I think the drop in the pound today has supported the ANW price, as all my overseas based shares are up. Which is almost all my portfolio, happy days
Pleased to see the 450's again at last. Onwards and upwards.
I was in Lagos last week and very impressed by the city and the amount of commerical activity. Abuja is somewhat slower paced. The economy is fairly diversified, although oil revenues are significant and steady growth of 7% or so. They recently rebased their economy numbers and should now appear among the middle income countries in Africa. That has pros and cons. One of the pro's maybe capacilty for additional borrowing from IFI's. Having looked at the Ebola stuff, I am more relaxed about any implications for Nigeria. I'll perhaps have another look BRFI over the next few weeks.
stuzeeuk, I have spent some time checking out BRFI and decided today to put 15K stg in for the long haul.
On Thursday, General Prayuth was elected prime minister by a junta-appointed national assembly, whose members are mostly acting or retired soldiers and police. He has promised to hold elections by the end of 2015. With the protests that crippled parts of Bangkok over, consumer confidence in July hit an 11-month high. On Monday, the assembly rubber-stamped the junta's 2015 budget bill. But tourism, which accounts for about a 10th of Thailand's economy, is struggling: the number of foreign visitors in July fell 10.9 percent from a year earlier, according to data from the Department of Tourism.
haha yip too true, however they are normally quite steady, this one has been up and down more times than a yoyo. Today is the first time it has consolidated it gains. With the Government reasonably well established hopefully we will see visitor numbers increasing and in time industrial output back up.
For that reason I sometimes have to remind myself that Investment Trusts are not tracker funds
I guess investors in ANW are buying for the longer term and ignore the a daily movements of the SET. And selling based on better opportunities elsewhere or need for cash. I remain confident in ANW through political thick and thin - in other words the good health of the companies in the ANW portfolio. IMO the political and economic climate is improving within Thailand, and with Thaksin clan on the way out maybe internationally too.
This share appears to yoyo more and more everyday
confidence rises as Thai economy recovers http://www.pattayamail.com/business/special-report-consumer-confidence-rises-as-thai-economy-recovers-40280 fingers crossed
Guys, this one seems to be real roller coaster at the moment even intra day movements seem crazy, although I am not sure if its just the market makers playing with the buy and sell prices effecting the mid price ?. Has anyone here had a look at Blackrock Frontier Trust ? (BRFI). I was thinking of buying in, although given its exposure to Nigeria I will probably wait until after the Ebola outbreak is contained. Does anyone have any thoughts? It has a spread across Nigeria 9.7% Kuwait 9.3% Pakistan 6.1% Saudi Arabia 5.4% Bangladesh 5.3% Sri Lanka 5.0% Other Middle East 4.7% Romania 4.7% And sector split of Finance - General - 31.2% Energy - 18.2% Telecommunications - 14.5% Consumer Staples - 12.6% http://www.blackrock.co.uk/individual/prices-and-performance/investment-trusts/blackrock-frontiers-investment-trust
Its been a bumpy ride recently. but glad to end the day and week in positive territory
476p Net Asset Value, looks like there is still a pretty decent discount here. Figures crossed we see some buying
http://www.thedailystar.net/business/thailand-open-for-business-now-36105 Rice Tenders http://www.brecorder.com/agriculture-a-allied/183/1210254/ Will be interesting to see the outcome. In the short term the outlook appears pretty good for the thai ecnonomy, the question is if a long term political settlement is possible. I am positive in the short term, longer term looks more challeneging. Former Thailand PM Abhisit Vejjajiva hopeful post-coup reforms will lead to sustainable democracy http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-08-07/an-former-thai-pm-abhisit-hopeful-post-coup-reforms-will-lead-t/5654106
I assume the its a bloodbath across the whole market ?, as all my portfolio are down. Anyway looks like a decent set opf tourism numbers http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-31/thailand-s-june-preliminary-tourism-statistics-table-.html And inflation is slowing http://online.wsj.com/articles/thailand-inflation-slows-in-july-1406881412 Despite a bad day on the markets today. looks like the long term outlook is healthy, I am still confident
haha nice one, plenty of upside here. I was thinking of buying more. i think it will be bumpy over the next year or so, but bumpy is fine when your in the black :-)
435p - here we go stuzeeuk! I am in the money again :-)
A poor Indian crop would help re-establish Thailand as an exporter, and with the end of the failed subsidy, and nw government being established programme would hopefully help the economy overall http://in.reuters.com/article/2014/07/21/india-monsoon-thailand-rice-idINKBN0FQ03320140721
Thailand adopted a temporary constitution on Tuesday, taking its first step toward the slow return of electoral democracy after two months of military rule. But the charter's clauses allow the ruling junta to continue to hold substantial power even after an interim Cabinet and legislature take office. I hope this strategy is long term, as Thailand surely needs a long term political settlement and a more responsive and stable political system http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/07/22/thailand-army-government-enacts-temporary-constitution-to-pave-way-for-eventual/
I assume some profit taking.... other than that I cant see any real reason for the drop ... http://www.set.or.th/en/market/setindexchart.html
Cool, I'm luckily im still in profit. Long term I see this one up past 600p
I would be delighted with that, it would breakeven for me ... Cheers.
If there is continued peace in Bangkok lets hope growth is only round the corner.
Nice jump again today, looks like we are moving North! Happy days
Well done stuzeeuk, you timed that well! Nice sp spurt today, let's hope 400p is put behind us. ATB.
