Might get my 2.21 to day still hold
@spoon
Yeah, it's rather scary to think it could be permanently with us. I've got a lot of confidence in the pharmaceuticals industry, not necessarily in their integrity, but in their capability to come up with solutions when there's a compelling profit motive.
They are already learning a lot about treatment, I'm assuming treatments will get better and better, just like happened with HIV, is happening with cancer, etc. Mortality rates and long term effects will drop over time, I'm sure, even if there's no cure or vaccine. If it really is a permanent part of the landscape, testing will improve, too.
Re: IAG, if it's true that there's never going to be lasting immunity, I suspect we'll have flying soon, anyway. But it probably will significantly impact demand for some time if that's the case.
TMT I suppose its a tricky situation knowing what to do in these circumstances, my main reason for posting it was to highlight that it seems as though people can be reinfected which is very bad especially as people are suffering from issues long after they were found to be virus free? Maybe this is why we wont be different than other panemics and will have a 2nd major wave come the winter which could kill far more, I dont want to be all doom and gloom I just want people to know that there is still a real risk of this getting way worse than we thought it would, hopefully due to the times we live in now we wont suffer the worse case scenario and to be honest with medical advances etc I have more hope for that not happening? Just stay safe people and if all comes good then we will all be laughing :)
@spoon
So if that's true and there will never be a vaccine that is effective, and you can catch it repeatedly, then shouldn't all lockdown restrictions and restrictions on flying be lifted? If we can't beat it and are going to have to live with it forever, then it's pointless to lock people in their homes and keep people from travel if it can't be eradicated. You can't go on with no one working. You can't keep people from visiting their overseas families. You can't say that people can't practice their religion. You can't put everyone under permanent house arrest in solitary confinement. You can't live that way. You have to let people make their own decisions about how much risk they want to take.
It's one thing to do all these restrictions temporarily if you think the problem is temporary and is going to have solutions. It's quite another if there aren't permanent solutions.
Not a big fan of Zerohedge but this is interesting

I agree TMT imperfect I suppose can be defined in different ways. Tradingplaces I know this was a bit of a long thread but it does correlate to IAG, these boards talk about many other things that maybe dont seem IAG related but indirectly are. As has been mentioned the postivies or negatives for the vaccine will 100% make a difference to IAG so its imo ok to talk about it plus to be honest I hate it when people complain about others going off topic, its called having a conversation with other investor minded people about other things in life.
I’m not sure Tesla is the way forward. H2 will take over EV’s hopefully within 10 years. If you look at companies such as ITM, with huge significant investment from Linsel train, BP getting in on H2, busses being run on H2 it seams obvious.
Building enough batteries for every car to be run on isn’t the future, there isn’t the capacity to make them in such high quantities, and you still need to find the energy to charge them. It doesn’t solve the problem, just shifts it.
Hydrogen can only be the future... just a bit early yet.
If your question is how it is relevant to IAG, it's certainly relevant to how demand will or won't grow for international travel, and how quickly. If those granting approvals, and the populace in general, have spoon's attitude to risk, it's going to be a while before we have a vaccine that will make a difference. If they have mine, we might have a vaccine sooner, but with more potentially more risks attached to it.
And the opinion specific to IAG shares in this chat is where?
Anyone?.............. Anyone?
@spoon "That word imperfect is one that should never be used in any vaccine talk"
Well, most vaccines are imperfect in the sense that they don't 100% guarantee immunity. And almost every vaccine has some risk of side effects. Probably the word "perfect" shouldn't be used in vaccine talk.
I totally get your point but it just depends on what "imperfect" means. If it means you have a sore arm for a couple days, it means nothing. If it means you have a 1 in 10,000 chance of catching an active but mild case of COVID, it's probably worth that risk for most people, anyway. If it means you have a 1 in 10 chance of permanent heart damage, or a 1 in 20 chance of some kind of cancer, then it's a different story.
Life is full of risks. There are risks in virtually every vaccine. There are risks in not using it. It's a question of balancing risks. We're in a devastating pandemic that is likely to kill several million world wide, and leave millions others with potentially permanent damage, before we are done. That justifies some level of risk in the vaccine.
Whats funny about that is you can literaly see him now saying those exact words "Haha I'm the president again and you cant do anything about it"
@whatamess I think the question thats now on everyones minds is when do you think your price target of about 80p will hit assuming Trump does miraculously have a vaccine as you think could happen? I think you'd agree that there would be a big boost to IAG's sp short term with maybe a gradual decline till things pick right back up but surely if you think there will be a vaccine before November you'd be better owning IAG now OR do you see something else happening before then to push the sp down ;)
Oh dont get me wrong it wont surprise me if they do I just cant see it happening as surely if its "Fake vaccine news" It could cause major issues? Time will tell but until then make sure non of you inject yourselves with disinfectant! One thing I think we will all agree on is the next 6 months are going to be very interesting assuming we are all alive that long as the way 2020 has turned out so far Neowise will probably hit something and coming crashing into us! On that note make sure you all go out a view it sometime, it looks amazing!
