Took a dip at the weeks end, any idea why?
......premieres at the cinemas on Monday and potentially could be the next 'Frozen'. Together with Christmas merchandise and the Peppa Pig spin offs over the festive period, fingers crossed we can get a leg up to the £2.60 level.
........was due to the announcement of the failed CBS/Viacom merger. ETO as well as a few other companies were mentioned in the next round of merger/takeover talk.
Any thoughts or news on todays rise? last time it did this had ITV chomping at the bit for a us.............
When withdrawing its last bid ITVs statement included: ITV continues to believe in the strategic logic and potential benefits of acquiring eOne but has a clear view of the value of the business, recognising that this value would need to be verified by appropriate due diligence. It appears this value is different to the level at which the Board of eOne would currently engage in a more formal process. ITVs SP has been on the wane of late so I would not be surprised to see them knocking on the door again sometime soon before this recovers. We know that at least one major shareholder supports a sale of the business so if the price is right there could be some action here.
Considering the last interim statement from ITV highlighting the continued growth and healthy cash generation, its somewhat of a surprise that its launching a £500m Eurobond issue. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure the company did the same thing before they bid for Talpa Media group. Should we be reading between the lines here ??
Who thinks that ITV are licking their lips and preparing for another assault? And at what price? 300p+? Still cheap IMHO
........only one thing.......its top up time !!!! I had a good read of the statement and the board changes announced, the headline figure sounds alarming but a lot of profit was moved 'internally' i.e. retained within the company's coffers for the company's expansion going forward. There may be a bit of negativity hanging over the stock for the next few days or so but what doesn't change is the pipeline of production and all the spin-offs going forward together with the growing Chinese market and as previously mentioned the merging of tv, media and mobile platforms. With all the big US tech companies sitting on mountains of cash and with the dollar in the favour, I don't envisage ETO to be an independent company for much longer. The failed bid by ITV was far off the mark in the Summer but the lofty valuations back then may have to revised by around 10% or so.
I sold on the bell at just under 244p. Just 2.6p EPS in H1...EBITDA etc way down due to huge Film investment. They claim full year performance will be in line with "management expectations". Are these the same as market expectations? Whatever, there's a lot of catching up to do in H2 which may or may not happen. Plus the longstanding CFO has resigned. ETO looks good for the long-term, but there may be a long period of drift (at best) and share price falls (at worst) if the market doesn't believe the H2 catch up. Best to protect profits etc if the story changes - which it has for the time being. Good luck all - I'll be back in (again!) if the risk/reward changes once more.
The first roll-out of PJ Masks licensing begins....toys, magazine, clothes etc: Http://worldscreen.com/tvkids/eone-secures-first-u-k-licensees-for-pj-masks/ "eOne Secures First U.K. Licensees for PJ Masks LONDON: Entertainment One (eOne) has signed the first U.K. partners for its PJ Masks licensing program. The rollout of the U.K. merchandise program will kick off with products from Flair's Just Play division, which will distribute the brand's master global toy line, starting in February 2017. The initial range will include plush, vehicles, action figures and dress-up items. The offering of PJ Masks U.K. merchandise will grow in fall and winter of next year as publishing and apparel items debut at mass market retail. Hachette has been appointed as the master publishing partner for the territory and is on board to produce a line of publishing formats. eOne has also inked a deal with Immediate Media for a stand-alone official PJ Masks four-weekly kids magazine. Redan will introduce PJ Masks content into its multi-brand Fun to Learn Favourites and Fun to Learn Friends magazines. The first U.K. apparel partner is Aykroyd TDP, which will launch kids' nightwear and underwear. eOne's PJ Masks licensing program in the U.K. will be aimed at boys aged 4 to 6. Katie Rollings, the head of U.K. licensing at Entertainment One, commented, "PJ Masks is quickly establishing a solid and engaged fan base across the country with viewers being drawn to the show's heroic characters, action-packed story lines and top-class animation. We've had a tremendous response to the property and we're now delighted to be welcoming a top-tier lineup of partners to the PJ Masks U.K. licensing program who we're confident will give young fans the best possible experience of the brand." Simon Hedge, the managing director of GP Flair, said, "We have an extensive product lineup that we believe will perfectly emulate the action and adventure that is part of every PJ Masks episode. On previewing the collection, our retailers were keen to launch as early [as] possible, hence the early spring release of the collection. To support this we are putting together a marketing strategy, targeting both boys and girls, that will ensure awareness of the toy lines at its height from the moment the toys hit the stores." The animated preschool series about three pajama-clad superheroes launched on the 24-hour Disney Junior channel in the U.K. in February. The show consistently ranks in the channel's top five rated series. The U.S. licensing program counts more than 40 partners. Merchandise began rolling out in North America this fall, including introductory toys from Just Play, publishing products from Simon & Schuster and apparel from Happy Threads. Merchandise is set to roll out across additional international territories starting next year."
