"A combination of Covid, demand for other care and staff shortages is undermining the NHS’s drive to tackle the huge backlog of people waiting hospital treatment, which stands at a record 5.61 million."
“Planned surgery is being disrupted in hospitals in some parts of the country, due to a mix of pressures hitting the NHS, and local infrastructure and staffing shortages,” said Prof Neil Mortensen, the president of the Royal College of Surgeons. “Hospitals need to make plans now, creating surgical hubs and increasing bed capacity, to avert widespread cancellations of operations.”

Staying Positive.. that's something of a challenge. I think I was holding these when Emma was probably still at Uni. Just disposing of some old paperwork and find I had a holding in a single company PEP- Personal Equity Plan(remember those) and SOLD in July 2001 (TWENTY YEARS AGO!!) at £20.25!! Been sinking slowly ever since.
There are two main risks in stock market investing, stock specific risk, where the SP is affected by company and sector news, and market risk, where the SP is affected by macroeconomic issues impacting the market in general. The lingering delta variant, inflationary pressures, supply shortages, not to mention central bank response to these, is front and centre at the moment, and markets are trending down as a consequence. If the Covid situation is worse than expected that may well impact GSK, and slow down the pace of getting the businesses back to normal. Jeffries indicated that Shingrix sales have slowed as a consequence of the delta variant, but their price target was still 1925p as the issues are likely to be temporary and they believe there is value to be released with the separation. We will get a better picture in October I guess. If GSK was a private business we’d all sleep better on account of not being tormented by Mr Market.

I made the fatal mistake to believe that GSK won't fall from 15 in the expectation of the slit.... I see now that not even the activist HF are immune to sharp SP falls. I wish I would have had you inspiration to sell half of the holding...
I loaded more on the fall (still bad timing as it fell further) and I agree with you the next crystallisation point will be at results. However the experience in the summer was painful so I am not sure what to expect.... Even good results are not immune from falls
I've been waiting for eons for it too, like watching paint dry!!! I should have cut my losses the other week, but thought it was on the up?!!! Will it ever be!
Most welcome, you put thought behind your posts.
tbf Poker's post looked well reasoned and concise,
even if you disagree with his conclusion.
Oh look Pokerchips with his masterful analysis of a a stock yet again. We aren't worthy oh great one !
fatprofits
nice one.. I think GSK will recover....but and am yet to decide when to buy by sold 50% back again
07 October 2021 - Q2 Dividend Payment
27 October 2021 - Q3 Results
I tend to use profits to have a go at any recovery stocks and I have just started into Infrastrata in anticipation of 2022 as its investments in infrastructure start to receive contracts....

This is my opinion/ observations DYR. Sometimes SP does not move at all with the fundamentals but with cash flow need or panic especially for SP with large exposure to US funds. I have see it on quite few SP.
I have to admit that I was expecting a 5% drop but not as much
Given that it will be no crystallisers for a coupe of months HF may not want to keep the cash still they go out and back in when they expect some news. GSK is treated different from AZN as its most value is in the turn around and split not in its intrinsic value.
Just my thoughts, however this is post rationalisation as I was taken by surprise as well. DYR
It’s hard to stay positive with GSK. The SP seems to go on a downward spiral when the ftse 100 is down but then fails to go back up in line when it goes up.
Astra and other pharma are similar but always tend to go back up in line with the ftse 100
I can’t understand this SP performance Over the past 4 weeks from the 15.25 high. On reading articles GSK and other sources have only published positive headlines yet it is still going down. I have tried to be patient with this share for the last 3 years but think I will cut my losses if it goes back up to the 14.50 mark
Just added some QQ, BAE, I'm hovering!.
BAE is not a get rich quick stock and being a UKX constituent
it's likely to take a hot on wider equity volatility, on say a 2 -3 year
basis risk reward looks reasonable.
TATE looks interesting fwiw, barring something untoward.
This has retraced right back to where it was before the Q2 results came out ... and they were then well received...
The general consensus was for flat earnings this year with the idea that H2 would be better ...but..I think it depends on how the Shingrix shingles vaccine has managed to perform , and whether that has recovered its momentum ....maybe the problems with the Delta variant has caused further problems within the healthcare sector
Consumer Healthcare revenues seem to be a bit flat and maybe the idea is that China is slowing down is hitting consensus on that
Contribution from COVID solutions should be starting to be beneficial as time moves on...
"Jefferies said the much-need boost from US prescriptions of shingles vaccine Shingrix is yet to materialise, and as such its team of number crunchers had taken out the red pen. As a result, its third-quarter sales forecast is 11% below consensus. "

Personally I am not thinking at all about the split at the moment ....simply because it isn't due to happen until into 2022 and I doubt the market is focusing on that, at present
Fat, on BAE I am in 2 minds, you may need to look into 5 years trend: it is enough mid term volatility, BUT long term is flat. You may want to consider some threshold corridors. Just a thought
Frankly I haven't expected GSK to fall, lesson learned, not even the activist hedge funds are immune to falls
How does S4 command that multiple?,
completely missed that one and well done to
those you saw it early.
I bought a few WPP today! and some GSK,
up to about 60% of my holding here now,
but only buying on the basis of the 2022 split,
without that doubt I would touch it.
BAE I am beginning to like, anyone like IGG or
think it may be worth a look?.
Hi me matey, I’ve been at the rum and nearly fell overboard because of the way the sp has been behaving. Rough seas. I’ve been concentrating on volex, S4 capital and recently Darktrace first two have been good . Dark is a definite for the near future . Still hoping Abcam takes a drop at some stage as I’m now certain they will be taken over by one of the big guys. How are you doing .
Hi Ya where have you been missed the comments ??
Not till the split I suspect. :-(. I need a get out of jail card. Will just have to wait . At least I’ve been getting the divs . Must be great to have a job where you get an excellent salary and get paid again on top of it and get a massive payoff when you leave. Hope your well Denby69 and making a bit. Or a lot.:-).
I do hope so :-)
Lots of 'reverse psychology' chatter going on here folks - hold steady - do not sell - this share will springboard from here shortly....
