Mr Lokiloo interesting comment re Amazon - I think Rmg like many other U.K. assets like supermarkets turns out to be too strategic to let anyone outside U.K. buy it - however like BT hugely undervalued I think they (Amazon) would love a strategic stake like Deutsche Telekom and the French have in BT - maybe that is the end game for our big shareholder - that would def liven up the share price !
Name me a FTSE 100 business where the top guy has a chat with the boots on the ground & Covid is 'likely to be around for the next 5 years'.
I'm happy to invest here. Amazon are using this service more & more also & hey... maybe they'll make a bid at some point. My post service is great.
Thank you for your concern ,Commonsense. I'm afraid I too have to say that management will not sort this mess, and it is a mess, out. Any sensible investor will also take the views of the boots on the ground, so to speak, rather than just listen gleefully to the guy at the top. Believe me, he is hopelessly out of touch and when he realizes he can't change the business with the budget he has, then he will no doubt get a golden handshake and move on to another company he knows sod all about. The BIG problem with royal mail is that nobody who makes any sort of decisions talks to the people who would most likely know how those decisions will work out. Revisions for example. I'd like to share your (blind) optimism , I hope that's not too strong a phrase, but with respect from what I see, it's really not going very well and covid will not be a shield to hide behind for ever. ATB.
I have faith in the management...
They've made a dramatic turnaround and are returning significant amounts of money to shareholders.
This share has also been rock-solid on days when almost everything else has pulled back heavily.
If anything, I'll be increasing my holding here - significantly.
You are well and truly wrong if you think management will get this s h I t show sorted out anytime soon!!
I hear and respect what you say about the poor delivery which I hope for everyone’s sake gets resolved. However I am guessing that last year was equally poor and tricky with big volumes? From a share perspective (which is why we are on this board) my excitement is that I believe management will sort out these issues. Rmg is on the middle of a turnaround. Did you see the city analyst meeting where simon thompson talks of the focus on under performing offices. If last year H2 the RMG made £700m operating profit what on earth could it make if they ever get their act in order fully and with new massive automated centres coming in stream in next 18 months ! The overall operating margin will lift. That operating profit is after decent capex and pension etc obviously
To repeat myself I am extremely sympathetic to how busy at Rmg everyone must be and I hope the issues get resolved speedily. Good luck mr beetroot and mr ponty, forgive me just putting a financial aspect to your comments.
Good article Oli, just about hit the nail on the head. Didn't realize he was in charge of the test and trace app. Says it all. Made me chuckle when the woman refered to the shxt show that's happening as ' the festive mailbag '! Lol. Did she mean the festive 16 mailbags , 4 yorks of packets and not nearly enough time to do it all?
Ponty. I know. Why do we take mostly Amazon stuff on Sunday? Anyone know? Anyway alot of it went back to mail centre to try again tomorrow, not enough staff willing to come in on Sunday for an extra £5.86/hr when you're pretty nailed from doing your delivery all week. Oh well, the LAT Amazon stuff got precedence over the ' normal ' Royal Mail stuff which has been sat there since Thursday.
Always seems to surprise them every year. Annual leave ban from first week of December, in theory 1/6 more staff ......and they fail to hire more vans. Parcels are starting to pile up at our office now so that should please everyone here. Christmas pressies for Christmas? That's so 80's . We're the new Royal Mail, we'll get em to you sometime in January. But that's okay with the public and posters here I'm sure. Covid and all that, we'll make exceptions.
Cannot believe how heavy the parcels were at work today, just got home from work, having been in and done an 8hr shift on overtime, sorting and delivering tracked parcels..... Going to be megga busy tomorrow ??
Talking of "can't believe".
I posted last week that my office had failed to secure enough Christmas casual staff, especially the night shift and that we didn't appear to have enough 7½ tonne vehicles compared to previous years. Now there appears to be a panic for delivery vehicles?

Thank you JB, we have remained healthy. Same wishes to you and yours.
Differing opinions are useful here and we have plenty of those :-). As you probably gathered I formed an opinion that the tide had again turned a while back and it has so far been fruitful. As we well know RMG is not easy on us shareholders. Sometimes we should hunker down and other times cash in and wait. I'm not thinking of cashing in just yet. Best wishes whatever you decide.
Thanks Redceo just giving my opinion with some supporting facts. Of course some people do have differing experiences of the service and workplace. It has also been useful to hear from some actual customers Overall not a bad week and the dividend may well have to be reinvested, although I take cash and decide once in my account. As we know things can change quickly in the world of RMG. Best to you and yours and stay safe and healthy.