Arrival is top of the box office, and all ETO's other films continue to do well: Http://www.screendaily.com/news/arrival-lands-top-of-the-uk-box-office/5111318.article?blocktitle=BOX-OFFICE&contentID=44588 "EONE Propelled by strong reviews, Arrival dethroned Doctor Strange to land top of the UK box office. eOne’s sci-fi soared with a strong non-final $3.63m (£2.92m) debut from its 561 sites, including $441,000 (£354,052) in previews. It’s worth noting that its Fri-Sun tally of $3.19m (£2.56m) would have also seen it chart top. That marks the best-ever UK opening for director Denis Villeneuve, surpassing Sicario’s $1.99m (£1.6m) from 434 sites, which included $274,000 (£219,737) in previews. Prisoners is currently Villeneuve’s best-ever UK performer with $9.1m (£7.3m). Arrival will hope to continue to prosper, despite Fantastic Beasts landing this Friday (November 18), to challenge that tally. Also for eOne, The Girl On The Train journeyed to an extra $595,000 (£477,110) for $28.5m (£22.9m) to date, surpassing Gone Girl’s final UK haul, while The Light Between Oceans added $282,000 (£226,094) for $1.73m (£1.39m) after two weeks. Currently playing in 217 sites, I, Daniel Blake grossed a further $216,000 (£173,174) for an impressive $3.17m (£2.54m) after four weeks in play. The BFG has now amassed $38m (£30.51m)."
Cheers 5eightsaccount. ETO's films continue to do well. Girl On The Train is now up to an "excellent" £22m, Ken Loach's I, Daniel Blake is above £2m (which is terrific for one of his films), whilst the new Light Between Oceans is at almost S1m after its first weekend, pretty good for what is a low budget film despite its two big stars: Http://www.screendaily.com/news/doctor-strange-retains-uk-box-office-lead/5111099.article?blocktitle=UK-BOX-OFFICE-NEWS&contentID=40105
Some great research posts Rivaldo keep them coming. I was heavily invested in ITV until last Summer when I sold the lot and still read the postings on there from time to time, it really is now just full of numbnut postings no real research and just everyone bickering about the share price falling from £2.80 odd last year to where it is now. Anyway, I like the business model here and with the rapid demand for media content for all platforms and the roll out of Peppa Pig, together with huge sales anticipated for their merchandise over the Christmas period, I think it can only be a matter of time before ETO finally lose their independence. This is a good article, although somewhat out of date but scroll down to the bottom and there are further articles for research which are of an interesting read:- http://kidscreen.com/2015/03/20/eone-taps-licensing-agents-for-peppa-in-eastern-europe/
Http://www.screendaily.com/news/doctor-strange-tops-trolls-at-uk-box-office/5110797.article?blocktitle=UK-BOX-OFFICE-NEWS&contentID=40105 "EONE The Girl On The Train fell only 39% with a $1.48m (£1.22m) fourth weekend as it crossed the £20m mark at the UK box office. eOne's adaptation is now up to a terrific $24.85m (£20.43m) and should overtake Gone Girl's $27.25m (£22.4m) haul by the end of its run. Also for eOne, I, Daniel Blake followed up its record-breaking opening with a $577,000 (£474,188) second weekend. That's a boost of 17% (excluding previews) likely thanks to an expansion to 214 sites, and Ken Loach's critically acclaimed drama has already grossed $1.61m (£1.33m) in the UK. The BFG and Supersonic stand at $37.02m (£30.43m) and $888,000 (£730,404), respectively."
