Leading

Definition of 'Leading'

A technique used by a firm to change the pattern of international payments in order to manage its foreign currency exposure.

For example, if an importer fears a devaluation of its home countrys currency, the importer would accelerate, or lead, payments; otherwise his foreign obligations would be greater after the devaluation.
