(ShareCast News) - Shire has received a takeover approach from Japan's Takeda Pharmaceutical, according to reports on Thursday. The Japanese company, which has a smaller market value than its British rival, made an "indicative takeover proposal" at close to $46.50 pounds a share, Reuters reported, citing two sources. Takeda said in March that it was considering a bid for Dublin-headquartered Shire.
True or not...whoever started the rumour could have made a killing - now down to low 39s, absolutely no idea where it go Les next, but glad I didnt short at 37.50 though! :-) Just cant get my head round how they can offer such a value, massively higher value than the whole of their company! Until I see it I cant believe it. Scfc
scfc, like you, I don't really believe it as it just doesn't stack. 40 seemed a stretch for Takeda but 46.50???
Just hit 40
Amazing if true
Latest rumour is offer around 46.50, cash & equity. Don't shoot the messenger.
Morning. I would be very surprised if Takeda can now afford this based on the current SP, especially if a decent premium on top would be sought by the BOD and major shareholders. Im equally surprised at this rise today - is it based on pure speculation of a Takeda bid alone? - I cant see it personally - or does the market know something else, lets see. Only a few days to find out. ATB, Scfc
Was about to do a small day trade when price started leaping around and hit 38.90 ish. Something is up. Bouncing around 38 -39.
...
Very true! If this calm tips sp over 40 i might sell and move on
Not a lot to talk about today. Calm before the storm.
So silent boys n gals? Stock is up a percent or so, and the sunshine is a cherry on the cake today :-)) dont make me think you are all shorters :-/
Possibly, I felt uncomfortably long heavy again hence taken a small short hedge. Im. Thinking of evening at 40ish should i sp get there soonish.
38.14 closing price after conversion should be an interesting day tomorrow!
Yep, in the short-term I would also prefer to be short than long at an SP of £37.50+ esp based on what we actually know...but in this offer period it is quite easy to make a large amount or equally get one’s fingers burned! ATB, Scfc
thx Scfc Feels like a green open tomorrow:-)
£37.54, bit of a sell off but not significant. Scfc
Closing price pls someone Thx
Ill be taking little short before deys end. How much could it be wrong we will find out soon enough. Viva Texas, viva rodeo
Well, £37.78...a trap for all those getting carried away on the afternoon surge or a genuine (M&A) reason for the big rise today? My guess is the former... ATB, Scfc
Looking at the candlesticks it is apparent there is a lot of guesswork going on.
I absolutely agree that this is likely to be speculation driven rather than fact/“leaked info”...but the old adage buy on the rumour sell on the fact I guess. You pays your money but personally I’d be certainly be cashing in at c£37.50+ today as a day trader. ATB, Scfc
But like you and i said earlier. This small gain may be due to the likelihood of a new bidder emerging
That is a good question Scfc. Takeda will struggle to line up the funds to buy Shp. Huge share issue and mega borrowing may be
