"question, if Rus, China etc create their own SWIFT type system, could that work in Poly's favour, because there will have to be an 'exchange,' mechanism, they can't both be hermetically sealed. Anyway, I've had beer, night all. I miss FA, there, I said it!!"
Sanctions on Russia started in 2014 (when they annexed Crimea). Thus, in 2014, Russia developed two systems to replace Swift, they are: SPFS and CyberFT.
Russian system is recent and not used or adopted as much as Swift, hence it is not that effective internationally.
But 2 developments are on the recent (late June 2022) BRICS 14th Summit held few days ago. Agenda of BRICS was using 'SPFS' instead of 'Swift' and creating new 'reserve currency' that would be used for world trading instead of dollars. Many countries other than BRICS attended BRICS summit.
A number of developing/emerging economies were invited to join 14th BRICS summit. Iran and Argentina has applied to join BRICS.
New currency would be linked to the basket value of BRICS currencies (this was announced few days ago) and would replace $ in trade between BRICS countries, Iran. Indonesia and some other countries.
China have been winning for quite some time, I feel like they are just on point, with everything. We can only hope they play nice, because I don't think they can be beaten. They are both smart, and big, a lethal combination.
Did anyone see the 'Strong statement' on G7 unity, there's nothing in it, unspecified 'We will ruin Russian economy with sanctions' statement, here's a few billion to help with the food crisis, which is a distraction, if there's not enough grain no amount of money will make up for that, and limiting the price of oil, but everyone will have to agree, including India, who are laughing all the way to the bank. I don't think they know what to do now, but hope public opinion will force a movement, and they will be blameless for the mess they've caused respective economies. Reason I'm saying this is to reflect on the pressure build up, it's not there yet, but when Autumn comes...... Also question, if Rus, China etc create their own SWIFT type system, could that work in Poly's favour, because there will have to be an 'exchange,' mechanism, they can't both be hermetically sealed. Anyway, I've had beer, night all. I miss FA, there, I said it!!
Diadulus
I don't think POLy will be selling gold at a discount as they never sold to G7 countries
These sanctions have not touched the gold market at all and by all accounts are fairly useless
Worse part about this is that China, who don't hold to the sanctions will now have access to discounted gold along with the discounted oil. Wonder which country will now be producing the cheapest circuit boards, mobile phones, semiconductors, solar panels, EV's etc etc. Russia is in a bad place whilst Putin still thrives, which could end quite soon, but China (CCP) is the bigger looming threat as they are expending massive amounts of resources on their military and are very clear on their goals, unlike Russia whose budget is less than Saudi Arabia & really lack a plan let alone a genuine goal bar Uggg destroy (go figure!)
@roxy2020
You are right to an extend. You mentioned two points:
1: "UKR alone doesn't have a say in this alone".
Actually, if UKR wants to stop the war and call Russia on negotiating table, they can do that. Though, they may not because NATO countries are doing everything to encourage UKR keep on fuelling the war.
With NATO military and financial support for UKR, it is morally, egoistically, politically and financially difficult for many at helm of decision making in UKR (especially those who are fighting war from safety of their office/home) to do that.
2: "Russians dont war Nuclear missiles on their doorstep in cae UKR joins the alliance"
You are right. Main reason war started is due to what you mentioned. UKR was once part of Russian empire (USSR) and Russia gave UKR (along with many other countries) independence with expected condition that they would not let their soil used against Russia, get too close to USA or NATO alliance.
This is true for USA too. Remember 'Cuban Missile crises'.
""Over the last several days, we've become aware of assassinations of local Russian officials," the official said.
"And we're also aware that reporting suggests Ukrainians have been successful in liberating several small towns northwest and west of Kherson.""
It is time for the deluded to get real. Ukraine will be fighting for their land back for decades. as the have engaged since 2014. Now the war is out in the open and this is where it will stay. Stop wishing for peace deals due to any strategic Russian gains, it simply is not going to happen. Any eventual Russian ceasefire whilst still on Ukraine territory will be meaningless.
Poly must split, extradite itself and dump the toxic assets - and soon!
Russia only has creeping advances in Donbas because it already had a substantial presence through the Russian militia there and certain European countries promised heavy weapons but then stalled because they thought they were clever enough to make some magic peace deal against a child murdering psychopath.
