That's a shame. I couldn't access it to check. My apologies
That article is dated March 2011

I believe VAL is in the spotlight in The Sunday Times in the 'In The Know' section :-) That should spice upMonday !!
I agree but with gold tipped to hit 3k per ounce and PUR due to pour before xmas and with a cheap SP at only £1.11 it was £1.36 a couple of weeks ago. it will cost them $800 leaving them a fantastic profit margin with the amount of gold in the ground due to their drilling reports who know it could be the next Kirkland gold :) even Warren Buffet has now invested in gold something he said he would never do
Spiros, I will have a gander, thanks for the tip
I can’t help but think, you need to own some physical gold to, as if we were to have a global meltdown it would really be worth something?
oldbaldy if you are looking into gold look at pure gold mining in canada they are fully funded with excellent drilling results they are due to have their first pour before Christmas and then it will fly. They had a set back last week with a forest fire witch it had to be evacuated hence the price drop. I got in at 60p back in Aprill and have nearly doubled my stake:) just a sugestion DYOR in the mean time im happy to be on board here as well.
Doog, I’ve always been aware of the CGT allowance, I just didn’t really think I would have such a problem, but now it’s getting close to being one, I’ve always been a bit last minute dot com lol
I’m looking into a gold pension at the moment, as I’m convinced it’s going to go to at least £3k per Troy oz during this recession, and silver possibly £40-50 per oz but you can’t hold silver in a pension, Shame as I Believe it has the potential to rise to £100 per oz in the next 4 years ?
:)
If all your new investments are in a SIPP or Isa you won't have to pay capital gains.
If your current Val investment soars you could take some profit this year and some next thereby getting two lots of allowance.
You would need financial advise but it would be a good problem to have.
Good luck all.
Colbaltblue, thanks for your post, my stocks and shares isa is “dormant” and I can’t reactivate it on line, so I will ring am on Monday
I’m getting the wife to open an account and we will top up there for now, also she has an old Scottish widows pension, so we are going to look at transferring to a sipp then buy some more Val shares from there
I have a feeling that this week we are going to rise very quickly :)
oldbaldy, bear in mind a couple of things. The only way you can protect these golden tickets is to get them into a stocks & shares ISA but you have to think of the spread when the transaction is done. Your broker will have to sell at the bid and buy at the offer. This could cost you a considerable sum depending on the spread and the number of shares you have plus two broker fees for the transaction. You cannot simply transfer the holding into the protection of an ISA without selling them first (for obvious reasons if you think about it)
If the SP is moving rapidly, trying to get the timing right could be tricky and I would prefer to have my broker actually do the deal whilst I was on the phone. I wouldn't use an automated system to carry it out. You also have to consider any CGT you might have made prior to shielding the shares in an ISA.
It's a bit complicated getting rich isn't it?

Always good when you can save money from the tax man, i'm no expert, oldbaldy, but as Minnissage has posted and with the same broker i believe they will sell your existing shares for a nominal fee and re purchase them in your isa. You may be liable for the capital gains tax on the original shares however i believe the tax free allowance for the present financial year is £12,300. Hope that helps. I have a feeling the sp is going to move in a big way from next week onwards so makes sense to have them all in a tax free isa
Minnissage, thanks for that
If I had 8a11s of steel I could transfer my personal pension pot to a sipp and buy loads of Val shares and potentially walk away with millions :)
You will need to bed and ISA them Oldbaldy which you broker will do for you on request
Vicjain, The wife is setting up my stocks and shares isa this afternoon, my top up will be made there
The question is do you know if I can transfer Val shares from my dealing account to the isa dealing account without having to sell and re - buy them?
When I purchase Val shares 9 years ago i was a total novice, still am really :) i only invested 1k for a bit of fun, now it’s a fairly serious chunk of money, and the prospect of paying CGT is one I don’t relish
Your post has prompted me to do something about it, so thanks :)
I hold about 180k shares at about 9p average. Not making same mistake again :-)
Jungmana, you have 16k to invest here, and that could be worth £700k :)
I know the feeling. I sold GGP at 1p a few of years back getting fed up with the BOD and seemingly no good news at the time. I had a sizeable amount as well......:(...That said wont make the same mistake with Val. It has just started the big move up with so much big news so close now. Previously I was thinking to top slice a few around the 30p mark, then changed my mind thinking 50p for a top slice but now i really think this will move to a much higher figure on one positive drug result alone but with the other drugs and the new strategy in place, the sp has to be worth £s imo and in a fairly short span of time imo
I sold my 8ks investment into SNG in march at 100% profit thinking I made good money. If I had held that 8k would be worth about 160k today.
Been kicking myself for the last last 4 weeks.
Hold them in an ISA and no tax to pay.....even better....:)
Just worked out the capital gains tax on that, sill it would be a lovely problem to have :)
I really don’t mind £6.46 honest! :))
646p and I will tender my resignation in. Realistically is a possibility this year with 4 drugs being developed.
Just look at the statements from shrewd, successful wealthy investors like Slater and that shows the potential here.
Oldbaldy. To really do an SNG type rise and have an equivalent MCap the VAL SP would be £6.46 based on closing the current disparity.
However, £2.36 would do just fine.
