Derekr you won’t get support for your ideas on here as we all know it’s NOT down to BT but the regulator stripping BT of its investment money and handing it to self serving other operators.
Another loopy filtered lol
Derek - as pressure groups to force openreach into action ? Or actually delivering a service? Who / what ISP would be in the other end of the cables? I find this interesting
I have to admit I’m a little wary of the speed race and investment needed to achieve it, I have concerns around 5G for instance, I have doubts people will pay extra for 5G if 4G is already enough, so I apply similar thinking to fixed line, where current speeds serve most needs. High demand companies will just have to situate themselves where the capacity is, I don’t necessarily have issue with that, when compared to the cost of delivering high capacity to users who won’t use it ? If that makes sense?
Derek I'm fully aware of the technicalities. If you think IOT in the real sense is anytime soon you'll be disappointed. Not sure where you are in Norfolk but when visit family who live well outside Norwich you can dream multiple devices and watch UHD TV at the same time ona25 mb connection without issue. The point was 20- 60mb for the average household is fine.
The current fibfpre backbone is already in to most places, it's a case of expanding the network throughout. Remember higher speeds will come at a cost to consumers, hence BT always try and push the higher speed packages.
Looking at the so today, suggests the market reacted to news of champions league renewal nearly as badly as free broadband
Skier1 - because I pity you, here’s some help.
Anon3 - extreme right or left have lunacy in common, but in a civilised world, ignorance shouldn’t be allowed to attribute the wrongs of one to the other, by definition an understanding of both is important but for different reasons Most important of all the truth.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_views_of_Adolf_Hitler
In Hitler's mind, communism was a major enemy of Germany, an enemy he often mentions in Mein Kampf. During the trial for his involvement in the Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler claimed that his singular goal was to assist the German government in "fighting Marxism".[107] Marxism, Bolshevism, and communism were interchangeable terms for Hitler as evidenced by their use in Mein Kampf:
Doesn’t sound to keen on left wing politics to me.....
Go check it out. It is there, in writing, at the prestigious Royal Institute of International Affairs . Hitler said it himself. Nazis were Lefties ;-)
Never forget the Lefties have murdered over 100 million people in the past century... Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pot, Blair... The list is long. Much (much) longer than the Right.
Never trust a Lefty. They are egomaniac control-freaks who want to tell everyone how to run their lives.
Aus3009, while I sympathise with you view, you might want to look up the "political clock".
Ultra right wing thinking is not as far apart from ultra left as you might think.
Strange, but true.
Skier1 - I almost can’t stop laughing at your fake news. Adolf was ideologically opposite to communism. His hatred for all things communist lost him the war, when he turned his attention to starlin before finishing off us brits. That’s history for you, even if Nazi sympathisers want to try and rewrite it. I think that’s called an inconvenient truth.
I use 600mb(so the account suggests for download and upload ) Fibre Broadband when I am in Spain, and although it is generally OK most of the time ...the TV streaming still seems to falter a touch whenever it rains, for some reason, and the signal still doesnt bend round walls or through them !!...so you still need extra "boosters " in the same elec circuit run as the router, for the wifi to be sufficiently good
Hitler himself said, in a written speech, confirmed by the prestigious Royal Institute of International Affairs, in 1941, that “basically National Socialism and Marxism are the same”. Straight from the horse's mouth. The top guy. At the absolute peak of his power. Nazis were leftwing.
Schlemiel - My goodness you need to get yourself some help. Apart from the obvious Germany was governed by the right wing of politics pre-war. They added the word socialist party to fool stupid people. The other obvious part of your delusion is only one side of this is using 1930’s politics. “Will of the people” “enemies of the state” & such ridiculous lies and propaganda.
Commie Corbyn.
and you are ABSOLUTELY a f@@kwit
You lot are ABSOLUTELY clueless. Labour is a sinister Marxist insurgency you clueless idiots. Their desire IS THE CONTROL OF THE INTERNET and they can only achieve total control by taking it back under the control of Marxist Labour and the hard left union control if they achieve power
Labour's aim is to bring all media outlets under political control and that includes the net
Understand one thing. This Labour party IS NOT THE LABOUR PARTY. It is LABOUR in name only.
