Will it be in the Bridgend area I wonder? ;0)
I think they dp but suggest they want some certainty that we are going to manufacture a superior product to Innova. Dont underestimate the potential political gain of awarding the contact to a Scottish based company.
I dont think the PM clearly wants anything outside of endless self promotion
What does it matter. Odx will have plenty to do even if the Chinese do muscle in. If they do make millions a week it won't affect odx, it might affect avct sales though.
UK Government clearly want to have an indigenous LFT Supply.
Do they "clearly" want an indigenous LFT supply?
South Wales
Scientists have accused the Government of misleading the public over the accuracy of Innova's rapid test and called for its use to be stopped.
Professor Jon Deeks, Dr Angela Raffle and Dr Mike Gill – from the University of Birmingham, the University of Bristol and a former regional director of public health, respectively – said in a letter published in January: 'The Innova lateral flow test is not fit for many of the purposes being proposed by the government.
'In the Liverpool pilot, the test missed infection in 60 per cent of people, and of greatest concern missed it in 30 per cent of those with very high viral loads who are at highest risk of spreading the virus to others.
'An erroneous test result may lead to people taking the wrong actions and putting themselves and others at risk of infection. This may increase and not reduce disease spread, illness and death.'
Getting desperate, with this ain't we you don't trust Bobo to give ODX a contract for 370 million, but trust him to give the Chinese a contract for 2,7 billion , that's a good one ,
What certification does the Innova test have that allows their use in the country, compared to The two sovereign tests which are struggling to obtain theirs?
The Government stated they wanted to build a British diagnostic industry, but appears to be putting hurdles in the way allowing less reliable tests to take money out of the country.

Daniel Elliott, of Innova Medical Group, said the UK was his biggest customer, with ... It is building a factory in this country to satisfy demand.

The Innova test does just that and Innova can presently produce more than 10 million of them every single day. In addition, the company is actively hiring and staffing as it launches its ambitious initiative to produce an estimated 50 million antigen test kits per day by Spring of 2021.

Innova's 'primary' factory for making coronavirus swabs is in Xiamen in Fujian. It also has three production facilities in the US, and is planning to expand to the UK.
Be interesting to see where they site the factory! ;0)
Doesn't matter who else manufactures them as long as they fill odx to full capacity first. Not sure about a sovereign test if the Chinese are on board making seven million a week? Did the govt actually say they wanted a sovereign test or has it been assumed? Can't remember.
There is a timetime artcile suggesting this but I dont have access
7 Mar 2021 — Daniel Elliott, of Innova Medical Group, said the UK was his biggest customer, with ... It is building a factory in this country to satisfy demand.
However I don't think the UK Gov are accepting that type of test going forward.. so sales to EU (post brexit?!)? or a new test?
“Surely there will be little demand for Innova tests after the sovereign test has been declared?”
When the fook is that going to happen though.
You’d thought they’d be some urgency to get it signed off ffs
Techbadger I can't find any references on the interweb to this. I have only done a skim due to time but nothing has turned up.
China brought the whole world to a standstill in less than three months !
Trust me, as someone who has worked in manufacturing transitions and manufacturing duplication at a global level, there is no way this could mobilise in the timescales quoted above. Absolute tosh.
"Project is well under way, and has been running for some time. Machines are installed."
So you're saying two companies that don't own the IP to an existing test are well down the path of setting up capacity to manufacture - by July - a test they don't actually have.
Riiiiiiiiight....
At least 6 months to get compliance signed off. You need 3 to 6 months to get the staff in place as a minimum and lots of other factors. You simply cannot pop up a full blown and ready to manufacture pharma factory in a weekend.
Thanks for creating a new account to inform us of this with no links to any information sources :)
Depends; if the UK needs 30 million tests a month (that's half the population one test a month) then we will need all hands on deck to produce them. Even if ODX can produce 5 million a month that is still lots more to find. I can see ODX selling everything they produce and being a very big company within the next couple of years.
"Good luck establishing a manufacture site in 3 months."
It'll take that long at least to get the ISO accreditation once the manufacturing facility is established...
What's the going timescale for technical transfer 6 month to a year ?
Good luck establishing a manufacture site in 3 months.
