Dream on....
Thanks Mary, It could well be a case of no smoke without fire. They were on my list to top up my weighting in any case, and at £ 2.95, still represent good value.
I suspect that the price spike is either a leaked approach or maybe an activist investor looking to stoke things up and release value to long suffering shareholders.
If it is an approach, then possibly an announcement later on tomorrow (Fri) afternoon or more likely a leak to the sunday papers /Sky business over the weekend and an announcement pre-market monday.
I just wonder if it is someone like Aviva looking to invest their overseas sales monies on more UK assets (which they've indicated they want to focus on) ?
As to price then yes, £ 4.00 would be a round figure to aim for. If a bidder wanted to smoke out and fight with others then an opening shot at perhaps £ 3.80, but if they wanted a knock out agreed bid first off, then it would need to be more £ 4.25 - £ 4.50 territory.
Just my opinion and if by some fluke, it comes to fruition, I'll submit my £ 1m invoice for banker fees to DLG asap!
Volume up nicely last 2 days - normally 3-4 m traded.

nice find fellow blade :)
The close will be telling here, it there is a FOMO rally this it hang on tight, if not then back to 280s again.
Happens when someone gets a whiff and then at some point the news will be come to the main market. May be a rumour, may be nothing, back to 292 and now moving up again.
I trimmed 10% at 312 but this is looking interesting for the 3rd quarter update on Nov 9th.
I really do not want a bid here as this is a great dividend income earner for me.
Heading back up.
Lol, jumped in during the auction with FOMO. Broker added me at 308.
Now averaged at 299 and gone from a profit to a loss. You can't win them all.
But I think there's no smoke without fire. Clearly there was a major spike for some reason at 13:59
I'm going to hold and see the day out.
Back into the red LOL.
Well as soon as she rose she dropped. I'm seeing £2.957 on the BID now.
Very odd.
I have no idea why the sudden rise, it did look cheap to me when I bought in at £2.9725, then it dropped for no good reason that I could see.
Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining. Just confused.
** A sudden spike in Direct Line shares fuels vague
chatter among traders of a potential takeover move for the UK
insurance company
** Deals website Betaville denies talk it has published any
report on Direct Line, and adds: "However, one assumes if there
is anything going on from an M&A perspective then some sort of
announcement is imminent."
** By 1344 GMT, Direct Line up 6.6% after surging as much as
13.4% earlier. Volumes so far 2.4 times 90-day average

Another one of my shares delivered some stonking results and is down. No news on this steady-eddie and it smashes 10% up ( for a while). Can someone explain the stock market again?
What good is that you know it would be above this level before x-div, so you can sit back and see if there’s some news without selling into the rise.
Ive held in a SIPP for years. Just took a punt on some CFD's incase something is a foot. Gla
