cmon everyone please use intelligence its twice as prevalent as flu.
It means a lot of the population have this already. Probably more so than the annual numbers from flu.
please my god no one here think 36000 cases 2500 dead.
I repeat no one is recorded at all unless you are a serious case or are the elite. We're probably at 5 million cases of this virus.
I hope everyone understands we're plebs.
Any pleb who goes to GP or hospital with mild symptoms will be told go home u pleb.
They will be told in no uncertain terms u need to self isolate a week as per official guidelines and will not be tested.
Therefore the spooky omg so many have died per case is bull****. Millions have this virus in the Uk.
wolfie, highest number of official cases there will be 1000 more for every single person on official figures.
The official figures are the people seriously affected by this virus or important people like the PM and a few of his m8s who also have it.
when I got virus symptoms I went through to this website and it told me to self isolate you dumb ass dont bug your GP (or words to that effect)
https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19
You wont be going on a cruise in June, when this lockdown is over we will then have flu season starting. Cruises wont be going anywhere. Yes people will be desperate for a holiday but will suggest they will fly.
Matt, believe me I'm not underestimating this virus at ALL. We live north of London, which as you know has had the highest no of cases.
We and virtually all our neighbours (mainly in our 60s) are in lockdown. We follow the Gvt guidelines.
By the way my Sister-in-Law lives in Colwyn Bay, she and her husband are in TOTAL lockdown i.e. they are not going out for ANYTHING.
no, I think you are seriously underestimating how prevalent this is everywhere all over the Uk.
I am in a tiny town in North Wales I know 2 other people who have had virus symptoms.
We're told by the NHS website not to go to GP, call anyone, self isolate for 7 days and if it worsens to only contact GP etc then. Millions have this in the Uk not the thousands.
Matt, you are of course entitled to your opinion, (maybe you're in a relatively safe place - Wales??), but I think you are SERIOUSLY underestimating the "killing power" of this virus.
"The H1N1 flu was also less contagious than the novel coronavirus. The basic reproduction number, also called the R-nought value, is the expected number of individuals who can catch the virus from a single infected person. For the 2009 H1N1 virus, the mean R-nought value was 1.46, according to a review published in the journal BMC Infectious Diseases. For the novel coronavirus, the R-nought value is estimated to be between 2 and 2.5, at the moment. "
no i am not I have had this virus and it is bad I would suggest 2-10 times worse than flu depending on time.
I know 2 others who have had it thus far.
All 3 of us not on official figures.
MatW, you are incorrect in so many respects it's almost scary!!
Good luck anyway.
Spanish flu killed more people than the war they were fighting no lockdown. I dare say it cruise liners still operating.
As a world we have gone girly, you are more likely to get run down by a car than dying from covid 19.
The official figures are like 0.1% of the total people who have it as everyone is told to self isolate unless it is serious and you go on official figures at that rate. Multiple figures by 1000 and you probably have the actual rate.
MatW, Covid19 is a different virus to h1n1. The 'experts' have said that a vaccine won't be available for at least 12 months. To think that the virus will disappear before we have the vaccination is risky IMO.
WolfieB, I agree. The accuracy and reliability of the tests is a big unknown at the moment.
UNless people have some sort of immunity...either through having recovered from CV or through a vaccination then they would be stupid to go on a cruise IMO. I doubt any insurance company would accept the risk and I would hope governments would advise them against it. Who has to pick up the bill when cruisers have to be repatriated?..HMG of course.
The cruise industry needs to mothball ALL ships until a vaccine is available...and reduce costs aggressively. I do hope the management(s) realise that.
it took H1n1 9-10 months to die out.
How is this starting china nov 2019 going to take in your eyes twice as long to die out?
Bald, people do not care about your assertions Carnival sold over half a million cruises in 2 weeks from early March.
Sure bookings are down but as soon as figures for this virus are falling bookings will increase.
If they tested people they are in business now not June 2021.
Health checks may become the norm for cruising in the medium term. Who knows? I have family in different parts of the US, historically staunch Republicans. They believe Trump has been good for the country, economy, shaking up a form of paralysis and hide out no thinking. But they are seriously concerned that he sees his electoral appeal as based on the economy, and that restricts his actions on corona virus, and welfare. But it is true to say he still commands support, there not being much in the way of competition. There is disquiet about what is being seen there as 'domestic bullying.'
Matt: Re "if a company tests you with cheap $1 test which reads if you have this virus within 10 minutes before a cruise."
You need to know that there are WILDLY different performances (in terms of % correctness) from the LARGE No of companies supplying these test kits. If (repeat IF) the $1 test is one of those who do not give a high (say >90% probability) of correctly identifying Covid19, then IMO its not worth having.
"if a company tests you with cheap $1 test which reads if you have this virus within 10 minutes before a cruise."
======================================================
MatW, even if you were tested negative you still might not be able to get insurance. Insurance companies wont want to accept the risk unless the premiums are massive, maybe not even then, they might just have a clause the excludes people who catch the virus. Personally I think the cruise industry will have to go into hybernation until a vaccine becomes available.
So a June 2020 cruise looks highly doubtful IMO. June 2021 hopefully!!
Raleigh, you might be lucky getting your July flight to USA cancelled BUT I suspect Trump will want things to get back to some sort of normality well before the November election (maybe that is questionable now!!). So Trump will be putting maximum pressure on people to get the economy going. Although he may still be wary of opening the borders too early. Depends on how soon America can get a grip on things....at the moment they are playing catch up....led by a buffoon who just wants to blame other people for his own incompetence (IMO).
if a company tests you with cheap $1 test which reads if you have this virus within 10 minutes before a cruise.
Would you consider it safer to go on the cruise.
While I agree in your case flying to America is a risk, Americans would scramble on a cruise that tested them because it would be safer than their local Walmart.
That may be, though I wonder when these cruisers booked. Individuals will have their own views. Carnival will have theirs, and perhaps the risk of putting to sea at an earlier stage is a greater risk to their business in the longer term. And there is the international element of being permitted let alone welcomed to consider. I have flights booked - the earliest to America in July. I hope it will be cancelled - I have no intention of taking it. My view may not be typical, though I believe it will resonate with many.
bald, they sold out all their June cruise member offers which they always advertise at up to 30% discounts.
people are booking this year go to carnival.com. sig up see you cant get any member benefit cos al cruises sold out etc.
MatW, I take it you haven't heard of a 'full stop' or a 'comma'. They would make your post much more decipherable IMO.
Apart from that - and if I understand your question(?) - it would be a brave person (of 'almost' any age) who goes on a cruise in June (this year) unless they have previously had coronaVirus and 'possibly' have some immunity. Very brave IMO.
But next year when a vaccination is 'hopefully' available then you can cruise to your hearts content. Prices should be good....bargains galore probably.
you have the odd people shouting death cruises and customers going is my cruise for June still ok im desperate to cruise and others going when will you be back I want to cruise.
