Financial press speculation suggests not, because if they coughed up what E-One is worth, i.e. more than £3/share, then ITV couldn't afford to pay out special divis as all the cash would be gone. Doesn't mean someone else won't try it on, or worst case the SP moves on up to that level anyhoo. C'mon Peppa !
surely itv will raise their offer here
HSBC showing 175p to but & 235p to sell. Whats that all about?
the weak £2.36 bid. What we need now is a bidding war with the big US media megaplayers looking for a $-£ bargain. Bring on £3 per share and I'll be voting Yeehaa !
ITV to bid £2.36 RNS
This is from the FT's market report tonight - firstly, 240p would be a laughable offer imo (start at 280p and work upwards), and secondly it seems someone's been paying attention to my post this morning about Livermore Partners :o)) Http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/077fcd52-5e54-11e6-bb77-a121aa8abd95.html#axzz4GrhtfSu3 "Film and TV studio Entertainment One jumped 9.9 per cent to 217.5p amid a revival of gossip that it could be a target for peers including ITV, which was rumoured in June to have been working on a 240p per share offer. People familiar with the companies once again played down speculation. Dealers also noted a mention for Entertainment One in Livermore Partners’ latest letter to investors. The activist hedge fund, which in May called for Entertainment One to strengthen its board or start returning cash, said in the letter that the company “seems to be listening to our ideas”." Also, news that ETO are to bring out a new Narnia film - this could be a global blockbuster if done well: "TriStar, Mark Gordon & eOne Revive ‘The Chronicles Of Narnia’ With ‘The Silver Chair’ Sony-based TriStar Pictures is joining The Mark Gordon Company, The C.S. Lewis Company, and Entertainment One (eOne) to make The Silver Chair. The film will be financed by TriStar, eOne and The Mark Gordon Company with Sony and eOne distributing the picture The previous films grossed a collective $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office" hTTp://deadline.com/2016/08/the-chronicles-of-narnia-the-silver-chair-tristar-mark-gordon-eone-david-magee-1201800919/
This is encouraging. The activist investors in ETO, Livermore Partners, had been pushing for improved cash flows, director additions etc - however, they've just stated in their Q2 report: Http://www.valuewalk.com/2016/08/livermore-partners-valeant-urbn/ "We are also searching thru the rubble in the London market for value opportunities given Brexit. We will report more as we push forward and see some very specific opportunities. Similar to our media investment Entertainment One (ETO.L). Which was up nicely in the Q and where Livermore now has a strong gain of over 20%. The company seems to be listening to our ideas so we will continue to monitor the situation." So they seem to be a lot happier with the situation now.
Comment this morning from ITV's CEO: Http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/8e3a4460-53ca-11e6-9664-e0bdc13c3bef.html#axzz4FguVHTJN "Mr Crozier said on Wednesday that ITV will “continue to invest in its content business through acquisitions, but refused to be drawn on details about the media company’s next takeover target. ITV is rumoured to be considering a bid for Entertainment One, the Toronto-based owner of the children’s cartoon franchise Peppa Pig, causing shares to rise more than 4 per cent this month. At the time, ITV said the company did not comment on rumours or speculation."
The BFG has done incredibly well in the UK on its first weekend: Http://www.screendaily.com/news/bfg-beats-star-trek-at-uk-box-office/5107005.article?blocktitle=UK-BOX-OFFICE-NEWS&contentID=40105 Also noteworthy that ETO's "Now You See Me 2 has now conjured up $7.5m (5.71m)" Deadline have BFG as the best ever non-sequel opening for ETO. It also pulled in 875k for Benelux: Http://deadline.com/2016/07/star-trek-beyond-lights-out-skiptrace-international-box-office-1201791877/ "THE BFG Disney, Steven Spielberg, Walden Medias family offering, The BFG had a rather large success this weekend as it edged out Star Trek Beyond from the No. 1 spot in the U.K. market where it is handled by eOne. The CGI film grabbed a total of $6.62M for the No. 1 spot. The film had a bigger debut in the U.K. than Paddington and it marks the best eOne opening for a non-sequel. It also marks the second biggest opening for a Dahl-adapted film in that country (only behind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and is also Spielbergs third biggest opening ever in the U.K. only behind Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and War of the Worlds." "In Benelux, reported grossed are $875K (eOne handles)"
Huge volume trading today, over 3 million shares traded. If it can stay above £2 for a few days then I think it will continue to climb (fingers crossed)
Nice - JP Morgan has today increased its target price to 236p (from 211p): Http://www.com-unik.info/entertainment-one-ltd-eto-price-target-raised-to-gbx-236/ Still far too low imo, but the upgrade should help get things going again.