Wake up, you're being conned by the lure of the free-lunch..it's the classic tactic used by scum throughout the decades...Chavez tried this successfully with the Venezuelans and now that nation's people are living in an authoritarian nightmare...
This is akin to 1929 when the German's were conned by another hater of Capitalism and the jews
Lets take a step back and look at reality.
Will Labour win a big enough majority at the election to get this through? - Highly doubtful and even if by some miracle they do any attempt to nationalise the company would be tied up in red tape and the courts for years and probably last for a full parliamentary term which would mean the next Govt would / could scrap the deal.
Speaking as a traditional Labour supporter the party has no chance of a majority and up here in Scotland they'll be lucky to return 1 or 2 MPs. So relax.
Hi Chesh. Remember downloading a music track on dial up. Start and then leave to have evening meal , come back up and if you were lucky download complete lol. Heavily into cctv in the 80s and believe it or not systems were sending video over dial up ! Kids today don't know they are born lol
Just read your post jake.
and yes, first signed up at half meg I fink......... and that dial up........!
running c.18mb and can do what I need.............!
All the best (even stream TV, in a village, epic ;)
Ask Diane Abbott............. :) lol
All the best (more reason not to vote Labour )
Splitting hairs. I have exactly that and have 60mb broadband, how fast do you need. The way people are talking you would think 90% if the country have little more than dial up speeds. So back to the question what percen of locations have less than say 10mb ?
Ok now let's look at the reality. What oercenta have access to BB connected via copper to a nearby fibre cabinet? I can tell you it is much more than 10% . If people are going to make n argument they need to demonstrate they have more brain cells than the looney left!
Personally I want fuel prices to be 40p per litre (or less) so that I can afford to travel around the country and enjoy friendship, food, music, comedy, sport, and banter, (in short - life as it should be lived!). I would prefer Labour to promise a 70% reduction in the price of petrol rather than to promise free broadband at the expense of investors in BT (hardworking people are going to end up losing a large percentage of their pensions due to Corbyn's barmy ideas - how is that in keeping with the Labour ethos of a fairer society?).
Below are some thoughts about the potential impact of the distribution function of salaries (wages) on the economy.
If Bill Gates took 0.5% of his wealth to the Sainsburys in Ealing (on Melbourne Avenue) and randomly purchased items until he ran out of money how many items would be left in the supermarket for other people?
If Ma Huateng or Jack Ma spent 0.1% of their instantly available money (cash, cheque, or card) on purchasing £1 bars of chocolate how many could they purchase?
If Wayne Rooney went down to his local supermarket how many Cauliflowers would he be able to pay for and take home with him for a week's wages? How many transit vans would be needed to transport the cauliflowers if each van was only used once. Assuming the distance the cauliflowers were to be transported was 22 miles - how many litres of petrol would be needed?
Why has there been a supposed large increase in the number of dollar billionaires globally since the turn of the 21st century? What happened to government promises of financial stability?
" BT have failed to deliver so often and for so long they need something to stir them up big style."
I agree with you but they seem to have got stirred up now. For years all we could only get was 4-5Mbps- pathetic. They are now in the area and digging up roads and wiring up poles all over the place. In fact within few months of them telling us they were working in our street; we have been informed that we can get fibre now. I have placed the order and waiting to see what the delivery is like. So may be BT is on the roll
wow, just wow! looked like he got a bit caught out when asked about other BB providers, and what an answer, "we'll just take them over" - incredible rhetoric, what a dimwit!
and so much for the fairer society when everyone gets free BB whether you earn £1m a year or are on benefits - what a c**k, they are all over the place, haven't Labour been on about how unfair it is they all the elderly get free TV licences and heating subsidies rather than being means tested, now we all get free BB just like that - complete joke, I cannot believe it!
Best thing Corby and Ronald MacDonald can do is remove the incumbent security company managing the asylum they've just managed to steal the keys from.
My view is these clowns have assured the public that any vote for the ultra left Marxist goons will spell the end for the UK. Latest news is Labour are inviting Kim Jon Un over for trade talks with a view to him managing the Broadband infra rollout Lol.
The old saying give a monkey a gun springs to mind........
