The Mrs is badgering me to buy her a new I phone 11 Pro. Do I reinvest the Tesco SD back into Tesco, or save myself from a premature death ?? lol
Having a 1000 shares in a company at £1 per share is the same as 500 shares at £2 per share
after a 1 for 2 consolidation. You would not be losing any shareholding.

Mike You put it clearly and lucidly. "Simples" - as meerkat Auto Sergia says. Is it something good you are taking ?

''given me back after they had reduced my actual shareholding!''
This is getting boring. They did not reduce your shareholding. They consolidated shares.
They returned money to shareholders which wasn't a normal interim or final dividend, which reduced the market cap.
They will also return money held in Tesco to shareholders via the final dividend.
Tesco's managements "magical formula " for future success is sending me so so dizzy. The last time I felt this unwell was as a kid on a fairground waltzer that went out of control. Do you think they are playing mind games just to liven up a dull part of the calender year? lol
Lots of big buys late on ..
Was going to be greedy and simply take the £1300 SD that wasnt and buy something else, maybe that Christopher Ward watch I have been eyeing up for a while, then realised it was mostly my own money TSCO had given me back after they had reduced my actual shareholding!! So now am considering that at 230p its worth taking the SD as shares and waiting for a rebound and/or future dividends on a bigger holding (by about 600 shares). If the SP rises back towards 240p then may have a rethink, but anyone want to play the game of forecasting what the price will be by Wednesday next week when I have to elect if I take cash or shares....... am sure many others are thinking the same thing.

yes it was a market down day to compound things on top of XD's
2.29 Strewth never figured that that quick....i just dont trust this share

Yes, I bought back the amount of shares I "lost" after the 15-for-19 consolidation, which I planned to do anyway with the special dividend when it's paid next Friday. So I'm back to my original number of shares. Net result is the average price on 15,000 shares has moved from about 153p to 195p but, like you say, now own a higher percentage of the share capital.
It was the timing of re-investing the SD that I became a bit pre-occupied with. Bit the bullet on today's drop which I hope is partly due to the current 100-odd points drop in the FTSE 100.

I appreciate the xd effect, but the drops are more than I would have expected.
I've made my choices, and will wait for the reversals
At the current price of 230p if I reinvest the special div. in TSCO shares I end up with more shares than I had last Friday and 'own a larger share of the company. This is working well at this minute. In fact as I have some cash in my ISA it allows me to anticipate the div. Well done TSCO. JJ
XD day today
which includes BP and Glaxo amongst them
I'm getting battered everywhere today. Am I unlucky or just a bad stock picker?
Barclays, BP, Tesco, Glaxo and more.
Let's wait and see.

Great minds (or not) think alike - back in at 231.1
It just seems too cheap at this level - at a loss to understand these market forces!!
more at 231.5p
What when she’s getting £7,500 tax free? Her percentage ownership of Tesco is exactly the same as it was before the special dividend. The share price is where she will win or lose.
iapr
I imagine you meant to get back to your original share count, which would give you a greater percentage of Tesco than you had before. I did similar but at a higher price level.
yes there is a wall of money coming, that shareholders will have to find a new home for.

I've done exactly the same, so!d last week (pre exdiv) at 246.5 so I'm fairly happy considering I was eyeing it up at 239 yesterday .. I think it could go lower but it's a case of being happy with the price your in at .. I've got caught out being greedy before .. I had a few quotes rejected before a successful buy, I wonder why? I'm with IG ..
I'm better of than if id stayed in for the dividend ..
Good luck ..
There are many ftse 100 companies that are suffering the same fate as tesco .. some started a month ago. A lot of value shares. I will wait for end of week before buying any tesco share.
I've just bought at 231.8p to restore my original holding in the hope that once the SD arrives in people's accounts a lot will re-invest and push the price back up. Hoping I don't regret it, time will tell :-)
GLA
Easy 10 percent in a week
Don't like to have an uneven amount of shares as I currently have in my ISA, but haven't sufficient cash in the isa today to make a further purchase.
May contemplate a further purchase outside ISA if this drift continues.
When you do the maths, there is absolutely no advantage to the SP decline except perhaps a that re-investing the dividend will give you more shares. The special divi and 15 for 19 shares evens itself out and in theory, the SP reduction should have been zero. Must be market forces at work.
It is good to see the share price declining, hope for it to continue a while longer. Will reinvest the special dividend and, at these prices, may become better off than pre special dividend and consolidation.
