Re: Dubai MOU
At the AGM in April Adam Bond stated that "there was still interest" from the Middle East, however, as has been alluded to, it is highly unlikely at this stage that AFC will crystallise any previous MOU's for large stationary power fuel cells projects. However, the Middle East may well be interested in EV Chargers or the forthcoming off grid back up generators. If the Southern Oil plant re-design confirms the amount of hydrogen available, then there could be a 200kw-400kw system signed for in 2020 which could then act as the demonstration plant for other chemical plants to analyse before placing an order. So probably another 2-3 years I would think before other orders for large stationary projects. By this time there may also be more pressure on oil/petro chemical/ chlorine-alkali plants to go greener.
Based on what we saw the other day the volumes concerned are so low as to be not worthwhile.
Just sell the demineralised water, it's worth £2 per liter including VAT.
See UK prices at The Distilled Water Company
www.thedistilledwatercompany.com/buy-demineralised-deionised
The water coming out of a fuel cell is very pure, much more so than spring water, to the extent it would need to be mineralised before you could drink it.
Risky, are you on the Forum? If so ask Chippyjo to pass you my e-mail address and we can discuss further.
Southerhay, that is not quite what I was talking about, I was referring to the large industrial systems. It might be possible if they could work in a similar way to an ev charger, I.e. continuous charge to a battery pack, though solar might have a larger role to play. I think there was a hint that the business model might evolve over time.
Bumble You maybe right. Perhaps they have gone and to be fair an MOU is no commitment/sale until it crystallises. I hope the EV market is the winner then. The reason why I invested in AFC a few years back was because water was a by product and thought in countries where water is incredibly scarce it was a double winner. A bottle of Evian is more expensive than petrol (bad word on this board I know) I know AFC would not produce the same quality of water as that which has come from the springs underground etc and I could not imagine AFC water beingwheeled out on Centre Court and be the natural choice for tennis champions but I thought it could be good for agriculture etc
Agreed Southerhay. Would be a shame if another compant came and stole that business
Bond did state that those industrial opportunities may be taken up in future, but for now it is ev vehicles where their focus lies. A lot of time has passed since those MOUs were signed, I doubt they are still waiting for AFC to deliver.
Interesting Bumble I accept things evolve as that is what happens over time. It would be a shame to lose those possibilities. I know we can't be all things to all men but surely an arm of AFC is working on them otherwise they will be lost in the midst of time along with a huge amount of revenue.
I still think there’s a massive market for supplying power to aircon units abroad. Think of all this sky scrapers in the Middle East or Australia which much take a massive demand on grid/local networks. Imagine if the power to supply aircon units was supplied by AFCs ! Enormous market market!
There is an irony that five years ago the most lucrative contracts were abroad, in South Korea for instance, and the Middle East. It seems the rise of the electric vehicle has now provided a lucrative market in the UK which is much more convenient, after which there may be similar opportunities abroad. Funny how things evolve!
BB
I would agree, I cannot see those MOUs happening Risky. We may well see those sorts of contracts happen in the future but for the moment ev charging seems to be the easiest step into the market. As that gets established other products will be sold for other uses as the products are developed, such as off-grid generators.
risky, i think its a totally different business now and none of them will still be valid.
MOUs. Of all of these MOUs from the dim and distant past which one are we hoping comes off. I have Dubai Carbon in my mind as the big fish.
The quantity and quality of research on the board in the last few days is exceptional, keep it up folks! On Friday the AFC management team said several times that the “people out there” will think of numerous ways of using the technology and they are ready and willing to supply them as necessary. I’m sure we’ll see RNS in the next few years that we simply can’t imagine right now.
