Hi Ipad
The Car-T programme followed just 2 patients out of two concurrent trials. The first images were dated as 2017 and the programme ended by showing many other patients from those two trails who were still in remission, one after 25 months.
Sadly the documentary makers chose to film the journey of two wonderful people where Car-T wasn't the magical cure.
From the information given there were many patients where the outcome was very much better.
It's was very brave of them both to be filmed while enduring that treatment.
I'm sure it was an eye opener for most who watched it certainly was for me.
Chester
ipad, thinking of the funding aspect of such a trial, I think it would help cover the costs of the patients treatment too, and I just wonder how far George in the Melanoma documentary would have got without their assistance...................IMHO not as far as James Allison, the laborities and America. Must have cost a small fortune.
OK it may be towards the end of the week since l am very busy at the moment, but I promise I will set the ball rolling with a post on the moditope targets.
C7. Yes I did see the melanoma film.
It makes you wonder how many of these "trials" are being filmed; given the cost of filming, taking about a year, getting the patient, his family and the doctors etc to agree to being interviewed, and not knowing the result until the end. And presumably there will be a follow up to the melanoma film. (Sadly not the other one).
Maybe a Scancell trial is being film right now !
Ipad, morning buddy. Well i knew from my oncologist he was busy with Car-T trials back then (plural) both of which ended last year and on one of the clips 2016 appered as to when the scan was taken (eagle eyes!!)
I am questioning myself why it was shown, I didn"t think the science was that well explained and as to filming a Scancell trial, well I have just been having that conversation with ratty. Did you watch the Melanoma documentart, now that was very immunotherapy, James Allison interview and in a subject we are largely knowledgable in.
C7. You said this was in trial in 2016/7. So was the programme about that trial or is it more recent ? Why is it being continued given the outcome ?
How about filming a Scancell trial ?
Ruck at al, yeah I ended up watching War in the Blood last night too on the link crumbs posted.
Wasn"t going too in the end as I was tired and thought it might be best not to delve into any areas that were emotive atm, but glad I did ""curiousity killed the cat"".
From the first moment it showed the entranve to the McMillan Cancer Centre UCLH, my home for six years, and yes I was aware of this trial back to 2016/7. Will post my thoughts another time, very mixed, but worth the watch, I just wonder how the public who the science was new for perceive Car-T now??
Morning Guys,
Hi Klepto, happy you are still with us LTH, I remember you buying your first tranche just a few months ago. Hope you have been able to add to your holding since, I believe the timing was very good.
Respect your post, but Ray didn"t say he wanted to ramp the company, IMHO he is one of our finest posters with a tremendous understanding of our Science, which far exceeds mine, lol. What he says is.............................
""Something I have been thinking of doing is to pull together all I know about moditope and try to present it in a coherent way."""
I know after seven years I have so much information stored in my mind, I welcomed that post because it is discussing our science, and it always me to draw on my knowledge in a better ""coherent way"". Each to our own, but I also think that every single one of us could benefit in some way. I truly hope we can re cover this, discuss trials and everything Scancell. Good luck to you and to all of us...........................C7
Ray,
personally I’d welcome any thoughts and enlightenment anyone cares to offer.
I watched “war in the blood” last night. It was extremely moving, it was a good portrayal of the human side of cancer, treatments and trials.
I’d be interested to hear what Moditope would contribute to CAR-T or indeed, what CAR-T contributes to Moditope. Dr Martin Pule talked about reprogramming t-cells. Does Moditope help with the programming or help with what they are programmed to do? Will the two elements (CAR-T and Moditope) be administered at the same time or will one need a “head start”?
Sorry I have more questions than answers, over to you.....
I understand your point Klepto, but a factual and comprehensive recap and summary would be interesting to read for me as a long term holder anyway. Sensible recaps have allowed me to clarify any existing knowledge of the science, and I would welcome a full summary as suggested. I wouldn't classify straight fact as ramping.
I think everyone who is invested already has an understanding of Scancell otherwise why would we have invested our money in the shares. I don’t want or need anyone to ramp the company I have invested my money in.The science hopefully will out and once our trials in the uk and USA ,prove to be successful then both patients and investors will be overjoyed,Klepto.
