MRIs, scanners, radiotherapy equipment, beds, wards, nursing paramedic and medical training for homegrown staff. All examples of investments that would improve the NHS irrespective of the IT system (which I believe works better these days).Spending on properly paid domiciliary social care staff to allow elderly patients to leave hospital. We live in an ageing society and NHS and social spending has got to rise further, even with efficiency gains.
Perhaps there will be an RNS in the morning after all and we can get back to talking about CASP!
Gordon Brown spent $20bn on an IT system for the NHS that didn't work. The government need to build at whatever coat a parallel IT system that can at some point be switched over to...until the IT can stand up to the volume investment elsewhere is futile IMO
I thought you guys were just being really complimentary about UK universities (public sector) and defence (public sector) a few posts ago.If you want to see how private sector healthcare works, look at the USA with very similar health outcomes to the UK but spending over 50% more as a percentage of GDP. As I said earlier, the NHS scores best on value for money. Of course more efficiency could be squeezed out of the system, but investment would be needed. What we need is more spending on staff and equipment. The link below dates back to 2015 but shows the main picture clearly

I've stopped 2019 because the pandemic distorts comparisons and all health systems across the world are in varying degrees of crisis.
Mr C, I go along with a lot of that, same as most public funded bodies. Shoite leadership , Unions and not a clue how to run a business efficiently.
unc - the NHS is not underfunded it is just appallingly badly run with very poor and de-centralised buying strategies. This is not necessarily my words but those of a head of a major department of the Royal Berkshire Hospital ! The NHS cant be fixed by pilling in more cash, the NHS can be fixed by good leadership only.
McQueen - I was not suggesting we were a carpy little country and agree with everything you said there, but what we need to get rid of is the old crustys of the former Empire and specifically the way these people think. Yes we have the best quality military albeit small (I once was part of it) and yest we have some of the best universities so we can educate foreigners to help them hate us more - LoL !
JS,
Not much to say. I actually can't believe what's happened or what hasn't happened. All the work to sort the structure, KO clan having last feed at the trough with the swap and no news as expected ? The way we're going, a 0.15p initial divi will yield over 20% ! Maybe they want that outcome as obviously the sp would drop with a news embargo. FUBAR is an understatement.
uncertain, plenty of time yet today or tomorrow for the perfunctory voting RNS to drop - academic though that may be with the KO CP holdings.
But what a c0ck-up!
Fancy announcing the AGM before the FR would be available, and then not rescheduling it to meet the delay and having to organise a second. Anyone would think they were scared of the SP dropping in the event they had to do announce a change...
It's not just the drilling that's fubar here!
Anyone know?- How large is the drilling workforce?
Can they manage 24/7 operational drilling at more than one location?

Un,
141 due 2 months ago ? either a **** up or withholding news until divi declaration maybe ? The lower the share price the more attractive the divi yield ? I really did believe that the CE deal was close and hence the bullishness re divi statements. SP was primed to break out of the 5p range and all they had to do was to issue 141 and divi declaration news but no, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and even i'm getting fed up of them scoring own goals.
As you say, they have to publish news in interims but that's not good enough and i suspect news is not too far away.
Since we have had no RNS today to accompany the meeting I am assuming we will just have to wait until September/October when they have to get in touch with us anyway. Until then the sp will probably drift even though we know the cash is piling up and a divi is affordable. Very frustrating but nothing we can do about it.
PS Apologies Somm. I was just replying out of politeness. I was expecting to have to apologise at some point so I'm quite glad to have it out of the way!

