Re Ukraine....you are 100% right. Putin wants two things. To stay in power and to further increase his personal wealth. Both are under threat with a Ukraine invasion and he knows it.
What is there to gain from an invasion of Ukraine ?
Answer. Nothing.
Does he really want to be bogged down in a multi year conflict destroying Russia through sanctions and bankruptcy, destroying the Russian billionaire Oligarch's wealth and their support for him just to occupy more peasant land whose only importance is a strategic Nato and EU expansionist possibility.
Putin already has control of the strategically important parts of the Ukrainian peasant land.
Putin would need 250,000 troops to invade, not 120,000. He is mugging the weak west through cunning and brinkmanship. He will be offered oncessions from the US and will gain something for nothing.
What happened to the days when no one negotiated with aggressors ?
Well, the west is weak, skint and more and more isolationist now. The US are no longer interested in being the world's policeman and the rest of the west are toothless without the US.
So Emerald, stop dreaming and hoping for conflict to gain some personal financial advantage. Its sad.
Russia is skint. It's economy is minor league and Putin is punching way above his weight. Good luck to him and Russia. Russia and Ukraine are backward, corrupt fake democracies and political fodder for the west.
Back on BP forum topic, shares may be manipulated short term as they always are, over and over again, conflicts come and go. Good luck to long term holders in BP.
Bon voyage to those who have sold out, your opinions are irrelevant and not required thanks.
Good night all.
Mark
EmeraldCarrot, Putin's a power hungry dictator, cold as ice, even his smiles look fake. But he'd be destroyed if he invades Ukraine, cut off completely.....And the Irish fishermen will catch them all in their nets !!
Emerald,
There is one simple reason why Russia will not do anything to upset the likes of BP.
BP and others have brought prosperity to many Russians, especially influential Russians, like they have done in places like Azerbaijan, Iraq etc.
And if there's one thing powerful people like more than power is money, lots of it.
Putin will NOT want to be the president that took Russia back to the Leonid Brezhnev era....
Make no mistake, there is a risk in this current situation, and it's all on Europe (that includes the UK).
The USA has very low risk, but looks good, when it comes to business (I'm sure they will make millions from arms sales)
I've sold some of my holdings in BP recently, just to hedge, you understand. I sleep easier at night now ......
mark.
Take it easy!
If it all goes off I'm sure no share will be safe in the short term.
Just seems to me Russia have a lot more than the West seems to admit to.
They do supply 30% of Europes gas. They are the 3rd biggest oil supplier in the world. They could nationalise all western assetts in Russis if they wanted to. Who could stop them?
Having said that Putin would have to be mad to invade Ukraine IMHO.
But maybe he is?
All IMHO.
EmeraldCarrot
You apologised for your deramping, negative narrative previously and now you're at in again especially since the share price has recovered in recent days.
BP can not be nationalised by Russia and you either know that or your a bigger fool than your posts demonstrate.
Russia needs BP for their staff professionalism, expertise and partnership. BP have been in partnership with Russia for decades. When Russia annexed the Crimea in 2014 BP was in partnership with Rosneft. They will continue to be whatever the outcome of sanctions or conflict.
So please pause your nonsense. You used to be a fairly balanced poster before you sold out your BP holding.
Why the bitter nonsense now you are no longer a share holder ???
Mark
If they are going to blow up/shoot/kill Ukrainian soldiers and citizens I doubt they will be concerned about money somehow. Anyway nationalising BP. Shell, Total etc.. assets in Russia and being the 3rd biggest oil suppplier in the entire world would help, would it not??
poland are still waiting for germany to pay their last gas bill.
Harmonica,
Take a look at how much gas Germany imports from Russia, maybe Poland as well.
Where else are they going to get this from?
EmeraldCarrots,
If the West stops taking Russian gas, then Russia will not receive Western foreign currencies.
What will the Russians use to pay for their imports and to meet their public spending budgets?
EmeraldCarrots,
If the West stops taking Russian gas, then Russia will not receive Western foreign currencies.
What will the russians
Emerald, before the US & Germany make an announcement like they have i.e. that they will pull the pipeline, they would have ensured 100% that other suppliers are on board to cover any shortfall. There will have been a great deal of behind the scenes promises & threats to other countries no doubt about it. The US are exceedingly good at both in my experience.
All looking good here fellow holders.
threatening to stop the Nord Stream gas pipe completion if Russia invade Ukraine. On the face of it that sounds good.
However Russia supplies 30% of all European gas and is the 3rd biggest oil supplier in the World.
And we are threatening to limit the mount of gas they sell us???? Does that not sound a bit.......... stupid?
I would have thought Russia would be threatening to cut the gas supply to Europe!
If Russia invade Ukraine and the Nord stream gas pipe is mothballed what's to stop Russia cutting the gas supply to Europe?
Maybe be it's...... AhHa!! They will threaten to cut the gas supply to us BUT we will get in FIRST and threated THEM!!! TAKE THAT YOU PESKY RUSSIANS!!! LOL!!!!!! Completely mad.
All IMHO.
