Is that your conclusion? Because the Saudis sold their oil for $9/barrel ... ~insert your blahblah here~.
'They were selling for $9/barrel just now'
Ouch. Thats really going to hurt those paying for our hedges. TLW could spike again.
They were selling for $9/barrel just now. Draw your conclusion.
saudi are not playing any games. the only nation that didnt agree to a deal at the previous opec meeting was russia
The saudis are playing a game here. To delay pricing means they are going to price lower than everyone else no matter what the outcome. Only way to win marketshare.
Will the meeting conclude before 4.30pm here?
Could be an explosive end to the day.
He didn't have to discuss the obvious, rigs down 31 in Permian last week and I think 20 the week before. 13mbod number by EIA was predictive, actual going to be much lower and dropping.
If the meeting goes ahead on Thursday there will be a long wait until the response is seen as we are closed for Easter weekend.
It;s not just about the delayed meeting. Trump did not even talk about cuts in his meeting with US oil execs. I think the market will be disappointed with that.
The US imported 368kbod from SA last week, I think the threat is against future imports in event of killing too much shale. So a deterrent. Not sure if US is being boxed into a corner or not, Russia will be happy enough with oil in 40,s. That is still the end of shale.
It wouldn’t help. Threatening tariffs, withdrawing military support in KSA etc are just negotiating cards that the US have in their pocket. It’s all posturing as they each try to get the best deal they can and try to force the other participants to cut more than they want to.
"Trump said on Saturday he would impose tariffs on crude imports if he has to "protect" U.S. energy workers..."
https://uk.investing.com/news/commodities-news/trump-says-if-he-has-to-put-tariffs-on-oil-imports-to-protect-energy-workers-he-will-2089447
Not sure how that would help.
Amen oldtimer, Friday to be seen as an example of recovery ability once oil stabilized and CV moving from front to rear view
clearly nothing sinister about the delay and shold be seen as a clear positive
Yes. She correctly called that the meeting would be pushed back to Thursday the 9th before it was actually announced and now she’s confirming it’s going ahead on the 9th as some commentators are still saying it won’t happen due to friction between Russia and KSA and a supposed unwillingness from the US to participate in any cut strategy.
That now looks like old news and the meeting will definitely go ahead on Thursday 9th. The rest is posturing, bluff, face saving and taking positions during ongoing negotiations which are undoubtedly now taking place in the background and will be for the next few days IMO. GLA.
Yes, she seems to know her stuff.
."The opec plus meeting might be pushed back to 9 April to allow more time for other producers outside the group to join in "
