nice to see a cheerful soul ATB
and will look to double up at 160. Come on 203!!!
Just LSE having a glitch or 2. When I saw the sp as 203 I got quite exciited :))
Does anyone know if this sp is correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the figures this year end will make pleasant reading.
Looking good to reach £2 before year end in my view. And the divi's not too shabby. Interim x-div (1.5p) payable 29 Sept. The Divi history makes good reading and suggests an increase is likely over time as the market recovers 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 DPS p 8.10 8.30 8.77 9.25 0 Norm EPS p 12.04 23.93 20.86 3.17 7.26 Reported EPS p 5.13 16.81 18.76 -11.68 -3.20
