Thanks Jazz, That sounds about right. Glad one of us was paying attention;)
S2020.. Alastair Protheroe talked about this with Jazz and I at the CMD. I seem to remember him saying that due to various parts of the trucks/buses being made by different companies for other companies that it was not practical to put DMS in as a factory fitted box so likely as you suggest Guardian would be fitted as a after market.
Jazz is that your recollection ?
Hi JC and to add to the discussion above:
In relation to coaches, AP stated that the parts are put together by the coach builders, and installed prior to delivery to the customer. Currently, and due to the issue of building coaches like a "meccano" set or lego with different parts, the strategy is to install once the coach is put together rather than at maintenance/ service intervals where they are off the road. AP suggested that assembly line installation would be impractical until there is a common assembly line design which is unlikely for the foreseeable future.
Whilst we discussion centred on coaches, I'm don't recall cabin design for trucks which are assembly line products and potentially could be installed ....So I am erring that AP was mentioning coaches as he referenced stagecoach etc.

My eyesight doesn't do me justice, or rather it's selective. Don't know whether DMS would help!
Always nice to have a tailwind guiding and pushing us along! As Mark Slater said in one of his interviews: he always likes to invest in companies that have a tailwind, as no matter what the econonic landscape you know that you're safe!
Thanks JC, I wonder how they will cope with the volume.
Paul mentioned the Chip for next gen fleet in his videos.

It was a sarcastic shame, hence the wink ?? by the time it comes around a lot of fleets will already be installed no doubt. Like national express.
It will get the transport managers looking for solutions now so good awareness already.
JC
Thanks for that. Terry, maybe not such a shame, the trucks etc will still need it as if it were fitted at factory level although the logistics will be challenging I would imagine.
But the law is the law and don't let anybody forget that!
John
Thats what you said in the pub after from conversations on our debrief. Due to the way the industry mainly works. Must be some companies that can do factory but most not. Shame that ;)
'However, the EU mandate includes all new Trucks and Buses also, how do the truck OEMs (of which Daimler is the largest ) comply, I have heard no mention of a Truck or Bus OEM tender or do they all fit Guardian to new trucks and buses ?'

Sch, its the opening line of The Big Short , the main characters in big short were right, perhaps early but right in the end

NCAP had cars covered anyway as most OEMs want a 5 star rating, so we had the carrot anyway and this is more stick. I'm still amazed we have regulation helping us before there is one car sold in europe with our tech.
So cars I understand and OEM's will make RFQ wider and that all makes sense.

Proper patience needed now. The EU news is a game changer so let events now take their natural course. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw similar rules being issued by other jurisdictions now that the EU have set the direction of travel for DMS. It's simple. If Automakers want to sell their cars across the EU then they'll need install DMS. This alone will encourage non-European based car-makers to install as well to adhere to these rules to gain market access
Unless I'm going mad, surely breakeven/cash generation is our only hope to get the sp back to a credible level?
Semicast entering down the rabbit-hole with a cryptic riddle of such complexity that even I've no idea if it's positive or negative!
What we need is yet another piece of genius journalism from none other than Safestocks! That'll get em going!
I am hoping that PM has taken on board the basic mantra that it is always best to over deliver & under promise ( than vice versa) ,which he discovered following his early optimism regarding an Aviation deal.Nothing is guaranteed but those present at the CMD appear to be persuaded that a deal (or two ) is/are coming over the next month or two-thereby endorsing Aviation as the viable third arm of our business.
We all agree that we need news of major contract news regarding Auto & VW,Volvo & Toyota would be a great start but the timescales are out of our control but if our really is a superior product & our pricing is pragmatic ,there must be a good chance of our success. There is also the possibility of further expansions of existing contracts if all new cars in Europe will have to be compliant by 2022
It was suggested a year or two ago that Fleet may be surplus to requirements & should be sold, together with our 24x7 monitoring facility & my view has always been that Fleet is an essential part of our business plan.Following Fridays announcement Fleet could start growing substantially if we can sign deals with manufacturers. It would be great to win Volvo for cars but the significance of a deal to supply Volvo commercial & have Guardian installed at the factory ( rather than retro fit) could in itself be a game changer.Fridays news will hopefully force manufacturers off the fence & deals will soon be announced
Been mulling over the last couple of weeks of media / regulation announcements and seems a couple of potential major catalysts have been announced with no impact on share price :
- Breakeven brought forward - There needs to be certainty for market to accept breakeven and it's still a way away.
- Regulations. - already flagged to market so muted volume reaction and still couple of years away from cars rolling off line.
Whats left:
- Fleet wins - current scale doesn't seem to be moving the needle
- Auto wins - long suspected that they if they continue at current size they won't have a sustainable SP impact
- Aviation - personally still struggling with this making a significant short term impact
That leaves IP, which I do believe is a game changer. Let's hope PMC delivers.
Canberra - barely a budge in SP - Stockholm up 3%....hmmm.
One day doesn't make a summer but I feel we still have structural issues with SEE share holders, which will provide headwinds to sp appreciation - too many holders underwater hence sell into strength - shares in issue (basic supply demand) SEYE have a small issue. I know about free float but questioning what's holding back the sp given last couple of weeks announcements.
Btw - where are GB2 and KK....