Really can't see this remaining independent. Itv tried and failed to buy it on the cheap and given their woes I feel they may well be back . If not them though there are plenty of other buyers of content out there. Only doubt in my mind is that after itvs initial bid no other bidders stepped up when I expected a bidding war. Att buying time warner will hopefully focus value on etos library .
Ben & Holly are being launched in Canada this month - with merchandising to follow in Canada and "Greece, Russia and Latin America": Http://www.licensing.biz/news/read/eone-s-ben-holly-s-little-kingdom-heads-to-canada/044813 "The series will make its debut on October 28th on Canadian network, Treehouse. Entertainment One’s (eOne) pre-school series Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom is set to make its debut on Canadian network, Treehouse. Launching on October 28th at 8am, Treehouse has acquired seasons one and two of the series. “As Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom continues to gain a foothold in international territories, the confirmation of a broadcast partner in Canada further underpins its universal appeal,” said Monica Candiani, head of international sales at Entertainment One Family. “Treehouse gives us the perfect platform to launch the series to Canadian families and we look forward to working with them to make the show a big success there.” eOne is now preparing to roll out its consumer products programme for the brand in Canada, with merchandise already launching in Greece, Russia and Latin America."
Girl on the Train is still number one in the UK (impressively holding off Dan Brown's Inferno) - now up to an "excellent" $16.6m already. And The BFG and Supersonic continue to do well: Http://www.screendaily.com/news/the-girl-on-the-train-retains-uk-lead-as-miss-saigon-sings-to-record-opening/5110445.article?blocktitle=UK-BOX-OFFICE-NEWS&contentID=40105
Multiple new TV deals for yet another ETO character (this for a slightly older age group): Http://www.animationmagazine.net/tv/eone-inks-multiple-tv-deals-for-winston-steinburger/ "eOne Inks Multiple TV Deals for ‘Winston Steinburger’ Mercedes Milligan Oct 11th, 2016 Entertainment One (eOne) has secured sales for its new 2D animated comedy series Winston Steinburger and Sir Dudley Ding Dong (52 x 11) in multiple territories, assuring the show will hit TV screens in the UK, Poland, the Middle East and North Africa beginning this fall. The show will this year begin airing on POP in the UK in October and on Teletoon in Poland in December, with MBC Group debuting the show in MENA in September 2017. eOne is in advanced discussions with broadcasters in additional territories, including France, with details coming soon. Already on board for Winston Steinburger are co-production partners ABC3 (Australia) and Teletoon (Canada), plus Clan TVE (Spain) and BIGGS (Portugal). The series recently launched in Australia and will roll out in additional territories through autumn. Winston Steinburger and Sir Dudley Ding Dong, aimed at kids 6-12, follows the hilarious hijinks of thrill-seeking space kid named Winston Steinburger, his feline best friend, Sir Dudley, and an uptight alien, Hampton. Exploring the galaxy in a homemade space cruiser, the three astronomical amigos square off against bubbling planets, bad-breathed space-bandits, and their worst nemesis: Pam the Destroyer, a manic tween with an itchy trigger finger and a mega crush on Winston. eOne developed the series in collaboration with award-winning animation studio Sticky Pictures."