That would be fantastic Ray. As a numbers man with no medical knowledge I find it very hard to fully understand the science. And I suggest I’m not alone. It would also be hugely beneficial to potential investors.
RayPointer,
It would make sense to post your thoughts. Some will agree; some will find faults. The discussion should be interesting, especially if Prof Lindy could be enticed to offer her thoughts on the conclusions of the discussion.
These geeks could be asked for their thoughts as well - they are using the D-Wave 2000 machine to process some of their models.

C7, how are you M8?
Great to see you still posting after your bad news over the weekend.
Something I have been thinking of doing is to pull together all I know about moditope and try to present it in a coherent way.
Do you think this would help? I can't promise how long this would take but it may spark some discussion on the merits of Scancell's approach and hopefully lead to a better general understanding for the science.
Yep, amazing, we are back in the same place again, it is the mechanisms that I am truly starting to understand now, helped largely by the BBC4 Documentary and a couple of items in Ray Pointers post a few days ago, quite apart from the enormous scientific contribution we have been lucky to have read and learned from here.
In the meeting with James Allison, in the melanoma documentary, he said, we are getting close to the time we can mention the C word. That sent tingles through my spine, and lets face it his T Cell work that he was awarded The Nobel Prize for somewhat validates the work of LD and Scancell too.
No, I only saw clips of that one... what we can say for sure and that was not the case when we first got in here... Immunotherapy has gone totally mainstream now and is only going to advance until one day there are enough keys to unlock all cancers defences ...also though far far from an expert I actually am quite clued on the mechanisms now which I was not at the begining I fully understood to science behind last nights CAR T though of course the actual practicalities of turning concept science into a usable product are where great skills are needed... hence modi1 becoming clinically ready is massive and was no small task as I have no doubt is the TCR work going on with BioNtech this really is edge of the cutting edge stuff and then requires trials and those willing to participate in those trials... as was said in last nights doc... in many ways it is those who fail in the trials who produce the most valuable data as lessons are learnt and products improved and clinical regimes can then be altered to benefit the next patients.... The battle goes on as you well know mate....hope we get news of our first SCIB1 combo patients dosed soon and that bloody FDA pulls its finger out as it is not like we do not have the techs ready and waiting and for sure the patients in need are!
Glad you mentione that Kite and Juno now have commercial products. For me it seems like the bad news concerning Car-T has diverted from any good news they have had.
I always reckoned it was a worthy part of the Arsenal against cancer, the concept is breathtaking.
Crumbs, did you get to watch the BBC documentary two weeks ago on a mans melanoma, his appt with James Allison and the validations for Immonotherapies? Also a must watch and glad you mentioned the emotional rollercoaster, it is!!!
TF I believe there are now commercial products from both Kite and Junos pipelines... the cost of CAR T is massive something else you could appreciate from the documentary the amount of care patients on those trials require is massive without even factoring in the cost of manufacturing etc.... however if treatments do work in a great enough % it does look like the costs will be worth it...and indeed covered
It is an emotional rollercoaster and UK documentary making at its finest and though the outcome is not a happy ending it does end positively and not in vain it also shows how much great work is going on and how special is our NHS (we should cherish and protect it with our lives) .... I cannot help but wish Lindys scientific approach was more widely known and pushed forwards though... she has cured cancer patients with her science already and way back in 90's too.... frustrating... but we are getting there and moditopes potential is beyond those of all current treatments .... We can but hope patients going into clinical trials involving scancells techs gain full benefit .... cancer is a complex beast with the ability to outwit it's attackers but the difference between success and failure is tiny... it is why the combo approach of treatments is gaining such momentum... hit it from all sides ... As the documentary showed a treatment can do exactly as it is supposed to do and yet still fail :(
Been asking myself the same question TF, good link.
Crumbs, yes I have read of many issues, both good/bad, looking forward to watching it later
I wonder how Kite and Juno are faring now after those lofty deals ?
The Graham Threader case reminded me of this . . .
