An interesting watch from experts?

I heard a report on the radio that explained how Germany has done so well at managing Corona. Early on a journalist contacted the German top Corona virus expert and asked if the expert could do a daily podcast explaining about Covid 19, answering questions and educating the public about the virus. It overnight became the top selling podcast on Apple. Germany has 29K fewer cases than Italy but 1/10th the number of deaths on this Sunday evening. I heard mention of it being translated into English but I think it is possibly too late at this point for it to have much impact in either the US or UK....
When I was in the UK - about 3 weeks ago - in the space of 8 days the advice went from
a) If you have symptoms self isolate for 14 days, then
b) If after 7 days you only have a cough you can return to society, and finally
c) if you gave symptoms you and your household must isolate for 14 days
At no point was the advice to "get tested ASAP so we can see the real extent of this". You couldn't even call NHS to let authorities know you might be infected. I hope a benefit of this is that mortality rates or the numbers of those severely affected will end up being percentage wise a lot less than the recorded figures? I think the only charts that can be said to be reliable are for those places that have mass testing programs in place (such as S.Korea) or mortality rates where testing can support mass fatality testing.
Bit ironic Michael Gove thanking the Chinese government for enabling access to 300 new ventilators yesterday...he even said it with a straight face lol...
Back in the early 1990's I was in Beijing which at the time was still a pretty mysterious place. We did a "visit real Beijing" tour that took us to a local area that had a communal toilet block. The local guide was actually very funny and he told this joke that like all good jokes was funny because it was true -
Question - what is the big difference between our toilets and your cowsheds?
Answer - You clean your cowsheds
I guess you had to be there to find it real funny!
MadP - my night time here so let me take a look in the morning and get back to you. I did take a quick look at China and Germany. I presume you are wondering about the plateau in China compared to continued growth in other places? In most other countries the approach has been testing & treatment (to various levels) and combinations of lockdowns and / or degrees of distancing. In China, there was no testing in the early stages and the govt imposed extreme lock downs as the only form of treatment. There was little access to what was already limited medical facilities. I doubt the actually death rate will ever be revealed as its an admission of failure by the authorities. Between end Nov to Feb the virus travelled unchecked within Hubei, then to other parts of China and overseas. When you see China on TV etc its all gleaming cities - but a lot of China remains rural where people still use traditional communal latrines and have poor levels of social hygiene - a perfect storm for a virus like this. I would say that recent figures from China are likely to be relatively accurate as they reflect well in a "job well done" kind of way - but anything before that is a snapshot at best of what really went on in a few select city areas. I find it somewhat ironic that the new marketing plan from the Party is to "let China help save the world" - if only they had thought that way at the outset! I will take a look in more detail tomorrow. Cheers.
Everyone knows China is lying out of their arse to save face. Typical communist country