@TMT "Even if we have a rushed and imperfect vaccine" That word imperfect is one that should never be used in any vaccine talk, just a quick google of vaccines gone wrong shows you how bad things could get if they mass vaccinate people and then realise ooops we have an issue? Maybe thats the plan, assuming you like conspiracies? It would be great if they do manage to pull a rabbit out of the bag and produce one thats effective and safe as that benefits us all and not just health wise but also monetarily :)
I can see a vaccine being approved before Nov elections to all but guarantee a Trump re-election, major major rally on the markets...dont blink!
Lmao yea I did m8, I odered a Samsung Ecobubble, it was on offer :) We also got another slow cooker but no battery yet, thats getting fitted on Thursday, thanks for asking :)
Exactly, when you look into the history of how long vaccines take to produce "Safely" Then imo this rush to get one could lead to major health issues! I'm not saying it wont work I just have major reservations about it being safe. This isn't like taking a tablet which can give you side effects you are literaly infecting your body with any unknown entity that has not been fully tested, they are still learning about it so how the hell can you make a safe vaccine from something you dont even fully understand yet? FDA can do one, if you think they wont rush one through for the "Economy" You're wrong all imo :) As for a one being rushed through before the election, I cant see it to be honest as its to obvious and most of not all scientists saying there will be one before next year at the earliest but again nothing would surprise me in the times we live in now, the world is effing nuts! One thing that is for sure is the bounce in the markets when one is announced will be one we have never seen before!
Spoon.
My main question and the one we all want answering.
Did you get a new washing machine?
Hope it's all sorted
I also will not be taking a vaccine anytime soon.
I will be keeping very active and fit, take reasonable precautions, and eating a healthy diet of a reasonable amount of food. I will not put on weight. If my lungs and heart have to fight this thing off they are going to be ready for it and I'm not going to make them have to support excess weight while doing so.
But whether I take a vaccine or not, a vaccine, if it comes, will be very, very good news for those who have serious vulnerability due to other conditions and for many of those people, the risk of a rushed vaccine may well be worth it.
And, a vaccine will be very, very good news for our investment in IAG, even if it is rushed. It will have a huge effect on sentiment, and if it is widely available, many will take the opportunity, and they will then feel free to travel. Even if we have a rushed and imperfect vaccine, it will buy more time for new and better ones to be developed. So any moderately effective vaccine will be great news.
Spoon Key:- Mate, Vaccine will be approved by FDA. Also, they will not just approve any Vaccine. And remember, Every Drug has got side effect anyway. I am not saying everyone in the Uk will be given Vaccine. If they give vaccine to 1 third of the population then I the infection rate will go down massively. Also, Vaccine will be offered someone who has not infected by COVID 19 yet. They will may be start with health worker. However, when vaccine news will come whether it get effective or not each STOCK will pick up at least 50%.
The thing that scares the life out of me is the safety of this so called vaccine they are rushing through! They can bang on all they want about how tests are done with the safety of the patients in mind but they miss the vital point, time, it takes time to know the real outcome of any vaccine, just because it could help protect from getting covid doesn't mean it wont have effects they dont know about long term which is the real scarey part. They already think that catching covid is causing after effects for months if not years to come so what will this vaccine they are rushing through do if something is not detected due to it being "Rushed" I for one wont be taking any vaccine anytime soon.
Guys, Keep checking this all time. If you see more than 1 approval that means you have lost opportunities. So, my advice is do not sleep without buying STOCKS. It can happen anytime. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.amp.html
Apples mc is crazy but then again if people are stupid enough to pay over a thousand for a phone then what do you expect. Tesla is defo one interesting company, I've watched Elon Musk on Joe Rogan and hes an interesting individual to say the least. The thing with Telsa for me is that it seems to be jumping up far to quick to sustain such a movement but I dont mind being proved wrong. Anyway before I/we get told off for talking about another share on this board we'll leave it there. Interesting chat.
@Landy
"@Barcode you must be fun to talk to at the pub lol"
More fun to filter, I didn't even know he was still hanging around until you said that. It's really fun looking at the green box and saying, "Oh, cool, I thought it was messy or caitlin but it's Barking mad!"
Rule of thumb the leaders in a downturn tend to come out as the new world leaders post downturn...nothings stopping tesla, sure it well enter consolidation and have pullbacks but overall lot more to come...it has an mcap of 300bn, apple has an mcap of 1.7tn!
Apple has no significant advantage over competitors Samsung and Huawei...
As for tesla at the moment no one is even close in terms of EV batteries, they years behind...wouldnt be surprised one bit if tesla went onto be biggest company in the world!
