Haha, well, to be fair, you literally didn’t know what day of the week it was. I was imagining you sat in your care home with a dribble of soup down your chin screaming IT IS US at the carers. Good effort all things considered, I was worried when you said you were driving :-D
Laughed at that myself scardey, I thought I was going senile you got me thinking it was Tuesday haha
PL: In all modesty, I'll say that it feels quite good knowing you can hold your own in a conversation about viral loads and ct values, with the Chief Development Officer of Medusa19.
By the way, my girlfriend couldn't stop laughing at your comment yesterday..."I’m not sure sending someone that’s clearly senile over there is a good idea. Is anyone else free?". Have to say, it cracked me up too on reading it later in the day.
If that was who you were talking to, then there’s no wonder you got plenty wry smiles and laughs. He’ll have known everything you were talking about. Good stuff lads. Now find out where he lives and root through his bins just in case he’s been using some at home :-)
Thanks Scaredy.
I’m gutted I didn’t see that earlier, was literally in a meeting 30 mins down the road earlier in the day. Would have loved to have joined you and Robbo on the reconnaissance mission:)
The Medusa agreement with Avacta prevents them from selling other antigen tests. So yes it is us!

Great post scaredy
Here's a picture of Christian Stephenson/Medusa19 at a similar rapid test study in Wilmslow in January this year – 3 miles down the road from yesterday's venue, Alderley Park. 2nd picture down, 3rd in from the left.
https://www.knutsfordguardian.co.uk/news/19019755.wilmslow-children-take-part-covid-19-rapid-test-study/
The Wilmslow study was in reference to the Medusa19 RSPT test. Note: they did follow up with PCR test in the Wilmslow study, so we might expect PCR follow up from yesterday’s study, adding to the S&S profile.
I think we can now call it. Medusa19's Chief Development Officer, Christian Stephenson, was at the Glasshouse, Alderley Park yesterday, overseeing the study of a test that originated ‘somewhere in Cambridgeshire’. In my view, the Avacta test was the subject of this study.
Why:
- The study was headlined “New Covid-19 ANTIGEN Test Usability Study – Help test the usability of a NEW, NON-INTRUSIVE, Covid-19 Nasal Test”. From what we know about the Medusa19/Avacta agreement, we have to deduce this couldn’t be any other rapid antigen test
- The test originated from ‘somewhere in Cambridgeshire’.
- The Wilmslow study didn’t take place in secret, the test was identified in a local newspaper article, whereas, the Alderley Park study yesterday was fully blind and CS was very keen to be keep it under wraps.
Takeaways:
- Christian Stephenson was ‘broad grinned’ pleased with the results of the usability study…so we can expect top marks for Avacta’s usability score.
- CS said “I wish we had more tests guys, we need the numbers”, implying a measure of urgency associated with the study
- The study appeared to employ a self-swab method of sample collection
- At high viral loads the test gives an obvious / distinct positive line ‘fairly quickly’ (CS words)
- Medusa19 took the trouble to send a senior company officer down to oversee this study, indicating seriousness of purpose/intent. CS stated in the BBC Northwest interview “We’re up to a supply chain of 100 mil tests per month” – surely this cannot all be for the RSPT test (antibody test)
It’s happening guys.
Timster, it was us, it is us and it will be us.
Big shout out to Poirot for first spotting this study yesterday afternoon. Just give us a bit more notice next time Pal :-)
Enjoyed this excursion yesterday, well done to you both. Let's keep an eye on that LinkedIn account in case anymore test usability days turn up. Hopefully we'll have the news were all waiting for and there won't be a need but no harm keeping an eyeball or two on it.
Wrong thread.... oops
I don't mean to come across patronising here but you do realise Alistair will have done his due diligence on financials at the very start and continued reassessing throughout. If he thought this wasn't financially viable he would have had pulled the pin.
Sorry Simon, but you need to try harder and if you're invested here (which I highly doubt), you need to cash out today as you clearly don't believe in it. Unfortunately, your wee post on the LSE chat board won't affect the SP, so you're attempt is in vain
Great work guys!!
Not sure if this has any relevance, but I noticed that Hughes and Kamani appear to have lumped some money into Medusa 19 Healthcare Ltd in April, as evidenced by these charges registered at companies house;
https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/13014718/filing-history
Medusa 19 Healthcare Ltd is recorded as being a medical manufacturer.
This follows a similar capital injection they made to our Partner, Medusa 19 Ltd back in Feb.
Thanks for the confirmation Robbo mate. Nice to know my senility hasn't progressed too far yet :-)
Sorry guys I was in bed as early start! I can indeed confirm it was 1000% that guy he went looking for tests for us!
Yeah well done scardey and robbo, I only caught up later but looked entertaining
Ear Ear .
Just a quick thanks to yesterday’s quick reaction force our very own dynamic duo.
Thanks for going and thanks for sharing.

Mid to late 30's Cautious. Could be wrong. Will wait for Robbo.
I started going grey in my late 20's, so kind of warped my judgement age wise :-)
If so, I’m sure he’d be delighted to know he presents as a man in his 30s!
Same quietly spoken voice, kind of a shy reticence. Feck me, should have took him for a pint.
Let's see what Robbo says.
Would be good news if it was Scardey and Robbo

Calling on Robbo!
Was this the guy we spoke to today? Christian Stephenson - Chief Development Officer Medusa19.
I think it was, but I won't call it until you confirm (because I don't want to make a twat of myself).

I was going to say holding it at a business park for walk-ins, you’re likely to get more-intelligent-than-average people dropping in and assessing usability, which would be mildly cheeky... but if it’s linked to a vaccination centre you’ll probably get a pretty fair cross section of the population (in a certain age band, just over 40 at the mo).
As well as usability, getting large numbers to do this would likely at least start to feed a refinement/minimum estimate on the specificity, even better if they are able to collect follow up data on PCR confirmations from those testing positive.
One last point, as don't want to bore the pants off...which I'm sure I've done already :-)
As I said earlier, the guy said to us both, "I wish I did have more tests, we need the numbers"...therein lies a clue?
*Didsbury
So, to answer your question, I think they would have been confident of numbers turning up, since I think they had a ready feed from vacc centre. So, does point to usability on balance, but the jury's out as they say.
I did wonder if some of the people had been directed there from the vaccination centre. It would have been easy for the vacc people to just ask attendees if they wanted to take part in a study. In fact, thinking back he did ask me "have you come from bla, bla", but I didn't properley hear what he'd said. I said "No, I've just come from Didsbuty". And, I actually rocked up first at the vacc centre, where a lady in yellow jacket directed me to the study building (so, vacc lady knew about the study).