Go on twatter if you want to chat about your lives or get a room.........geez!
Don't reply.
I am fairly widely travelled. I have not been to Russia or China, although in the 90s I did teach some Russians over here to gain experience on the stock exchange, and also some Chinese civil servants at regional level. I also taught Real Estate students in Poland. I have been to the USA and Canada several times and have travelled widely in the Middle East, the sub-continent and South East Asia.
Presumably you are asking me this question to find out if I have any direct experience of the things I am talking about. Could I politely ask you what your corresponding experience might be?
Oh and also the phrase "our Commonwealth" is a tad colonial. If it is to be a Common Wealth it needs to belong equally to all its participating nations and not just to the UK. This is the only basis on which it is likely to remain viable in the longer term, a good transition point coming when King Charlie takes over. Well you can hope!
I appreciate your pride in our nation McQueen, and share much of it, but some realism is also needed. There are a couple of misleading comments mixed in with the good points. We are not the 5th richest nation on earth, but only the 5th largest. We actually come about 25th in per capita income measured at purchasing power parity. This one is a commonly fallacy repeated by politicians of all colours and the media so that many people have come to believe it.
The pride in the NHS is also one I share but unfortunately underfunding over many years has left us with health outcomes which are substantially worse than many European nations. It still tends to come high on the value for money criterion.
The decline of manufacturing is another problem that needs to be reversed. Our persistent Balance of Payments deficit over decades has been funded by the sale of our economy to foreign firms and sometimes foreign governments (e.g. Norway, Saudi, EDF) which makes us vulnerable. The successful Finance industry has facilitated this development.
Nationalism is a fine sentiment but it needs to be tempered by realism. A domestic green industrial revolution would be a good partial solution to some of these problems.
I doubt if anyone attended the meeting today but could've been a great opp to have a 1:1 with Clive !
Really poor effort on the comms front and lost a real opportunity to build on the pre AGM momentum. Peeps were expecting shallow effort to continue with anger and push on to 8kbopd or more but an about turn and a manageable £5k the target figure. 141 news 2 months delayed, the Divi declaration the same and the deeps were meant to be on the back burner but not the case. Poor comms = poor sentiment = selling. Sp is disconnected from fundamental value but that's irrelevant if PIs or new players are buying into the story.
Clive, time to change that inconsistent tune that you've been playing for sooo long now, we deserve far better !
Shivest the other deaths do count....it depends on who’s propaganda you want to believe on the Owens incident. As it has been said the first victim of war is Truth
"Nostalgia for Empire is not entirely absent from UK politics either!" -- I honestly think this holds back the UK. I think we should forget old empire and just move on as a smallish albeit hopefully productive little country.
Reparations opened the door to extreme ideology and Hitler walked through it ...kick a man when he's down and if he does get up to break your nose his son or grandson will do it for him. Ukraine has assured it's status as an independent state...time for a deal to save lives though in the east IMO
Indeed. Do we expect an RNS intraday or tomorrow morning? If so will there be an operational update with it
Well said McQueen, people forget our country was governed by a man worse than Putin from 1997-2007. Not that I'm saying Putin hasn't done terrible things in 2022, but those in glass houses.
Belles, the Jesse Owens thing was refuted by Owens himself, and it wasn't just the Jews either, people act as if the other 5 million don't count for some reason!
McQ....so the persecution of Jews through the 1930/40s The Final Solution, and Hitlers walking out of the Jessie Owens Olympics because Owens was black was all down to the Armistice of 1918? Not because Hitler was a deranged megalomaniac, interesting.
The longer the war continues, the weaker Putin will become. The casualties are mounting and what will another 6 months for his PR. Europe are well on the path to weaning themselves off Russian energy and countries like Kaz looking to do the same ie less dependency on bi-lateral relationships, replacing it with their multi-vector strategy.
Meanwhile, Russia can still survive economically by selling to China, India, Pokisran, Turkey ,getting paid in Roubles etc but they are isolating themselves from most of the world. I’m all for compounding that isolation, no travel freedoms, harsh economic sanctions etc to make it a Pariah state. The annexation of Ukraine could be just the start to imperial ambitions but if we continue to sanction, limit freedom of movement, unrest will follow and hopefully a regime change that doesn’t involve another despot.
The fact is that Russians rig elections and that many people boycott their referendums. The referendums in any case take place after many of the population have fled. The war in the Donbas was Russian sponsored and the Wagner group were heavily involved. It is all about the Czar Putin who thinks of himself as the new Peter the Great.
Back to Casper.
I am really disappointed with the follow through comms since AGM. Clive must be very detached from proceedings in Kaz . To state that 141 result was imminent over 2 months ago and that divis would be declared in July ?? the barge was close to a deal etc. All poor comms and you could say it’s fibs/lies but I was really hoping that a new leaf was being turned.
Meanwhile crude bounces around in the $90s waiting for the next supply/demand stats and future direction. Casper will continue to fill the coffers but unfortunately insignificant PIs remain in mushroom mode and wait for the next feed.
McQ,
I know the history but if you think that Putin’s invasion is justified ?? as a result of no referendum in Crimea !! Russia gave Ukraine up as it did with many others as long as they signed up to the NPT. A war of this magnitude in Europe today is unforgivable, weaponising energy, threatening the world. If you think that Russia is justified on doing this, you’re in a very small minority !!