As well as Girl on the Train, the BFG is now over £30m in the UK alone - plus ETO also have the Oasis Supersonic film, which has also don well. This should be a bumper year for the Film division compared to last year: "EONE The Girl On The Train has derailed Bridget Jones’s Baby’s chances of a fourth week as the UK’s number one. eOne’s adaptation arrived in top spot thanks to a terrific $8.6m (£6.96m) debut, including $2.2m (£1.78m) in previews, from its 612 sites. It’s worth noting that its Fri-Sun tally of $6.4m (£5.17m) would have also seen it land top spot. The result means the film is already director Tate Taylor’s best-ever UK result, and is ahead of Gone Girl’s $5.1m (£4.1m) debut, including $641,000 (£516,509) in previews, from 549 sites. However, that film was a higher certificate at 18. Gone Girl went on a lengthy run to reach $27.8m (£22.4m) at the UK box office, and The Girl On The Train will be hoping for a similarly sustained run. Also for eOne, The BFG marched past the £30m mark with a $85,000 (£68,835) weekend taking it to $36.9m (£30.05m). Supersonic added $49,000 (£39,810) from 60 sites on its second weekend for $728,000 (£592,174) to date." www.screendaily.com/news/the-girl-on-the-train-arrives-in-top-spot-at-uk-box-office/5110215.article?blocktitle=LATEST-UK-BOX-OFFICE-NEWS&contentID=40073
ETO are very happy with Girl on the Train's weekend opening, with £6.9m already - the entire film's budget was only $45m, so with $24m banked in the US's opening weekend too this looks like being a hit: Http://thefancarpet.com/movie_news/entertainment-one-celebrates-tate-taylors-girl-train-pulls-uk-box-office-number-one/ "Entertainment One Celebrates Tate Taylor’s The Girl On The Train as it Pulls into the UK Box Office at Number One Entertainment One (eOne) is delighted to announce that THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN is number 1 at the UK box office grossing £6.9 million over its opening weekend including previews. This is a higher UK opening than the 3 biggest North American October releases of recent years: GRAVITY, THE MARTIAN and GONE GIRL. THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN also marks the biggest eOne opening for a non-sequel. Alex Hamilton, Managing Director Film EMEA says “This is a spectacular start! To beat such big movies on our opening weekend shows we’re travelling in very exalted company - audiences in the UK and Ireland have clearly embraced the film, and The Girl on the Train film adaptation looks set to replicate the runaway success of its great source material.""
ETO are launching Peppa in South Korea on TV and for product licensing - another 50m people set to succumb to Peppa: Http://worldscreen.com/tvkids/peppa-pig-launching-in-south-korea/ "Peppa Pig Launching in South Korea 22 hours ago LONDON: Entertainment One’s (eOne) preschool show Peppa Pig is debuting on South Korean animation channel CJ Tooniverse this month, coupled with the launch of a licensing program for the brand in the country. In addition to the October 10 launch on CJ Tooniverse, eOne is prepping a consumer products program for the brand, appointing Gideon as the master toy partner in South Korea. The company will distribute Character Options’ toy line, set to debut at retail this month. Additionally, eOne appointed YeaRim-I as publishing partner for the brand. YeaRim-I recently launched a bilingual series of Peppa Pig storybooks, with more slated to launch in the fourth quarter of the year. Peppa Pig merchandise is now available across Southeast Asia, including in Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as in several regions across China such as Hong Kong and Taiwan. eOne is gearing up for its first Peppa Pig brand conference in Asia, which will be hosted at the CJ E&M building on October 12 to network with potential licensees and trade partners. Dorothy Chan, the recently appointed head of Asia at Entertainment One Family, said, “We are delighted to be taking our first steps into the Korean market with Peppa Pig. Asia is a key strategic focus in the international expansion of Peppa Pig and by partnering with best-in-class broadcasters and licensing partners we are building a strong foundation for future growth.”"
Entertainment One will be unveiling a raft of opportunities for the hit preschool property, PJ Masks that shot to global fame having hit TV screens around the world earlier this year. http://www.licensing.biz/news/read/ble-2016-peppa-pig-and-pj-masks-head-eone-s-strongest-ever-pre-school-line-up/044712
The stronger dollar makes this company look even more inviting for our friends from across the pond !
Nice coverage in the Mail with brief comment from the CFO: Http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-3816368/Peppa-Pig-s-watched-6-billion-times-China-Porcine-superstar-drives-growth-Entertainment-One.html "Peppa Pig's been watched 6 billion times in China: Porcine superstar drives growth at Entertainment One Published: 21:56, 30 September 2016 Takeover target Entertainment One saw the value of its library of TV shows and films increase by 50 per cent as it predicted booming sales of its latest children's series. The firm, which fended off a bid from ITV last month, saw the value of its collection rise from $1billion to $1.5billion. Growth in the value was largely driven by the success of Peppa Pig, with Entertainment One this year upping its stake in the show by 35 per cent to 85 per cent. And it revealed the programme has become a hit in China, with Peppa watched 6bn times since it began airing a year ago. The firm also predicted increased profits from new hits such as PJ Masks, which features six children who turn into superheroes while dressed in their pyjamas. The company hopes the show could one day be as big as Peppa Pig, according to chief financial officer Giles Willits. He said: 'It's doing well and it's a great show. And we are getting great support from the channels that support us. Is it another Peppa Pig? Who knows.' The first series of PJ Masks is on Disney Junior while a second has been ordered for 2018."