Well the heavy weapons are arriving and the Russian losses are going to accelerate wit supply lines cut off behind them. This will be a bloody end with WW1 levels of slaughter, but it has to be done if the generals will not call it off at the front and turn the guns on the Kremlin.
With very short supply lines in the east and the previous occupied areas not under Ukrainian control, most analysts say the performance has been far from good and things will only get harder as those supply lines get longer and troops get more exposed.
All the time more advanced equipment going in which will be damaging for the invadeping force.
It doesn't really matter wether the country is a strong or reach country.
What it's doing on the battlefield is what matters here
It is now evident that Russia has the upper hand
I am not a fan of Russia and I am sympathetic and always have been towards the plight of the UKR.
But commonsense and logic tells me that they've taken on a mammoth task
" It would make far more sense for Russia to ditch the revenant tzaristas and work more closely with the west. "
You would make an excellent soldier - doesn't think too much just accepts
The movement with this one will be sudden and you've got to be there when it happens. I sold most of mine a month ago and can't see any reason for a proper rise just yet. Yes they sucked some in a couple of days ago to create some liquidity but generally the large spread suggests day trading is not being encouraged and the SP will drift. If I had stayed with it I would be sitting on a 33% loss instead I'm breaking even in energy hoping HBR will carry on its rise.

Russia is not a strong country, though it does have a lot of cannon fodder. It's not a rich country, though it does have a lot of natural resources. It's not a country with much of a future, though the zombie-Soviet will assure you otherwise. VERY LOUDLY!
It's a country that is mortgaging its future to China and the CCP will call in the debt when it suits them.
It would make far more sense for Russia to ditch the revenant tzaristas and work more closely with the west.

Yes but they’ve invaded now so don’t want to lose face …
Fed up reading your war mongering. Reporting you every time you do it.
You are literally on your knees begging for Ukraine to give in and save Russia from this never ending humiliation.
Defending Europe can include taking preemptive action, as in the Balkans although nato was slow to respond. I personally think Putin will test the west and nato with Belarus attacking Poland. Nato and Russian forces will clash within Belarus as a consequence. I Putin continues unopposed then that conflict will escalate to all out war. It won't be nuclear. The critical error will be accepting a withdrawal of Russia as an ending rather than going into Russia and imposing a occupying government for a decade or two until all Russian nukes are eliminated and the country is no threat to anyone in the future.
"Roxy, inflation is transitory, subjugation is permanent. But I guess you wouldn’t fight for what you believe in."
At the end of the day you should only bite what you can chew. There's no point in taking something on which is totally illogical and beyond.one's capabilities. which most definitely causes immense destruction and death on a massive scale.
Good leadership means securing the best interests and secutity of the people you lead
Big blue, nato is a defensive alliance, it’s not going in anymore than the Russian generals are going to give up.
Russia attacks nato soil it will engage.
Russian generals give up they might as well not go home, that’s the way it works there. They will either win or lose on the battlefield. Ukraine will almost certainly not accept any further land lost and will engage in a guerrilla war to inflict long term pain which will spread out of Ukraine
"egoistic dictators" he is elected and overseen by an independent elected parliament that could move against him and th defence if they wished.
They do not wish.
Again, you have this attitude that it is all Ukraines fault. WHO INVADED WHO? You lot are clearly very angry Russia has failed and been humiliated and wish to blame everybody else. And that pigheaded superiority complex back in the Kremlin will lead inevitably Russia being erased from the future.
Just how many times do you think the rest of the world is going to have Russia cause yet more trouble before nato goes for it? Russia is going to be invaded eventually if there isnt amajorrevisinof its foreign policy. And all the signs from nato are tat thi i t, Ukraine was the red line. 300,000 troops to be mobilised. Notto take out ussia, honest gov, that's just Russian media hysteria, honest guv!
The Afghan army didn’t fight they just dropped weapons and ran. But this is a tribal issue. They are all afghans
If you want peace, sometimes you have to fight for it…
Same in Iran, if the people want something different they have to make it happen.
Roxy, inflation is transitory, subjugation is permanent. But I guess you wouldn’t fight for what you believe in. If Ukraine had invaded Russia they’d be getting castigated for their actions.
Some things can only be settled by violence and being invaded must surely be one of those times.
If you really want this share to recover you should be calling for troops to return to home bases as the Ukrainians aren’t giving up any time soon.
The afghan masses are crying out on a daily basis and wondering why the U.S. and others left them at the mercy of the Taliban.
If that is freedom I don't want it.