Thanks for your input JB. A well balanced view and of course speaking from years of experience is far more useful than merely being a shareholder.
Ofcom the independent regulator review QoS figures and for the Period to March 21 agreed there were acceptable reasons for failures including the impacts of Covid. Virtually no business in the country has not been impacted. Do managers care about QoS of course they do IMO and quite often it is a bonus worthy objective so can hit them in the pocket as well. Perhaps understanding that first class service has an AIM of delivering the next working day not a contracted guarantee. With the reduction in letters the USO will be reviewed and when sick absence returns to normal levels then the business quite rightly should be measured on performance and held to account. If a particular office needs more resource there are channels to have that addressed including representation from CWU who are involved fully on revisions. I personally want us to be best in class in what we do and hopefully we are improving. To suggest the whole country is lucky to get regular deliveries and on time is just not the case. Even during the worst of covid times with sick absence 20% + we still managed to deliver 75% against our stated aims. My own service is tremendous no issues in fact my local postie is more than happy as the latest revision took a bit off his rural walk and on some days I get my mail earlier. His office is clearing most days with the exception of the duties not covered due to high levels of sick although the majority do go out on overtime or next day.

I do get your point….but when alls said RM are still one of the ones to use,and in the last 6 months I’ve only had two issues out of thousands of items sent….for those not happy go and use another service, then come back once you see the overall service you’ve moved to…you will prob find the new service is fine, until you come to speak to someone about a lost item or a problem….
Secondly as already mentioned…as an investor also…the rewards are there for those who are patient….if it’s as you say, then I am more pleased now as there’s scope for improvement, which means more profit, which means more money from my investment.
Calldat, , you are very lucky if you are seeing an improvement in service. Very lucky indeed. Mhudson i didn't say from one end of the country to another for less than a quid wasn't good value.....if it actually got delivered when it was meant to. Some mail is time sensitive like I said, with consequences if missed. Royal mail are not bothered about this, because it's not tracked. Why have any timeframe on letters at all? Why are they not more transparent and say, look, due to not wanting to spend money staffing the company correctly, if you post a letter we are not going to give you a timeframe when it will arrive. I'd have no problems if they said that. Instead they try to pretend it's isolated 'covid' related cases. Which is simply not true.
I have been a loyal user of Royal mail for years and can't understand why people use couriers. I use the service more or less daily and it is excellent and improving. Maybe I am lucky where I live. Good investment too. Thanks Royal mail!
And still my parcel/post get there, and if not iam compensated quickly.
My point is valid,I don’t use other companies as past problems take to long to put right, parcels going missing to regular,to many arriving damaged, many showing delivered but not…very happy using one of the best companies within the sector, also as an investor, now very happy the way things are going with my investment, with a lot of room for more improvement I can see only one outcome…that’s my investment doing very well…keep up the good work.
34 years and that`s garbage , for the price of a first class stamp your letter goes lands end to john`o groates , CANT GET A BUS 1 STOP FOR LESS THAN £1.60
Sorry but what you posted is pathetic , open your eyes to the current world , 6 months waiting list to face to face doctors , dentists roughly similiar , you ****ging them off
Quite agree. DPD are decent, turn up on time, but some of the others are woeful & i wince whenever i see one of these are about to attempt a delivery.
Taking in all other delivery options…me as a business and a lot of people I no,still think RM is a far better service than most others, yes there late sometimes, yes things go missing, but most items are on time, not damaged, not left out in the elements, and when it does go tits up you can pick up the phone and talk to a human being, any claim we have ever had to put in for a lost item is sorted within a week, unlike a lot of other companies.
My Royal Mail service seems just fine. Parcels generally arrive far quicker than expected & we're always getting mail through the letterbox.
Looking forward to the Divi pay out & share buy back ramping up here.
Hopefully the reporters finished at 5.30-6pm like we did up here, and took plenty of photos and notes on the many yorks of pkts left along with the many walks that didn't go out......but like you said ,they will have probably had a clear office and have been finished by three. It'll be busy tomorrow in that office when they 'find' what should have gone today though. Lol.
@ Beatroot.
As a postie of 32 years i totally agree.
Unfortunately, after OFCOMs recent report, the USO is all but over.
Very soon it will be the industry standard to deliver one duty one day, and the other shared van duty the next.
All measured items will have to be delivered on the same day though. It's sort of happening now, but without guidance from the white collar workers.
And as for employing. Until 3 weeks ago we were running with over 200 hours of vacancies. Now down to about 140.
Also. Look out for a report in the Financial Times. I understand some reporters were on delivery today in an office that i'm familiar with.
It'll be interesting to read how they found it. And how accurate it is.