The BFG marketing and licensing programme is revving up.... Http://worldscreen.com/tvkids/eone-preps-the-bfgs-european-licensing-program/ "eOne Preps The BFG’s European Licensing Program Joanna Padovano  LONDON: Ahead of the July 22 theatrical premiere of Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of The BFG, Entertainment One (eOne) has unveiled details for the film’s licensing program in Europe. eOne has tied up with a number of U.K. and European licensees for apparel, toys and games, stationery, home and gift items, and FMCG. Merchandise based on the movie will be sold by Amazon, Debenhams, Foyles bookshop, Hamleys, Harrods, John Lewis, Smyths and Toymaster. eOne is also collaborating with Spanish licensing agent Planeta Junior and DRi Licensing, the U.K. licensing agent for Quentin Blake’s illustrations of The BFG, to maximize retail presence in-store and secure cross-category FSDU displays. The BFG licensing program is aimed primarily at boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 12. Products are slated to begin rolling out next month. eOne has also forged promotional partnerships with Bensons for Beds, Pizza Hut Restaurants, Parcelforce Worldwide, Joe and Seph’s, Chiltern Railways and SSE Airtricity. “There’s tremendous excitement building up as we approach one of the summer’s biggest movie events,” said Hannah Mungo, the head of U.K. licensing at eOne. “We’ve secured a fantastic lineup of partners for The BFG movie who have created a comprehensive merchandise range that truly captures the magic of the movie. The strong network of promotional partnerships and above-the-line marketing campaign that eOne has engineered for the film’s release will deliver impact for our partners at retail and we look forward to seeing the products on shelf.” Meanwhile, a collaboration between eOne, Save the Children, Visitlondon.com and The Roald Dahl Literary Estate will see a new public art trail celebrate the release of The BFG around the U.K. from July 9 to August 31. “The BFG Dream Jar Trail” is an art installation that will feature the childhood dreams and aspirations of such celebrities as Spielberg, Mark Rylance, Niall Horan, Zoella, Maisie Williams and Quentin Blake in six-foot jars that will be auctioned after the trail closes. Three of the giant jars will be placed in Harrods with a window display of consumer products."
DFrenchie, only around 20% of ETO's revenues come from the UK. The rest come mainly from the US and Canada, and Europe. ETO will certainly hedge to some extent, but nevertheless, the likelihood is that the weak pound will benefit revenues in sterling terms quite nicely.
The consensus figures per Hemscott for this year are 19.14p EPS (with a 1.29p divi), and 22.75p EPS next year (with a 1.38p divi). Which makes ETO very, very good value imo. Even before any currency benefit. News of another new-ish ETO kids property starting to thrive: Http://kidscreen.com/2016/06/20/eones-winston-steinburger-goes-to-spain-portugal/ "eOne’s Winston Steinburger sells into Iberia Clan TVE in Spain and BIGGS in Portugal have acquired the first season of Winston Steinburger and Sir Dudley Ding Dong. By Elizabeth Foster June 20, 2016 Entertainment One (eOne) has sold its new 2D-animated comedy series Winston Steinburger and Sir Dudley Ding Dong. Clan TVE in Spain and pay-TV network BIGGS in Portugal have both acquired the first series of the show, and the latter will begin airing Winston Steinburger this fall. Aimed at kids ages six to 12, the 52 x 11-minute series follows the hijinks of Winston Steinburger and his feline best friend, Sir Dudley. It was developed in collaboration with animation studio Sticky Pictures and co-produced with broadcasters Teletoon Canada and ABC3 Australia. The toon made its international debut at MIPCOM in 2015 and will launch on ABC3 Australia this fall."
