Thank you Doofus. Ha ha!
Banbury, that's very generous - thank you. There are others who deserve a very large and more enthusiastic shout-out
I've often thought this is the best board around (although I'm absolutely sure there are others) and there are a number of posters on here who view their portfolio in a different way and bring a new perspective to Saga that I could never bring, and I'm really impressed with the insight.
It wouldn't surprise me if, on occasion, senior people including shareholders within Saga glance through what we write and no doubt raise their bushy eyebrows at some of the topics and guffaw at some of the speculations.
Dofus amongst some stiff competition you emerge as my favourate poster on Saga. You have a touch of the Scarlett pimpernal. Wise a little inside knowledge and a conspiracy theory re Private but allways informed and interesting. Two posters who were good and gone quiet.
1.Horsearse i know got covid and was really poorly but did great analysis on cruise bookings. Be great to hear you again horse.
2. Valuewise who knew his stuff on insurance and i was hoping could shed light on 5bp reduction in loss ratio to bottom line.
Special mention to Millionare whose tea leaves are doing well and Gooner for covid and buildings for sale posts.
Great board all.
Im a novice on shares but for a week we have more or less closed on an intra day high that seems good to me. Any chartests have a view ?
@FJG - you're totally right and I'm wrong. Sorry - it was someone else.
@Doofus, "There is some reasoning behind it"
I think many people on here would be interested in you reasoning, I know I would be in case I have missed any important news etc.

Or Mystic Meg, she was always good for a laugh...
"@FJGooner did say I waffle and bluster"
Eh? I think that you're confusing me with another poster.
But not a problem - it's always good to read your posts on Saga.
@joe - yep I've a strong feeling. albeit I wouldn't bet your yacht on it, and I do zero day trading (maybe on occasion a month or so, but that's about as short as it gets.
There is some reasoning behind it - however @FJGooner did say I waffle and bluster so I won't go into the whys...
I also did not suggest a start in May for cruises - I'd rate that a 0% chance of happening.
But I'd fully agree with your suggestion that "Saga will re-engineer their summer cruising programme to less contentious destinations".
Just this afternoon, P&O confirmed that they have cancelled more than 90 planned cruises, some until the end of August and others until the end of September.
They now plan to run some "staycation" sailings around UK coastal waters instead.

Has anyone got Hercule Poirot's number?
@Doofus "Short-term traders (and I'm not one of them) - I'd wait until the third week of March to sell, then buy again the second week of April. You can top slice any profits, keep them and reinvest at a lower price. That's no insider knowledge, just a gut feeling that's quite strong, but obviously do your own research.
Pretty bold statement that :-)
Hello Doofus, just for some clarification I didn’t say the cruising will start 4th of may, I said the cruising will start once international holidays are approved even if just in uk to start with (likely 17th May) this is regardless of FCO guidelines IMO , saga have invested time and money in the covid shield audit and vaccine policy and being in the unique position to offer travel insurance they can overwrite the guidelines, I also think vaccine green corridors will be in place with Greece and Spain ASAP likely June! The data looking good so hopefully this timetable can also be accelerated!! Gla
Icecool, Gooner - been away for a few days working (hotels are empty)
Following on from the conversation last week, anyone who thinks the inaugural cruise will take place on the 4th May, I still think you're wrong and it isn't going to happen.
Again today, the government has said that international travel will not start before the 17th May.
https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/summer-holiday-travel-abroad-delay-may-b1811708.html
I know I'm frustrating in saying this, but in my honest view, do not expect travel and holidays to begin until the end of June.
And if you personally have booked any form of travel while we are in lockdown for any date into the future - unless it's a package, under the Package Regulations - you are not insured if it doesn't take place. Sadly I found this out personally.
What I THINK will happen is that Saga will re-engineer their summer cruising programme to less contentious destinations, beyond Europe - and interesting to see Denmark has broken away from buying the vaccine through the Commission - I think they'll open up for cruise travel as it's big business for the summer months.
So look out for summer sailings around Britain, to Iceland and Greenland, Baltic (excluding some of the EU states), but include Denmark; then there'll be Norway and Russia (Midnight Sun - where you should buy an inside cabin otherwise you get no sleep). By September, when the summer season is ended, we'll be back to Europe and further south to the Canaries and North Africa.
Maintaining £7 by end of the year, still think RDH may take it private. He only needs another 3.1% (wouldn't be surprised if that's already in the back pocket through family trust, employees, bankers) so can launch a takeover bid at any time he wants.

Funny, FJG. My money's on Scootlund.
FJ, post of the day award without a doubt and IMHO 5 years is being very generous :-)

I fully expect that within 5 years the EU will only contain the following states:
France.
It was only a matter of time Icecool, EU falling apart when it comes to unity....money matters, money talks.

I would have done the same Rox, when you have a great profit it’s difficult to ignore, well done.

Hi JoeSoap thats the Million dollar question isn’t it, how long do you hang on to your shares? Doofus is doing the right thing by setting a figure to top slice which is what I did with AVCT but then completely ignored!
When I bought at 22p it was on the back of the “imminent rapid test” - seriously.
I was well researched though because I knew if it never materialised the company was worth 69p on the cancer side alone so that was my figure to “get out”.
Cutting a long story short i got greedy and didn’t even start top slicing until about £1.50 and sold the lot at just under £2.00
Now that was some ride!
So back to SAGA and the million dollar question.
When is everyone top slicing here?
Announcement of cruises to resume? First sailings? First set of results after sailings? 1 year? 2 years? Never!?

"Icecool AVCT was my first baby which I bought in March last year on the premise of the “Rapid Test”
I’m not complaining because I did very well but I gave up on the imminent test so don’t hold your breath mate".
Rox, you might have wished you held on to these, but then possibly not.....they are either going to sky rocket this month or like you say don't hold your breath as it's been a while to get the so called gold standard to market. Mind you they also have the cancer treatment in trial so hopefully that works out for many people.

I’m sorry FJG i have not misinterpreted anything? It must have been somebody else you had the conversation with about British Isle cruising? I clearly said British Aisles Cruising! ha ha
Oway Doofus nobody is going to believe what you say if after 12 months in lockdown with your missus you use the phrase ‘for the life of my wife’ to back up your statements.
The other day I said to our lass “I am on an exercise program and have to walk three miles a day”
and she replied.
“That’s great. This time next week you will be f ** ing 21 miles away” lol.

They don't half pick 'em. Wasn't Van de lyin in charge when her Stormtroopers were fitted out with broomsticks instead of rifles on military manoevres?
And don't get me started on that Welsh windbag as Commissoner and his wife as MEP... talk about noses inthe trough for failure.
Beachbum, not like you to be so pessimistic :-)
