What about the Telegraph review today of the DBX, that's got to be worth a few p on the share price IMO. JJ
Exactly...
Yup!
Although making an F1 engine is at least a 3 year project.... and monumentally expensive.
Well.... unless they transfer Mercedes IP, and that would mean merging HPP too.
Pretender - I have heard similar rumours too - good informative post
There are so many ways of looking at this.
Merc as an automotive company need to get greener on engines, AMG won’t buy into this as hence Tobias storming out of a Merc meeting when told to go to screaming 4 pots and new he’s at Aston.
Daimler own Merc and can spin off AMG back to an independent,
The Merc racing team can continue or be sold off.
Merge Aston and AMG , Toto runs the Aston works team with amg engines, and thEn supply all or there Merc engine customers in F1. Daimler would have a massive stake in the AM/AMG company, Toto who has 40millof his own in AM would run the F1 team protecting his own ROI in the process
My most out there scenario..... is Stroll selling Racing Point to Mazepin, and buying out Mercedes F1 together with Wolff - with increased shareholding of AML for Daimler as part of the deal. Which would mean leveraging the current Mercedes F1 team branded as Aston Martin instead - and inheriting Hamilton too.
That actually isn't that crazy a possibility ;o)
Indeed... is it why MercedesF1 are delaying signing up for the 2022 season!?
I've been banging on about similar for a few months aye.... there is for sure SOMETHING going on!
We probably can't actually fathom what exactly.
But there is too much going on with Mercedes F1, Racing Point, Wolff, Andy Cowell.... throw into account bargain chips of increased shareholding for Daimler in AML, Daimler wanting Vettel with their engine, and Mazepin perhaps looking too buy a team for his F2 driver son. Almost anything is possible in that mix!
It is well rumoured that Daimler may have had enough of F1- they've achieved far more than they could ever have dreamt possible - and there becomes a point where the bean counters look at the ROI and see it declining. All marketing incentives (after all, that's what F1 is) have a planned shelf life. Being able to sell the team on at a huge profit is a massive bonus - especially considering the financial landscape for Daimler right now.
Mercedes High Performance Powertrains is a separate, and profitable company though. Mercedes would still get huge exposure from F1 just supplying engines. And indeed, the long term lucrative deals they have with several teams, including McLaren now, they wouldn't just walk away from. Aston Martin making it a true works F1 team is a big leap from what is actually planned to start with.... becoming an F1 engine manufacturer, no matter who is involved in the development, is a massive, massive ask.
Personally I believe that Cowell will pop up developing engines for AML road cars - possibly with an AMG link yup. Because as the tightening emissions regs are introduced shortly - Daimler will struggle to be able to create a V8 power unit within those regs. Aston Martin are outside many of these regs due to much lower volume....
@dimithegreek, Could I borrow your time machine for an hour please!

Hamilton will stay with Mercedes he wants to be the best ever
Not sure if any of you have seen me post a theory that Aston Martin and AMG would merge, then not long after Aston Martin would become a works team with Aston AMG supplying engines as Merc do now, I also reckoned it would be as Merc withdrew from F1 and Toto wouldn’t have a job but could run AM/AMG works F1 team.
Merc will only commit to a 12 month Concorde agreement and I’ve just seen this
