Maracaw the British could match anyone for dirty deeds .
Putin & Russia have issues my point is we and most definitely America is not that much better.
How can WE justify the deaths of at least 350,000 Syrians, a country we have been partly responsible for bombing the s.hat out of and yet we call Putin a "thug" for a sloppy assassination.
Anyway I'll come back tomorrow when the markets open as I don't want to turn this forum into Facebook!
Yes, only us and the US. The rest of the world that have at one time or another had empires, invaded, plundered and pillaged are the good guys, we are the ar8eholes…apparently
brugal.
Only us and the yanks have done wicked things?
I'm sure the CIA have been guilty over the decades of just as many atrocities as their Russian counterparts, only they are more discreet about it!
How many people have been slaughtered in Syria curtesy of America backed terrorists and continued bombing?
V well said bumble.the yanks and Brits have plundered many nations done some awful deeds .they talk about terrorists but they created them .
Bumble
Twice last century America spilt blood saving our bacon It is why we still have freedom of speech amongst other things. Yep America has made mistakes along with us. However sometimes attacking a countries leaders as has happened is to help free its people from oppression and dictatorship. This rarely works due to people being programmed to accept dictatorship and being frightened of self determination. Irac is still struggling with this not being helped by religious zealots.
Incarceration without trial?? Well which trial were the victims of 9/11 allowed before their demise?
Supporting Putin? find that strange. The man quite without regard poisons his opposition politicians near killing them then making sure they disappear when that fails. How do you square that? "Thug" is being kind to Putin imho. The Canadian prime minister said to him " I would ask you a question but you would only lie again" Luck he didn't get poisoned.
bertram,
Russia has its issues and Putin is probably not the sort of man you want to cross but you really need to look at Americas history, and ours!
Do you think America has not been involved in assassinations outside of its own borders?
Or becoming involved in trying to overthrow governments it doesn't like.
Or incarcerating people without charge or trial.
Or torture.
When Russia do it Putins a "thug"
When America do it its OK?
Cornsland, I think as part of the Cuba deal the USA agreed not to base missiles in Turkey. That part was kept quiet. ATM Russia is behaving like a thug imho. You can not appease bullies. The poisoning of individuals in the UK was not an accident. Flying huge nuclear bombers down the north sea is not the act of friendship.
I feel a little ashamed of the Germans over the present problems. A stern word from them in Putins ear may have halted the aggression. I suppose the Germans have become beholding of Russian gas.
SS
Also, a big part of that deal was that the US had to agree it would not try to invade Cuba again. It was fear of the US attempting another invasion after the failed "Bay of Pigs" invasion orchestrated by the CIA in 1961 that led Castro to get closer to the Soviet Union and invite them to have Nuclear Missile launch sites based on Cuba to deter America from attempting another invasion.
Cornsland, one lesser known fact is that the Americans had missiles in Turkey pointing at the Soviet Union. These had to be removed immediately as well. The Yanks tried to say they would delay removal quietly after 6 months - so they could claim "victory" in the crises - but the Soviets wouldn't have it.
I am not a fan of Russia, however. I can understand that they don't want NATO on their doorstep. I am old enough to remember the Cuban missile crises in 1963 when we nearly had the start of World War Three. Russia wanted to have nuclear missiles on the island of Cuba, America said it would sink the ships bringing them from Russia, and obviously start a war. Russia backed down, and peace of sorts followed. So I confirm, I can clearly understand Russia's worries!

Absolutely agree 100%
Constant threats from NATO over the years no wonder Russia is flexing its muscles. What the hell could the UK do about it ? Nothing we cant even govern the country let alone the UK, very poor indeed just when Brexit happened the government was in chaos i voted out but to be honest it has made no difference at all with 1000s of free loaders walking up the beaches giving the V sign our poor grandparents who kept the UK sovereignty would be so upset and ashamed of the events.
Russia and Putin has so much respect for the UK.
They would never think of using Novichok in the UK for fear of reprisals and sanctions imposed by the UK.
The UK is just a pawn for the USA so that they display a united front.
Hardup
Liz Truss knows nothing and Putin doesn't get scare of her and she knows so well a mighty power of Russian
Putin never intended to invade Ukraine and Liz and others are so stupid (or failing to admit) not realising that.
Russian objectives was purely show of power by Nato door step and they will continue doing that.
I personally no fan of Putin at all but it is time for British foreign secretary to understand her position again in world stage that super power like Russia are no match for them. not even close enough.
Sorry to be blunt but seems the penny not dropping for British goverment that they no longer have the power they had 100 years go, we are in totally different eras and those time gone and will never come back. Sooner we realise that stronger we will be.
Russia and China controlling things now days.
So sooner Liz and others wake up to that reality the better it is.
IMHO
GLA
Ha ha ha... she made an ass of herself 'Down Under' as well, trying to get people there worked up against the Chinese. The Labour leader put her, and Not so Great Britain down beautifully.
"Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said the government is not ruling out the possibility of imposing sanctions targeted at Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the case that Russia invades Ukraine."
I'm sure that has got him quaking in his boots! lol
