I live a few hundred yards away, when it comes to Appledore the yard always had a turnover of 30-50 million so just to recover to normal trading would be a good boost to infra
driftwood123 ref 17.27 post I am not doubting you but can I ask is this from a personal observation or information provided?
Appledore indoor dry dock as from today being prepped for large undercover build, looks like it could be something important
Lottie123 ref 07.13 post Having given this some thought I have doubts on such a proposition. The main issue is that INFA is not a fabrication company as such. While both Belfast and Appledore can be used for fabrication that is not their primary function. While an asset sale of the BiFab assets is possible this might attract a referral to the Secretary of State. Indeed a takeover of INFA may be blocked on National Security grounds.
If the EU are swayed by this then it could lead to the UK government doing similar. Although our government hasn't shown too much support of industry so far in my view. Would be interested to know how this would fair against competition rules? Nice research, thanks lottie
Korean company CS Wind buys 60% stake in Portuguese Tower and foundation manufacturer ASM Industries. This could be the start of a global rush to acquire fabrication assets.
5 companies have formed an alliance (OFWA) to raise the importance of manufacturing within the wind energy sector. Importantly, the final paragraph of their statement is very relevant to INFA. It states,
"Foundations should be supplied from the shortest possible distance, to limit the transport related carbon footprint"
PS i did find an updated version of the specifications for neart na gaoithe that i posted a few days back if anyone is interested

Hi Stokey interesting times indeed as I mentioned before it will be good to see the steel arriving for jackets from the specifications they average 1300 tons per jacket (depending on depth of water) It will certainly fill the yard up !!
GLA and have a good weekend
OT
Hi Stokey12 - Reading your post this morning it feels to me that something is happening in the background particularly with this new piece of kit bought recently. Not sure about the ML that I feel is now on the back boiler but something else.I had hoped for an RNS by today but maybe it is next week.Fingers crossed for now & I am now saying Buy.
oldtramp ref 08.58 post of yesterday I noted the comment from Mike Kennedy on this feed which says 'Invest in CNC machine the outlay is costly
But the return is high quilty production
Over and over again which In return brings repeat Business to your yard
So very good to watch H&W raise and being requested to bib again for new build and mager ship refurbishment .' The reference to new build and ship refurbishment is interesting.
With reference to the profiling machine...from my experience...all welds relating to items of work that are to be insured must be 'fully penetrated welds,' inspected via ex-ray, each weld passed and recorded, prior to certification....hence the necessity and importance for such equipment that guarantees specification is attained.
Chris am sailing on P&O Arora maiden Goya this week am going end of August from Southampton visiting belfast
oldtramp ref 06.56 post this link also works https://www.linkedin.com/posts/david-hunter-7b911898_dreamteam-activity-6826603380241244161-XDGr. The post reads
Work scope visit today to Irish Ferries beautiful ship the
W B Yeats.
Let’s hope our team effort can bring this to Harland and Wolff for upcoming planned
maintenance.
When the previous Irish Ferries ferry was in the Dock I did say that it might lead to more work from them.
Possibly more work for H&W ?

Hi Chris I see from the Twitter link that someone was asking the use of a profiler
In short if you make a t piece out of 2 tubes you will have a gap each side on one tube because of shape
The profiler cuts the qtr moon shape out of tube and bevels edges to be filled with weld
Good bit of kit
Caribbean (A125) Duration 14 Nights Sailing on Azura

Arrives: Bridgetown, Barbados 24 Dec 2021
Edit: Gives some context as to when the vessel needs to ready by.

Edit: Tweet shows machine in operation see also the word 'new' so further investment by H&W.Bring it on.
Bit of speculative research
SSE report on how Uk can reach net zero without breaking the bank Hydrogen figures quite highly

". Hydrogen storage is
assumed to take the form of salt cavern storage, which is estimated to
be around 6 times cheaper than above ground storage"
Then we have SSE building Hydrogen storage in salt caverns
https://www.energyvoice.com/renewables-energy-transition/hydrogen/337069/sse-equinor-hydrogen/
Last but not least we have SSE this week mentioning Ireland and Scotland
https://www.energylivenews.com/2021/07/28/sse-renewables-and-siemens-gamesa-forge-green-hydrogen-partnership/
Islandmagee is the only salt caverns i can find in Ireland if they continue on same route as above.
Thomas13 Ref 10.30 post I would have been extremely worried if he was not at the meeting.
Understand JW was at this meeting
Nice new bit of kit at Methil should save a lot of time and money on Saipem contract

Stokey,
Best to look at who is making those comments. The person who made that is 'currently looking for dive/ welding work', I'm not sure he is looking for somewhere to repair his 4 x 10,000t ships.
I'd also hope that any potential customers wouldn't use the comments section on a LinkedIn post to enquire....!!!
Just seen this comment on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update urn:li:activity:6825862866214748160?commentUrn=urn%3Ali%3Acomment%3A%28activity%3A6825862866214748160%2C6826375991351369728%29
The post reads 'Further to my post.....how many 10.000gross tonage or less ships. Could fit into the dry dock at one time? Is it possible to fit 4 vessels, at one time and work on each simultaneously?' I am not sure if anyone knows the answer. I am actually more interested in the question as it seems more like a customer query.
oldtramp - Thanks for the link & I have just read the speech.Originally I was against the idea of a 'flagship' as I thought it was flagpole politics however I have changed my mind & if we wish to rule the 'commercial waves' around the world this ship will well service that ambition. It was a great speech & have watched Wallace a number of times in the Commons & at Defence Select Committees & feel that he is what we need (but not Boris). At least we will have some idea if H & W are successful in their bid this year.
