Have been watching this company for quite a while - nothing to do with the fact I used to live in Ashtead! Took the plunge last week having some cash available. Would buy more if other stocks can be sold on Monday. a big if unfortunately.
Today's Evening Standard Business interview makes interesting reading; Ashtead chief Geoff Drabble on beating the doubts to become a FTSE 100 giant - one of the biggest companies you've probably never heard of !
*us
Hey FTSE - calm down sir. Just started posting on the Board and already throwing your weight around? many of u have been here for years and 3 or 4 bagged our money, so might do to lay off the insults perhaps?
Oh dear! Someone touched a nerve did they?
Had a few bob in AHT Ashtead as per yesterdays notes/post. Forward P/E to 2019 of just over 16 looks cheap to me. I suspect that FtseMajor is a joker who writes about many shares on different boards under differing aliases and always with great exuberance?
£30 by next month? Poppycock sir!
782 was an intra-day glitch on 19 March, and the stock closed above 10 that day. Actual low was above 9.
Their year low is 782. So they've nearly doubled. Good trading update today. AHT storming ahead. Will it all end in tears come the results in June?
They've gone from 9 to 13 - not really a doubling is it?
Matt: MCRO could do well if it manages to turn H.P. around, especially now Elliot Investors have got on board. Trouble is as you say they have already nearly doubled from their low. As for retailers I have had my fingers burnt too often there, but good luck anyway
I got 22.10. Used it to buy SDRY(down 18% today). I think MCRO also worth a look (though it up from it's bottom). As ever, DYOR though!
Sorry Ronjoe. Don't have a link as I got the info. from Hargreaves Lansdown. Hope you got a good price if you sold Matt. I tend to top slice most years then buy back in my ISA when they dip to avoid the CGT. I've held AHT for 15 years. So what are these "interesting opportunities"?
I'm taking some profits here - only top slicing 10% of my holding, but at 15x earnings, this is closer to fair value than it's been for a while, and I'm seeing some interesting opportunities elsewhere to reinvest the proceeds. GLA.
Ftsemajor and dubious do you have a link to the ML comments.
I'd say it's been gong up quite a lot - back to all time high!!
Shares rising today on the back of BoA Merrill Lynch's comments on Friday that Ashtead has particular value as it "has very little to do" with the strength of the UK economy.
Sorry Matt. Forget it. I allowed myself to be irritated by stuff I was reading on another chat page. It's good that AHT is not slavishly following the likes of CAT and URI which have fallen heavily in the last 3 months. Long may it continue. I guess as the share price doesn't seem to be going anywhere at the moment there's not a lot to write about.
Hey Dubs - Ok, I'm pretty confused about your message below mate. You want to clarify what you meant?
Strange, dont know why you felt the need to moan about another forum and its contributors on here.......dont thank me, as I assume Im one of the contributors that you made a cowardly pop at. DYOR DD
I really can't be bothered Disco, but thanks for the link. I just scan the business pages for info.
dubious If its the site I post regularly on then may I suggest you post up your thoughts on their as per your post on here!. The growth project 2021: http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/195331/ashtead-group-predicts-full-year-results-in-line-with-expectations-as-it-prepares-investor-event-195331.html DD
If you want more noise Matt you could put the cat among the pigeons on a competing web site's chat page where most posters seem to kowtow to one who blinds the rest with garbage.
Trading statement today: annual profit will be in line with expectations, hence the price fall! However most of the trades seem to be buys so onwards and upwards. There is a 2 day presentation in New York today focusing on Sunbelt, starting at 3pm our time which can be viewed on line.