Entertainment One has greenlighted the production of the second season “PJ Masks.” The new episodes, produced eOne and Frog Box, in collaboration with broadcasters Disney Junior and France 5, will showcase new adventures and challenges for Catboy, Owlette and Gekko as they save the day from the show’s nighttime villains. The new season of “PJ Masks” is set to launch in fall 2018. http://www.licensemag.com/license-global/eone-greenlights-pj-masks-season-two
Since I last wrote the price has been falling but with a 160p support in place. It still seems cheap though, but whatever I think, the market isn't recognising it with an uptrend. Still watching.
Somewhere to put 1-1.5k ( when I get it) followed this for a while .. Have noticed the pj masks on telly so have my twins and they are hooked they still like Peppa but are starting to move on now there approaching 5.. Also peppa pig world is only down the road from me and I remember they built it for 6million expecting to recoup it in 5 years .. It took them 1!! It's a private family owned theme park but the toys and clothes fly out the door and not in miss rabbits helicopter either... It's still busy it's still well loved and not looking like running out of steam yet...
In absolute terms, a daily fall of 4.97% is big. However, it's trying to break through its 23.6% FIB and could break away from its 203p pivot high in late April. I'm watching.
I managed to get hold of the entire Shares Mag article: "EOne’s new Peppa push THE BENEFITS OF gaining a controlling stake in the Peppa Pig brand are starting to be realised by Entertainment One (ETO), claims chief financial officer Giles Willits. Last year the FTSE 250 constituent bought 70% of Peppa’s creator Astley Baker Davies, thereby increasing its stake in the Peppa brand rights from 50% to 85%. It did this to enable faster brand commercialisation decisions and avoid having to put ideas to a committee. Willits says a lot of conversations have now been initiated on potential branding opportunities, adding that many wouldn’t have been possible before it took a controlling stake. He refuses to disclose further details but points out that the company previously expressed a desire to make a Peppa Pig film. We wouldn’t be surprised to see additional Peppa theme parks on the back of the Paultons Park joint venture success near Southampton. Full year results (24 May) showed an improvement in free cash flow and a reduction in net debt – addressing two previous market concerns. We remain big fans at 177.8p."
Shares Mag today say they're "big fans" of ETO in a review of the results, noting the improved free cash flow and reduction in debt. In particular, there's an interview with the CEO where he notes that the acquisition of the larger stake in Peppa has been transformative. ETO can now enable faster brand commercialisation with many new branding opportunity conversations initiated. There are also hints at a Peppa Pig film, and also perhaps additional Peppa theme parks to follow the Paultons Park success.
Trades of near 0.5M shares and 1M shares gone through today!
Pretty decent considering (a) the down year for the Film division, and (b) the share price, which has factored in the worst. 19.4p adjusted EPS is right at the top of expectations, which range from 18.2p to 19.5p. The outlook seems very positive, still aiming at doubling the size of the business. Free cash flows increased nicely for the year, and overall net debt was £44m less at the year end, with all the rights issue monies being used on acquisitions etc. With Film looking much better this year, and Family and TV continuing to thrive, perhaps we can now see a route back to a 250p-300p share price.
PJ Masks is getting the Peppa treatment - the mighty Simon & Schuster have been signed up as the master publishing partner, with toys being launched this autumn in the USA: Http://worldscreen.com/tvkids/simon-schuster-on-board-eones-pj-masks/ "Simon & Schuster On Board eOne’s PJ Masks Sara Alessi 16 hours ago NEW YORK: Entertainment One (eOne) has named Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing as the master publishing partner for its animated preschool series PJ Masks in North America. The PJ Masks book collection will hit shelves this fall, bringing to life the adventures of the pajama-clad preschool superheroes Catboy, Gekko and Owlette. The collection from Simon & Schuster will include a mix of story, novelty and board books, as well as Ready-to-Read titles. The books join an introductory range of toys and playthings from master toy licensee Just Play, which will launch at retail across North America this fall before expanding into international markets in next year. In addition to the upcoming licensed products, a new PJ Masks website, a free app and music videos are all due to roll out this year. etc"
Very strange that with the results due in just over 2 weeks, the sp keeps descending. I hope that this is not an indicator.
