I think at times there is a bit of confusion about what Ricardo do and the size of the company. Ricardo are niche specialist engineers who are very good at getting the best out of other people's systems and in integrating complex systems so that they work well together. The company has a market cap that is only about 60% of AFCs, so they are not a big company. In comparison, ABB is a global behemoth, some 128 times the size of AFC, or 216 times the size of Ricardo. Both companies are good partners for AFC to be working with, but each in very different ways.
Perhaps there is a system in the AFC company car park .....surely someone on the BODs has an EV to charge .....or for potential customers to trial the system .
I wouldn’t get too carried away arguing about fuel cells for ships and trains, AFC can’t even get them in car parks yet !
Ricardo also offer services to the MoD, specifically the Navy, which I believe has some ships.

Yes ammonia is the obvious fuel for marine applications. BUT you need to be marine certified to get ANY kind of equipment on a ship.
Ricardo are not a marine specialist/certified engineer. Their specialisation is automotive. I am sure you can tell the difference. .........or have you had a drink.

You enter the marine sector with someone who builds marine engines. You cant just wander in and......
Even shipbuilders who wanted to get inot hydrogen (ammonia) propulsion will expect and established (and certified) marine engine sbuilder to supply the kit.
Marine is a highly regulated industry and all hardware (and software on safety critical systems) has to be certified by someone like DNV (Det Norske Veritas) or Lloyds, otherwise they cannot get insurance -so will not be purchased for use in a marine environment.
Shipboard marine applications arespecial and you get only get in on the back of an established player.
I would imagine ABB wouldn’t put all their eggs in one fuel cell basket either.

Electrical engineering group ABB is researching new systems for ship propulsion. This will involve fuel cells that use hydrogen or are electrically powered. Environmentalists and the World Bank see this as the solution to finally making shipping more environmentally friendly. ABB expects rapid progress in the development.
