In terms of proteins and response to covid most molecules involved are proteins.
Avacta have been working on a test to measure CRP and a bank of others in sepsis.
Troponin is released following a heart attack. You can measure its levels.
IL1 levels are being targeted by Swedish Orphan.
Might be a bit unspecific but as a screening tool......
Anyone know how long exclusivity was agreed for?
mstar: as you say, expect Medusa19 to expand their offering with other medical products as confirmed on their "About" web page
"Longer-term, the Group’s objective is to entrench itself within the global medical supply chain, serving businesses and consumers worldwide with a range of tests and solutions that identify a variety of conditions, supporting health, well-being and business continuity throughout the globe."
Thanks Chiron. Now I understand why you said we could relax. I think we can also relax if Medusa19 is selling product from other suppliers. To build an effective distribution network around the world will be very expensive. That could not be justified with a limited product range. I would expect them to extend to other tests, Then maybe medicines and and other healthcare products.
Hi mstar, IMDEA collaborated with Carlos III Health Institute (Spanish acronym: ISCIII) to trail the test. I understand it's confusing (genuinely not meant to be condescending) as most doctors wouldn't get the fine details.
Best of luck

Thanks Chiron. I am pleased we have a qualified professional on the board. I acknowledge that an antibody test is not in competition with the Avacta test. But what makes you think this is the Spanish test? It says it’s a saliva protein test. And if it’s an IgG test does IgG transfer to saliva?
Mstar I've been in clinical and academic medicine for over 16 years and consult for equity firms on a wide range of medical and surgical devices.
I do my own due diligence on novel devices.
I have 3 post graduate degrees in this space.
Including a PhD from Imperial college in this space.
In my (well researched) opinion this novel Spanish test there is no competition. There are other players in this market that you may or may not know of (Israel and USA) I am still confident Avacta has the best offering.
Humbly, all the best,
Chiron
The text does not say that the second test is an antibody test. Antibodies build up slowly after infection. It says it is both a protein test and an immune response test. I know of no immune response to covid-19 which is a protein. I would also expect the Avacta test to have a specificity higher than 95%. If someone without the covid-19 infection showed up positive would require an explanation.
I would expect Medusa19 to market a range of tests which could be sold directly to consumers and others via its website. This would be a good business of which covid-19 would just be a part. Avacta’s diagnostics division could create many of these tests.
Unfortunately selling “whatever crap they like “ irrespective of its efficacy won’t hold Avacta’s products in a good light by such association. Tying themselves to Medusa was not a smart move and did seem somewhat rushed at the time .
They can sell whatever crap they want they aren't contractually obliged only to supply avacta tests.
Probably be selling boohoo face masks too
They’re an independent company and can sell whatever they want, starting with tests of no practical use
New test from Spain looking at IgG (antibody).
No where near as useful as Avacta offering for many reasons but foremost IgG isn't immediately released hence lag between infection and mounting a clinically detectable response. Median seroconversion period c.10 days from infection. Also not all mount an Ig response but T cell mediated. Sorry for technical blurb but basically it's of no practical use.
Main concern is why our 'partner' is flogging other tests!
Anyway, as always GLA.
